Best Way to Remove unused Output Names From XML Source

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hello, I have a XML file that I am importing using XML Source "Data Flow Source". The XML file has suppose 20 Output Names (Edit - Columns - Output Names) and I am using only 5 of those. So I think I should disable rest all. So shall I uncheck all columns of those unused output from Edit - Columns - Output Name for all 15 outputs and (may be many columns of thst output) or is there any easy way to do this? Thanks, Prabhat Nath

Remove subsite names from global navigation (top) menu

I'm fairly new to SharePoint 2010 so don't take this as a more difficult question than it probably is.  The way I'm organizing my site is to hide current navigation (left menu) and have only the global navigation (top menu) with drop downs.  The only active links that I am showing are links to lists within my subsites.  I don't want users to be able to click on subsite links that seem to appear automatically in my top navigation.

I understand that I can turn off "show subsites" in Site Settings --> Navigation, but even with these boxes not checked, I still get links to my subsites showing up in the global navigation (top) menu.

Ideally I just want the drop down menus and their links to to show, not the subsite names which I can't seem to turn off.  Any assistance is appreciated!

Export Visio Database Table Names to Excel

If you use the Enterprise Architect edition of Microsoft Visio for data modeling regularly, then there is a good chance that at some point you've wanted to export just the table names into Excel. You might want to do this to map logical ERD entities to physical data model tables, track project status by entity, or track overlap between database versions.

Microsoft StyleCop: Source Code Analyzer for C#

StyleCop is similar in many ways to Microsoft Code Analysis (specifically FxCop), but there are some important distinctions. FxCop performs its analysis on compiled binaries, while StyleCop analyzes the source code directly. For this reason, FxCop focuses more on the design of the code, while StyleCop focuses on layout, readability and documentation. Most of that information is stripped away during the compilation process, and thus cannot be analyzed by FxCop.

C# and XML Source Code Documentation

Through many years of enterprise level software development and consulting, I became critically aware of the importance of good source code documentation, and several years ago when I began working with the first release of Visual Studio .NET beta 1 and found C# provided built-in support for inline XML code documentation, I was thrilled.

Comma-Delimited Output

One of the common tasks performed when retrieving data from a SQL Server database is returning the result as a comma-delimited output instead of a result set. This task can be performed by using a CURSOR selecting the column to be concatenated together. Each row returned by the CURSOR is then concatenated together into a variable separating each one by a comma.

abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

ASP.NET provides a configuration system we can use to keep our applications flexible at runtime. In this article we will examine some tips and best practices for using the configuration system for the best results.

The element of a web.config file is a place to store connection strings, server names, file paths, and other miscellaneous settings needed by an application to perform work. The items inside appSettings are items that need to be configurable depending upon the environment, for instance, any database connection strings will change as you move your application from a testing and staging server into production.

Let's abstract away the source of the connection string using a class with a static property.

Formview LinqData source not allowing updates

OK, I'm confused.  I've set up a formview with a Linqdata source to allow users to edit records.  When I run it, edit data and submit, it blows up and tells me "Linq datasource6  does not support the Select property when the Delete, Insert or Update operations are enabled."  I googled that warning and saw a couple of posts on this forum saying the problem is the slect statement has to be removed from the Linq data source for it to allow updates.

But if I remove the select statement then how do I show the user specific info on pageload?   plus I thought the two way databind was an advantge of the datasource control.

Remove #Region from whole web site

Hi All,

I need to deliver source code to client and my boss need to remove all the comments and #region sections from the whole web site source code.

So is there any functionality available in visual studio 2010 or may be in an other 3rd party tool available to do so, which can remove all the #region from all over the source code ?

Otherwise my developers has to do donkey work.... :(( and I don't wish it.

Any help or tips/tricks would be appreciated.

Inline conditional output

Is it possible to somehow output some content based upon some conditional check in Razor? If not, I hope this possibility will be added in the future. What I want to do is the following:

<option value="1" @if(ListMode == 1) { = "selected=\"true\"" }>Full list</option>

As I can't figure out a way to do this, I have to either make a helper that does it for me or write duplicate code.

Any plans on releasing the source code for WebMatrix itself?

I tried reflecting into WebMatrix.exe but was unable.  I'm interested on how you integrated the WPF Ribbon & the Office-style sidebar.

saving XML output from webservice

 I created a webservice that takes casenum as input and gives results as a dataset in an XML.

I could make a web client to display the resulting dataset in a grid view. Pls see my code copied below.

Now I want to create a console client that takes the casenum as input, to call the webservice and saves the resulting xml for further processing, but can't figure out how to just capture the xml to save. Here's the code for my web client. I would appreciate if you could help modify this tocapture the resulting xml to save file locally.

Thank You.

namespace ResultsWebServicesClient
    public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
        protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)

        private void BindDataToGrid(string CaseNum)
            FG_Results results = new FG_Results();
            DataSet ds1 = new DataSet();
            ds1 = results.Get_FG_Results(CaseNum);
            GridView1.AutoGenerateColumns = true;
            GridView1.DataSource = ds1.Tables[0];

        protected void GetResults(object sender, EventArgs e)
