Windows 2000 UI Innovations: Enhance Your User's Experience with New Infotip and Icon Overlay Shell

Windows 2000 includes some helpful new UI features you can customize and implement in your own applications. In this article you'll see how to provide infotips for files, after making the appropriate registry entries. Then create a custom column handler extension, resulting in a new column for the Explorer's Details view. In order to further extend the shell, additional UI goodies will also be examined and implemented including: search handlers, cleanup handlers, folder customizations using property sheet handlers and icon overlays, and context menu shell extensions. All the code samples are rolled up into a handy package which we've named, by tradition, ShellToys.

Problem with user controls and the toolbox

Im building a control library, its just a library that builds to a dll with a bunch of user controls. But So far I can only get "user controls" to be loaded into the toolbox in a separate project. Many on my user controls need only be derived from a specific control and I often find using a user control is unnecessary for the control. So the question is, how can I get a control that is not derived from the user control class, to show in the toolbox, in a separate project? Another thing I would like to decorate my controls with an icon for the toolbox. I tried [ToolboxBitmap("Filename")] at the top of the class but it did not work for me.AbleOpus.ath.cx

embedded javascript in user control

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible to embed javascript in a user control. I've followed this article advices. It works with a custom server control but not with a web user control. Is there something special to do to make it work with user controls ?Moreover, it would be nice that only one javascript reference (<script src=""></script>) figure on the page if I use the same user control several times on the page. Is it possible ? Thanks, mathmax

Display confirm message using javascript after user successful logs in

I need to display a javascript confirm box after the user successfully logs into the application. If the select 'yes'  of the confirm box then I need to navigate them to a different page and if they select 'no' the default.aspx page should be displayed. I am using the login control.

I tried to use ClientScript. RegisterClientScriptBlock on Login1_Authenticate event, it didn't work. I tried the same thing on the Page_Load event of Default.aspx as well as Master Page load event, that also didnt work.

How can this be accomplished? Need a quick resolution.

Hi all,

User control can not be added in to toolbox,Unless or until it is changed into custom control.(VS 2005.)
