Publish personnal documents to users using mysite or an other way.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello all, I am required to find a way to create a self service site for each employee in my company where each one would have his section where we can publish to them, personnalized documents like their own benefitits and salary, bonus etc. I first tought that mysites was the perfect feature I wanted but it seems it's not possible to batch publish custom personnalised documents in private sections of my sites. Also, it seems that a user must connect at least one time to create his site. What would be the best way to achieve my goals? Thank you.

The impossibility of doing things depends on your will to do it.

limitate user permission to edit other users documents

i have a list where everybody uploads documents, but i want that only the user that uploaded the document can edit it or delete it, is there a simple way without workflows or code? thanks!

force document 'save as' for visitor users for all documents.

hello we are using foundation as the basis for a customer extranet, one of the 'features' of sharepoint seems to be the inconsistancy of how it handles office and non-office documents. for pdf's the user is prompted for save as. For word docs if the (remote Ad authenticated )user has word this opens the document for the site and reprompts for credentials, i usderstand why this is happening as they are opening the document on different network. the question is can i force 'save as' for word and excel documents in the manner of pdfs for visitor level users. Thanks Mark

Publish Office 2007 documents with metadata to SharePoint 2010?

Hi. I have SharePoint 2010 Enterprise based Intranet solution. We are publishing office 2007 documents to various document libraries there. When uploading documents normally to the document library, I can enter managed metadata to the documents which are later sorted and filtered by this metadata. But how can I enter metadata at the point where I'm publishing the document(Publish->Document Management Server)? I can get the document management pane to show my metadata -column in word as a textbox after the document is published, but the textbox is colored grey and says that I should modify that data on the server i.e. from sharepoint.

How to place security on a document library such that users only see documents they created?

When using lists, it is easy to specify that users can only see lists that they created (through Advanced Settings)... Is there a similar way to do this with document libraries? Rather than doing item level security... Thanks.

How to prevent users from pasting HTML code in choice list (MySite)

Hi all,

I want to prevent users from pasting HTML code in a (new) choice list option (on the MySite). Is there any way to accomplish that?

Thanks!

Suddenly, documents are read-only for some users

In our SharePoint 2007 farm, some of our users are suddenly not able to modify Microsoft Office documents. This is NOT a permissions issue - the users clearly have write access to the folders involved.  When they open Office documents, they open read-only.  When they try to save Office documents, they get this error: "Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server."

The problem began around February 21 2010 when we installed the latest Windows updates on client PCs. (We are guessing the updates may have triggered the problem.) Out of 1000 users, only 10-12 have this problem, but it seems to be growing slowly (new cases every few days).

It seems like non-MS-Office documents (say, .txt files) are not affected. They are writable.

The users are running a variety of Windows versions and IE versions. They all have Office 2007, and they all used to be able to write Office documents in SharePoint.

Anybody else experiencing this? Any clues appreciated!

Show ALL documents in search result, but only allow users with proper permissions to open

I am trying to set up a site with multiple document libraries with permissions for different groups of users. When users search for a document, I want them to be able to see ALL documents that match the criteria, even if they do not have permission to view the library, however, they should not be able to open the documents for which they dont have read permissions.

Please advise on how to set this up

Thanks

How to publish all the draft documents in SharePoint site Collection

Hello,

I have filtered all the draft documents using the “All Draft Documents” view in our site collection. It gives me a good list of draft documents in site collection.

Unfortunately, I’ am not able to publish all Draft documents at one shot as the “Approve” option is greyed out.

Is there any way to approve all the documents at one time instead of one at a time?

MS SQL Server: Disconnect Users From Database - Kill User Session

If you ever wanted to restore your database from a SQL backup file (.bak), but there are still users connected to your database, the backup operation will fail causing the error: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.

Enabling Users to Maintain SharePoint Content

When SharePoint is installed as a corporate intranet, there is a considerable amount of effort involved in maintaining the content to keep the site relevant. As we discussed in the first few parts of this series, SharePoint has many built-in features to reduce the burden on the site administrator.

Some areas of the site usually contain less-dynamic information. Internal memos and corporate policies are common examples of this information. One option for this information is to post these documents in a document library. Documents in a library are often stored in a few different formats: Word, Acrobat (PDF), or HTML. Each of these formats has its drawbacks.

Web Service for uploading documents into SharePoint

WS UploadService is a web service written for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and is meant for uploading documents into SharePoint. I have just uploaded the zip file to GotDotNet.com so it will take some time before the zip file appears in the list of downloads. For the time being, you can download the zip file from the following location

Need help redirecting users to personalized page

Hi, first timer here so be gentle.

I've been able to create a cool little website, it's up and running with users logging in and out, I created roles so my administrative team can see sensitive data that's not available to regular and anonymous users.

Now they would like me to create a page specific to each user.  For instance when user A logs in they are redirected to a page that has information that pertains to user A only (like a list of their benefits/ their remaining vacation time). This page needs to be accessible only to user A.

I've watched a ton of the videos but have yet to see one that covers this topic, any help would be great!!!

Thanks
