Extreme ASP.NET: Text Template Transformation Toolkit and ASP.NET MVC

The Visual Studio T4 code generation engine lets you parse an input file and transform it into an output file. We give you a basic introduction to T4 templates and show you how ASP.NET MVC uses this technology.

In a button's control template, how can I alter the color of a text block?

Using WPF 4, I'm trying to create a button style (that would preferably work in SL, as well) that alters the text color of any contained text when the button is mouseover'd. Since I'm trying to make this compatible with Silverlight, I'm using the visual state manager:

<Style TargetType="{x:Type Button}">
  <Setter Property="Template">
    <Setter.Value>
      <ControlTemplate TargetType="Button">
        <Border x:Name="outerBorder" CornerRadius="4" BorderThickness="1" BorderBrush="#FF757679">
          <VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
            <VisualStateGroup x:Name="CommonStates">
              <VisualState x:Name="Normal" />
              <VisualState x:Name="MouseOver">
                <Storyboard>
                  <ColorAnimation Duration="0" To="#FFFEFEFE"
                          Storyboard.TargetProperty="(TextElement.Foreground).(SolidColorBrush.Color)"
                          Storyboard.TargetName="contentPresenter"/>
                </Storyboard>
              </VisualState>
            </VisualStateGroup>
          </VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
          <Grid>

How to set color of text inside a ContentPresenter in a template

I'm working a WPF application and currently working on some theming in Blend. I'm going for a dark theme and I've created a button template to use on buttons throughout the application, and the button is dark as well. The color of text in the Content property is black, and I want to change that to white so it's readable against the dark background. I think I should be able to do this within the template somewhere, but I can't find out where and Google is not getting me anywhere either.

Any clues?

Dynamic Data Field template edits - Tooltip text, Dynamic Data Page template edits - field sort

I have an ASP.net website build in VB 2010 web dev pro using 4.0 framework.  Its a dynamic data site and I am having some trouble formating some of the field and page canned templates.

Q1: Field Templates - the tooltip code (TextBox1.ToolTip = Column.Description) is within the ascx.vp pages for each of the field templates.  Where can I update each columns description (as the code references) so the tooptip will be column/field specific.  If its not as straight forward as that, I was trying to write an if/else statement because the tooltip code is set at the field type level (decimal, date, etc) and I want it to be column specific.  example;

if column.value = Financial Impact

then  TextBox1.ToolTip = "enter financial impact in whole dollars"

else TextBox1.ToolTip = "next fields tooltip text"

Building a grouping Grid with GridView and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit CollapsiblePanel

I've posted an update to this post to apply on demand loading of Details data using ASP.NET AJAX PageMethods. I'm demonstrating the usage if CollapsiblePanelExtender client events on the new post. Check it out.

I admit, Matt Berseth is really inspiring me! Few days ago I pass through 2 of his great posts:

.Surrounding your Data Table and Dialog Controls with ComponentArt Styled Panels
.Building a Grouping Grid with the ASP.NET 3.5 LinqDataSource and ListView Controls
The first one is pure design tips one which I used for making good presentation of my demo here. The 2nd post is actually the idea.

AutoCompleteStringCollection for text box in DataGridView 2.0

I have been searching for a way to have autocomplete in a DataGridTextBox
object. There does not appear to be an obvious way to do this like you would
for a TextBox outside of a grid using the AutoCompleteCustomSource. Any
thoughts on how I can add this collection? :)

Built-in Functions - Text and Image Functions in SQL Server

Text and image functions operate on TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE data types. These data types are deprecated with SQL Server 2005 and should be replaced by VARCHAR(MAX), NVARCHAR(MAX) and VARBINARY(MAX) when possible. Alternatively you can also consider storing large string values using XML data type. Text and image functions are nondeterministic.

Future versions of SQL Server will not support TEXT, NTEXT and IMAGE data types. Columns with TEXT / NTEXT data type do not support commonly used string functions such as LEN, LEFT, RIGHT, etc. Furthermore, due to the large size of TEXT data you''re likely to see performance issues if you store such data in the database. However, at times you can''t help but use the TEXT / NTEXT / IMAGE data types (for example when supporting 3rd party databases when you cannot change the schema) - this is when text and image functions come in handy.

Using the WPF Toolkit DataGrid

WPF comes with a large number of built in controls, but from the beginning it has lacked something that many application developers find extremely important - a DataGrid. You can use the ListView to create something approximating a DataGrid
