"Document not Saved" in Excel 2007 - using Windows XP Pro and Office 2007 Pro

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 09, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hello folks,   I am having an issue with all of my Excel documents saving from the network drive.  Whether I open the document then "save as" 97- 2003 or just do a straight "save" it will always come up as "Document not saved".  I open some Word files and get a different error, "There has been a network or file permission error.  The network connection may be lost (the drive contents here)"  Now I am online and can do emails and open other documents from the network so I know my network connection is not lost.  I work right off the LAN and not wireless.   I did take the file in both Excel and Word and copy them to the local drive then try the open / save as and it will work great like that no problem.  Although this is a "work around" is there something I am missing?  Our corporation has many new machines running Windows XP Pro along with Office 2007 Pro and this was the first I had seen this problem with.  This is a laptop, but again others work fine ( that I know of)   Thanks, Mark

Sharepoint 2003 + Windows Terminal Server 2008 + Office 2007 problem?

Hi, We have a customer where some users runs Windows Terminal Server 2008 with Office 2007. They open documents from a Sharepoint 2003 site. When they open an excel sheet they get a button in the document which says "Server workbook: Click edit workbook to edit this workbook" and there is a button: "edit workbook" The users clicks "edit workbook" but get an error message saying there is no connection to the server.  They are able to edit the document, but not save it back to the sharepoint site. Most other users work on their local computer with Office 2003. Here, everything works fine and there are no button/message stating its a server workbook.   Is this caused due to some compatability issues between Sharepoint 2003 and Office 2007?   Best regards, Thomas Hansen ErgoGroup AS

Document is read-only in SharePoint, but user sees "check out" option in Office 2007 / Word / Excel

I am finding that when there is a document library in SharePoint with checkin/checkout required, if a user with read-only ("Visitor") permissions opens a document from that library, the document will open as read-only in Word, Excel, etc., but the user will see the "Server Document" bar with the message "To modify this document, you must check it out" and the "check out" button.  When the user tries to check the document out, they are asked to authenticate, and then receive the error "Cannot perform this operation.  The file has been deleted or someone else has it checked out."    How is it possible to prevent a user with read-only rights in SharePoint from seeing the "Check out" option in Word or Excel?

Windows 7, Office 2007, and WSS 3.0: Losing file path when saving to Document Library.

A client of ours recently purchased 5 desktops with Windows 7 and Office 2007.  They use Sharepoint to share all documents for their company. The computers that have Windows XP on them can browse the Sharepoint site, open documents (read only or edit), and chose to Save or Save As.  A new window pops open with their current file path of the Sharepoint Document Library so they can save the file in the same folder they opened it from.  I have tested this with Office 2003 and 2007 (Word and Excel) on XP and it always works. The 5 new desktops running Windows 7 cannot do this.  When a user opens a document by browsing to it from Internet Explorer and chooses to Save or Save As, they are kicked back to their last successful save point (usually My Documents or Desktop). The current work around is mapping a drive to the root Document Library directory and having them traverse through the folders to save it back in the original location. I've tried changing the Check Out save settings in Word 2007 and Excel 2007 to edit directly on the server, but I run into the same problem.  I've also made sure that IE sees the site as a Local Intranet site and Protected Mode is off. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

While Importing Excel 2007 file to Datatable - headerrow problem

Hi there,

I am trying to simply extract an excel data from an uploaded file an put it into a datatable. In this case the excel file has 3 rows but when I fill the datatable I only see row count of 2.

I tried changing HDR:NO; to HDR:YES and vice versa, but no luck.

What am I doing wrong? (Note: the excel file cannot have a  headerrow)

string connstr = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + pFilePath + ";Extended Properties=\"Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR:NO;\"";
            OleDbConnection conn = new OleDbConnection(connstr);
            conn.Open();
            DataTable dtTables = conn.GetOleDbSchemaTable(System.Data.OleDb.OleDbSchemaGuid.Tables, null);
            string strTablename = dtTables.Rows[0]["TABLE_NAME"].ToString();
            string strSQL = "SELECT * FROM [" + strTablename + "]";

            OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(strSQL, conn);

            DataTable dt = new DataTable();
            OleDbDataAdapter da = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);
            da.Fill(dt);
            //At this point row count=2 which doesn't make sense
