exporting to excel templates

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi all, I currently have an excel file that has 2 spreadsheets. 1 is the raw data (formatted) and the second is the validation spreadsheet. I want to create a new file biweekly that has the new raw data, but the same validation spreadsheet/same formatting sheet for raw data. I created a file system task that copies the sample template into a different location, then renames it as an excel file with the date included in the name (@newfile). My question is, how can I now connect to the new excel file within the data flow task and insert the data into the formatted sheet? I have tried creating an excel connection to another workbook in the same path and setting the connection string = @newfile, however I am getting the following error; Error 1 Validation error. Data Flow Task: Excel Destination [67]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "AG010908.xls" failed with error code 0xC0202009. Package.dtsx 0 0  Even with that connection working, how can I insert the data in the first row of the formatted spreadsheet (since it won't be available until after the file is created. The name of the formatted sheet will remain static) Thanks!

Exporting MOSS 2007 List to Excel 2007

When doing the export, the columns "Item Type" and "Path" are automatically displayed in the sheet.  Is there anyway to suppress these fields from exporting automatically?  I'm sure this has already been asked before, but I couldn't find anything after much searching (perhaps I'm using the wrong keywords).  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exporting SharePoint list to excel.

Hi All,   We have a SharePoint list in which one column is "Person or Group" and it can take multiple values. When we export it to spread sheet this column contains some junk data.We are using MOSS 2007 and Office 2007. Previously asked question on the same issue http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointgeneral/thread/00cc338d-8201-4b8d-b2ea-5979ee58a464 Does any one know of a Microsoft published article for this issue as we need to provide it to our higher ups for this issue.   Thanks.

Issue while exporting to Excel

Hi All, We are having report in SSRS 2005, everything is working fine while Running the report on BIDS as well as on Report Server, but as soon as we export the report to Excel it is creating issue(S) not just a issue. First - I'm not able to see "Footer" in Excel, although it does exist in BIDS as well as Report Server. It is visible while doing Print-Preview in Excel, why so is it a bug, is their any work around to make it visible without doing Print-Preview, please do let me know! Second - It is regarding "Header", I have couple of text boxes in my Report Header, as soon as I include text boxes in Report Header and when I export to excel, the rows & columns height as well as width is getting disturb (meaning some getting compressed and some getting expanded), so to make it look attractive we have to manually arrange in proper order before delivering to our end-user, Can anybody tell me why rows & columns are getting disturbed and also how to arrange with exact height & width without any manual interpection, please help me out, this is getting me crazy?   Thanks Regards, Kumar

Excel External Table Data can only create new SharePoint List when Exporting from Excel?

I have a SQL Query that I refresh everyday in Excel. I want to be able to export this list over to a SharePoint list right after my refresh in Excel but I can only Export to a SharePoint list only once. If I try to export again to the same list then it will give me the error "The specified list name is already in use on this server. You must rename the list before publishing it to the server." I have web parts that have connections to this list and I do not want to export my Query to a new SharePoint list everyday. Does anyone know a way around this issue?

Exporting image byte stream to Excel

I am working on implementing exporting data to Excel functionality in ASP.Net and as part of that an image stored in the database has to be exported to Excel along with some other content. I am able to write the content to Excel by referring to the required cells. Is it possible to write the image byte stream read from the database which is in the form of byte[] directly to Excel sheet without saving that to physical disk?

Please suggest how to write image byte stream to Excel without saving the image to physical disk?

Thank you,

Error occuring while exporting larger reports to Excel from SharePoint

I have SSRS configured in SharePoint integration mode. I have reports deployed. if a user wants to export the report to an excel file works fine for smaller reports. But, in the case of larger reports it is throwing me an error while doing export to Excel. I am getting message like

An unexpected error has occured.

Example: Monthly reports are exporting to excel file fine. Where as, Yearly report has more data than the monthly reports. If I try to export these reports, I am getting above error. I must sure, this is something to do with the IIS time out or application time out(setting in web.config file of web application). Please some one guide me where is best place to do this.

Viewing works fine for both the reports.

I appreciate your help.

Exporting a PerformancePoint Excel Services Report to Excel

Have an Excel services PivotTable in a PPS 2010 dashboard.  When the user selects the "Export to Excel" option they receive this error.

I do not see any options in the webpart to show the old toolbar that used to show up in the Excel Services views.  (It had an option to open the pivottable in Excel or export a "snapshot" to Excel)

How do users export Excel Services reports to Excel?

The selected view does not support an export to the selected format.

Exporting Data from SQL Server to Excel; From Excel to SQL Server

I read some documentation on the web today about exporting data from SQL Server to Excel, and doing the reverse, exporting data from Excel to SQL Server.  Actually, this link was pretty good:

For one thing, what is Excel linked server "EXCELLINK"?

This is pretty good too:

This is very good; gets pretty complicated though:

I’m still pretty confused about how it all works.  It’s very easy to turn on the Macro Recorder in Excel, connect to SQL Server, choose a Table, and import date from that Table, but I would like to know if there is a more eloquent way of retrieving data, rather than doing something like:

"ODBC;DRIVER=SQL Server;SERVER=EXCEL-4J2W8KYNP\SQLEXPRESS;UID=;APP=2007 Microsoft Office system;WSID=EXCEL-4J2W8KYNP;Trusted_Connecti" _

Data shows #value! after exporting to excel

I am using SSRS 2008. I am trying to export the report to excel format. In the Preview option, I am able to see the exact number, but after exporting the data to excel, data is showed as "#value!"

How to solve this?

Thank you

Exporting to Microsoft Excel from a DataView Web Part consuming a Web Service with Parameters

In Sharepoint Designer, I've developed a page displaying a DataView Web Part which consumes an XML Web Service with three parameters.  These parameters are passed in from a simple Form Web Part containing three input fields.  I am able to provide default values for the web service so the dataview is initially populated, and when I enter in new parameters, the web service goes back, grabs the requested data and displays in the dataview nice and slick.

The problem I'm having is this: In Internet Explorer 7, when I right-click on the DataView Web Part and select Export to Microsoft Excel, Excel opens up, says "ExternalData_1: Getting Data..." and returns the data from the web service which applies to the default parameter values each and every time, regardless of whether I have changed the parameters on the web page, and contrary to what the DataView Web Part displays on the screen.

Has anyone else run into this, and is there a solution to the problem?

Best regards,
Mark Christie
