Creating and translating culture resx files

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :.NET Framework
My customer has 140 German resx files in different folders that he wants us to translate.   He wants us to provide culture specific resource files (en-gb) and has provided us with “Windows Resource Localization Editor” to translate the files with.   He wants the culture specific resource files to only contain strings we translate and anything we don’t translate will fallback to the Neutral/Default culture being the German resx file.   This seems to work well in the “Windows Resource Localization Editor” as only edited/translated strings are added to the translated resx file en-gb.resx   The problem is that we don’t want to use “Windows Resource Localization Editor” as we want to use a tool that allows for side by side translation and utilizes Translation Memory so we can stay consistent when translating the Help and Doc.   Most of the localization tools that we want to work with would just import the Neutral resx and output a copy of the Neutral file but with the strings translated. But as I said the client doesn't want to have too much unnecessary information in the culture specific resx.   My client doesn’t know much about the localization capabilities of Visual Studio and I don’t know anything about Visual Studio. When we have translated for other clients in the past they have just pr

Translating RESX files

So I took the Forums advice and made a separate RESX file for each ASPX page in my web app. Personally, I wanted to put all of my language strings into a single global RESX file, but instead I did it the 'right' way and made a separate one for each ASPX. So now Ive got about 100 different RESX files with 5 to 15 short strings of text each. Many of them are repeats. The question is, how can I export these 100 RESX files into one single spreadsheet that I can send off for translation to other languages? Whats the normal way to do that? I dont want to send the translating company 100 little files, I'd rather send just one big one. And I'd like to omit duplicate text strings (for example, "Cancel" appears in at least 50 of the RESX files - I dont want to pay for that word to be translated 50 times).

Localization .RESX files - How to work with translators

I understand I need to place all the translated strings in .RESX files. How do I work with translators??? I do not think they will be able to open RESX files? Please advise your existing method of working with them. They mostly know Word... :)

Creating Multiple Excel files Using SSIS

Hello Friends,  I have to create multiple excel files(Per Year eg 2008 , 2009, 2010....) from datatable using SSIS  For that i have to use one template excel file that is already created on some location.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks Thanks

When dynamically creating an excel file, can SSIS create xlsx files successfully? I can only get SSI

Problem: An Excel file (XLSX) dynamically created by a SQL Task cannot be opened via Excel. The task succeeds, but when you try to open the workbook in Excel you get the fillowing error message: Excel cannot open the file 'myfile.xlsx" because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

1. If the Excel file (xlsx) is created manually in Excel, then the SQL Task has no problem creating table (new worksheets) in the xlsx (so the "CREATE TABLE" statement works fine)
2. If I adjust the connection and task to work with Excel 97-2003 (xls) format then the approach works perfectly
3. The execution results show success of the SQL Task, but there are two warning messages. These same warnings appear when the SQL Task creates a new table (worksheet) successfully in a workbook (xlsx) which was created manually in Excel (and is not corrupt). Messages as follows:
Warning: Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.

creating zip files on the fly

I'm trying to create a web page where a user can select a number of files and then VB.NET should generate a zip file. I've tried a number of zip libraries (sharpziplib and others), but they return empty zip files or corrupt zip files. What is the correct way to handle this?

Editing RESX Files

Hi all,

I am able to read resx files present in App_LocaResources folder using ResXResourceReader

i am trying to edit the resouse values using ResXResourceWriter, but it seems ResXResourceWriter has only ways to add new resources , is there any way or woraround using which i can edit resource key values using ResXResourceWriter?

Modifying using its XML structure is way to do it, bui is there any way that RESX files can be modified directly using ResXResourceWriter?

Thanks in advance

How to minimize time when creating 2005 merge replication with very large data files and log files?

Dear all,

We're using window server 2003 sp1 + sql ent 2005 sp2 with merge replication between 2 servers. Since 1 of server sql is down, we need to create merge replication again. However, our data file size is 60Gb and log size is 40 GB and when we create merge replication it may need more than 10 hours to finish which is unacceptable since when creating replication the online db normal service operation may be affected. Is there any other way that can reduce the replication creation time within 5 hours to finish? Thanks a lot.

P.S: we are using full recovery model and plan to change to simple recovery model. Any help?

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:

Creating your SharePoint Governance Plan

One of the most common questions that I get from prospects as I'm talking to them about the creation of a governance plan and process is what does it look like. In other words, there are materials available which describe what should be in a governance plan but there isn't a ton of guidance on what the process of creating a governance plan and process are.

Creating Paging for a Repeater Control

A common question is "How do I implement paging within a Repeater?" Although the beauty of the Repeater control is its flexibility, you're on your own for building most functions. ASP.NET 2.0 has included some new controls that provide paging, as does the DataGrid in ASP.NET 1.1. However, this tip shows you how to roll your own paging for a simple data viewer.

Creating an AJAX Repeater in ASP.NET MVC

The "TaskList" is a tried an true example of the most basic thing that you can do in any framework. Unfortunately, I had some problems finding a really good example of all the steps necessary to get a task list to work in ASP.NET MVC 1.0.

Creating a Generic Entity Framework 4.0 Repository

With .NET 4.0 right around the corner, I thought it would be cool to download Visual Studio 2010 beta 2 and start playing around with the next release of Entity Framework.

The initial release of Entity Framework came with a great deal of criticism. To make matters worse, there was a large uproar when it was rumored that Microsoft would be abandoning LINQ to SQL, in favor of Entity Framework. This was because, at the time, many developers felt Entity Framework was an inferior technology to LINQ to SQL. To set things right, Microsoft proactively moved forward with improving Entity Framework, in time for the 4.0 release of the .NET Framework. This is good news because my initial impressions, so far, have been nothing but positive.

Creating a Simple Class in C#

The second article in the C# Object-Oriented Programming tutorial describes how classes are created in C# and how behaviour, in the form of publicly visible and private, hidden methods can be added. This demonstrates some of the uses of encapsulation

Creating SharePoint items with CreateItemActivity

Instead of creating new list items from code in your workflow you can use CreateItemActivity. CreateItemActivity can be used for creating list items or files. Properties of interest for this activity are the following (most of them are self-explanatory):

Creating an Excel Spreadsheet programmatically using VB.NET

The Interoperability services make it very easy to work with COM Capable Applications such as Word and Excel. This article reveals using Excel from a managed application. Excel is the spreadsheet component of Microsoft Office 2000. The majority of Excel programmatic functionality is exposed through Automation via the type library Excel9.olb. The intention of this article is to express that a managed application can interrelate with Excel as a COM server.
