SSIS 2005 Control Flow Task Priority

The short version is I am looking for a way to prioritize certain tasks in SSIS 2005 control flows. That is I want to be able to set it up so that Task B does not start until Task A has started but Task B does not need to wait for Task A to complete. The goal is to reduce the amount of time where I have idle threads hanging around waiting for Task A to complete so that they can move onto Tasks C, D & E. The issue I am dealing with is converting a data warehouse load from a linear job that calls a bunch of SPs to an SSIS package calling the same SPs but running multiple threads in parallel. So basically I have a bunch of Execute SQL Task and Sequence Container objects with Precedent Constraints mapping out the dependencies. So far no problems, things are working and initial testing looks like it will cut our load time significantly. However I noticed that tasks with no downstream dependencies are commonly being sequenced before those that do have dependencies. This is causing a lot of idle time in certain spots that I would like to minimize. For example: I have about 60 procs involved with this load, ~10 of them have no dependencies at all and can run at any time. Then I have another one with no upstream dependencies but almost every other task in the job is dependent on it. I would like to make sure that the task with the dependencies is running before I pick up any of t

SSIS Execute Process Task Give "Access is Denied" error but it is not related to access control.

Hello All - I have a very weired SSIS problem. I am using BIDS in two machines - Windows 7 Professional Edition x64 bit (development workstation) and Windows 2003 Standard Edition x32 bit SP2 (server) . The visual studio version on both the machines are Version 2.0.50727 SP2. I found that my package's ExecuteProcessTask fails with "Access is denied" error in Windows2003 but runs ok in Windows 7 dev box. I then tried to debug the package in the Windows 2003 environment itself. The package failed in debug mode too with the same message. After looking for a while I found that when I shorten the Argument length of the failing ExecuteProcessTask the task did seem to work. So in Windows2003 environment if my argument exceeds 1846 characters the ExecuteProcessTask fails with message "Access is Denied". If the argument string is less than 1846 it works ok. In Windows 7 environment there is no problem at all. It does not seem like access problem but I may be wrong. Has anyone seen this? I will appreciate any reply. Thanks, Niben

my custom control flow task's ui failed to create the task...

Hi.. I hope someone else has seen this. The funny thing about the error is it reports on my version 1.0 task but if you hover over the task icon in tool box it clearly indicates I have load my 1.1.1 version from the gac. Data Flow Task failing to drag-and-drop onto SSIS Control Flow

This morning, I started having problems with Visual Studio 2005 on XP when I tried to create an SSIS project; I was getting an error message about the failure to create an SSIS runtime object, with the reference "Unable to cast COM of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.DTS.Runtime.Wrapper.PackageNeutralClass' to interface type". Digging here and elsewhere on the Net, I used regsvr32 to re-register msxml3.dll, msxml6.dll, and dts.dll. This allowed me to create a new SSIS project, but I was unable to add a data flow task to the Control Flow pane -- when I dragged the control onto the pane, nothing happened, and when opened the Data Flow pane and clicked on the 'No data flow task has been defined. Click here to create a data flow task" link, I got a 'Failed to create the task. The designer could not be initialized." error. Searching here and on the Net, I uninstalled and reinstalled the SQL Server 2005 workstation tools.

After doing this, I am still unable to create a data flow task by dragging the task out of the toolbox; the pointer assumes the right form for the drag-and-drop, as it does for other tasks, but when I release the mouse button, nothing happens. However, when I go to the Data Flow pane and click on the 'click here to create a new data flow task', it creates the task, and I am able to use copy-and-paste to make copies of the data flow task

Adding Dynamic Rows in ASP.NET GridView Control with TextBoxes and with Delete functionality

In my previous examples, I have demonstrated on how to add dynamic rows in GridView control with TextBoxes and how to save the values into the database. Now, seems that most of the developers are asking if how to add a delete functionality with it. So in this example, I'm going to show on how to delete a certain row in the dynamic GridView with TextBoxes.

Accessing the different controls inside a GridView control

how we can access a particular control which resides inside a GridView control. In this article I will show you how you can access different controls inside a GridView control. We will see how we can access a TextBox control, a DropDownList control and a ListBox control. If you are working with ASP.NET 1.X then you might want to check out my article Accessing Different Controls Inside a DataGrid.

In-Depth look at the GridView Control

In the last article we looked at few of the new controls available in Asp.net 2.0. We also talked about Grid View Control which has replaced the Asp.net 1.1 DataGrid control for good. In this article we will examine more features of the Grid View control. In this article we will see some of the common operations that can be performed using the GridView control. Apart from these operations there are many more functions that can be performed on the control and which we will see in the later articles

ASP.NET repeater control - databind with style

even used the inline editing features, which I at the time thought was the coolest way possible to write ASP.NET code ( I managed to write code to hide all other rows and only show the current one - the row being edited). With a nice looking EditTemplate it looked indeed very slick but it really turned into giant and hard to manage code behind files.

Creating Paging for a Repeater Control

A common question is "How do I implement paging within a Repeater?" Although the beauty of the Repeater control is its flexibility, you're on your own for building most functions. ASP.NET 2.0 has included some new controls that provide paging, as does the DataGrid in ASP.NET 1.1. However, this tip shows you how to roll your own paging for a simple data viewer.

Using TemplateFields in the GridView Control

The GridView is composed of a set of fields that indicate what properties from the DataSource are to be included in the rendered output along with how the data will be displayed. The simplest field type is the BoundField, which displays a data value as text. Other field types display the data using alternate HTML elements. The CheckBoxField, for example, renders as a checkbox whose checked state depends on the value of a specified data field; the ImageField renders an image whose image source is based upon a specified data field. Hyperlinks and buttons whose state depends on an underlying data field value can be rendered using the HyperLinkField and ButtonField field types.

GridView control to show master-child or master-slave data, written in c#, asp.net

I previously made a master slave datagrid using Visual Studio 2003 .Net (original article) that would allow users to show data to clients using collapse and expand features. These features however did not carry over to gridview for many users. This tutorial will explaing how to create a collapsable/expandable gridview in frameworks 2.0 and higher

Easily manipulate data with the GridView control in ASP.NET 2.0

Last week, I introduced ASP.NET 2.0's GridView data control and covered the basics of using it. This week, I go a step further by going into the details of working with the data contained in the control. This includes viewing, editing, and deleting data. Thankfully, the GridView control makes it easy to utilize these features. Before diving into these topics, I begin with an examination of the different field types supported by the GridView control.

GridView Multiple Filter AJAX Control

This AJAX control enables the user to filter data within any column inside a GridView. The user can add multiple filters and can delete existing ones too.

Choosing Between a User Control or Web Part for SharePoint

SharePoint will only display Web Parts on a page. However, there are publicly available shims that allow you to write user controls and have them be displayed as a Web Part. From SharePoint's point of view, the shim is a Web Part. From the point of view of the user control, the shim is simply a control in .NET that is including the user control
