SSAS: An operation on a socket could not be performed...

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server

Here is the scenario:  SSRS report in DEV, issues query that spins up Memory big time on SSAS.  MsmDSrv showing 1+ GBs Memory usage in Task Manager. After the connection is terminated, SSAS Service gets cycled.  At that point, can connect via SSMS from another server to this SSAS server. However when connecting from local SSMS, receive this error:  A connection cannot be made.  Eusure that the servier is running (admodClient).  An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or becasue a queue was full 127.0.0.1:2383 I really tried to find root cause - network trace, tcpview, vmmap, cycle SSAS, cycle SQL (shouldn't be related, but hey..) - but to no avail.  I'd love to be able to fix this without bouncing the server. SQL version 10.0.2531 SP1 x64, Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise.  Ideas?  Booting server now, but would looooove to have a non-boot solution to this

An Excel Services Application setting does not allow the requested operation to be performed.

I'm facing a problem with Excel services and JSOM. On the page load, I'm registering a JSOM with a Visio webaccess webpart. SPWebApplication, This operation can be performed only on a computer that is joined to a server farm

Hi,

We are trying to migrate a console program (C#) from Moss 2007 to SP 2010.

One of the functions in the program has to loop thru several web apps/site colls/sites/lists to trim permissions and uses this sentence to get a reference to the web app:

- SPWebApplication webApplication = SPWebApplication.Lookup(serverUri);

In MOSS 2007 it works but in SP 2010 we see this error message:

"This operation can be performed only on a computer that is joined to a server farm by users who have permissions in SQL Server to read from the

Getting Error When Calling Wrokflow Service - The operation could not be performed because WorkflowI

The scenario .  ..

I have developed a Custom Activity(CA) which has a designer like SEQUENCE.

I created a Workflow Service (XAMLX) and placed my Custom Activity(CA) as the first activity. Then I placed a RECEIVE activity within this CA and provided all the necessary details.

Now if I run the workflow service and call the service operation it is throwing execption.

Failed to invoke the service. Possible causes: The service is offline or inaccessible; the client-side configuration does not match the proxy; the existing proxy is invalid. Refer to the stack trace for more detail. You can try to recover by starting a new proxy, restoring to default configuration, or refreshing the service.

The operation could not be performed because WorkflowInstance 'a74eb5e2-72b4-4cb1-8a4d-daed6f431936' has completed.

Instead if I put the original SEQUENCE activity as first activity and then placed a RECEIVE activity it is working good. But I don't want to use SEQUENCE activity here . .. . I need my custom SEQUENCE like activity to be the first activity and make this as a place holder for other activities.

Please help to get out of these errors.

A lengthy operation in an ASP.NET web service

Hello,

I've built an ASP.NET web service with .NET 2.0 (an asmx file). I invoke a web service method using Ajax. The method takes a substantial amount of time to execute (5 minutes to 1 hour). I believe it's not a good idea to "hang" the web request for so long.
I'm wondering if the web service method could spawn an additional process which in turn would execute the lengthy operation and notify the web service once the operation is completed.
Are there any good practices regarding this kind of functionality?

Thanks,
Leszek

WCF Authentication per Operation

I have a WCF service I'm hosting via IIS. I'm using wsHttp with ClientCredentialType UserName. The service is working just as it should, and authenticating each operation. My propblem is that I would like to expose one of my service operations without UserName authentication, no auth at all. Is it possible once a services clred type has been applied administrativly?

Error "user does not have permission to perform this operation" with User Instance = True.

I setup SQL Server 2005 / SQL Express. All works fine in SQL Server 2005.

I am connecting to a SQL Database from VS 2005,  Tools/Connect to Database. I set the Data Source to "Microsoft SQL Server Database File (SqlClient)" (meaning SQL Server Express) and User Instance = True, and Integrated Security = True.

The above is working successfully on all machines except my Laptop. On my Laptop, I am getting this error "user does not have permission to perform this operation". On my Laptop, if I change User Instance = False, it works fine. Also, If I connect to SQL Server 2005 it works fine only if User Instance = False.

I tried all kind of security changes, nothing worked. For example, I setup Everyone as Full Control for the Folder and the MDF File of SQL Server. I gave my user ID as sysadmin role in SQL Server Express. Also, I enabled creating User Instance form SQL Server Express, Nothing is working.

Appreciate your help.

Tarek.

Can't start crawl becasue of index move operation

Hi there,

I can't start crawl task. The log says that "Deleted by the gatherer (The start address or content source that contained this item was deleted and hence this item was deleted.)" But I did not change the path of content sources and When I trie to start crawling job it says "Crawling might be paused because a backup or an index move operation is in progress. Are you sure you want to resume this crawl?"

What is index move operation? What should I do? I'll really appreciate the solution greatly. Thanks in advance.

Kerberos between MOSS 2007 and SSAS 2005

I realize this is probably going to be one of those vague questions that I am not going to get much help on here, but I thought I'd give this a shot before we go the MS Incident route on monday.

We have tried to setup Kerberos between MOSS 2007 AND SSAS 2005 to no avail.  We have been through the knowledge base articles outlining the setup multiple times with all the experts on MOSS and Security here where I work.  We've used other materials we have on kerberos here.  But the end result is that the double hop is not happening.  We are trying to connect three ways: excel services, ssrs 2005 in integrated mode, and Sharepoint KPI's (using analysis services).  In every case the connection is not happening.

Other details are that the ssrs integrated mode seems to be setup right because I do get a report (albiet all it has is a connection error message).  Excel services works fine if I use the unattended service account, but when I switch the odc file to windows (should cause kerberos to kick in) it fails.  When I try to add a kpi to the kpi list it can't retrieve a list of kpi's from ssas.

In all cases I am the user trying to perform these operations, and I have total access to the cube -- I'm the developer.  I have no problems connecting to the cube directly through excel, so the security at that end passes t
