UI Frontiers: Multi-Touch Manipulation Events in WPF

Multi-touch has progressed from being a futuristic prop of sci-fi films to a mainstream means of user interface. We'll show you how support for multi-touch in Windows 7 has filtered down and settled into various areas of the .NET Framework.

Search References multi-platform support is forward-compatible

Remember when I introduced you to the Search References extension? I know my fellow coworkers at Clarius are awesome and all, but I was happily surprised when after installing MonoDroid, the following just worked: See the "Filtered to: MonoDroid Profile"? See how the paths point to the right assemblies under MonoDroid reference assemblies? Kudos to the http://go-mono.com/monodroid/ team for integrating so nicely in the VS2010 environment! Silverlight design time support

Hi guys.

I made a sl4 usercontrol with design time support.

This control have tow dependency property : TargetControl and TargetProperty.

First have ElementBindingPickerPropertyValueEditor attribute set on design time project.

The second have Custom PropertyValueEditor attribute.

a multi-touch problem for listbox

we know it support the multi-touch in WPF4, and we know if SurfaceListBox's SelectionMode is Multiple, when user touch two items, two surfaceListBoxItem will be selected. but I try it in the listbox, find it is only select a item, not two item. Can you tell me how to implement it? thanks.

Large file support for WCF + Silverlight 4

I've seen some of the answers but nothing is really working - here is the issue, I drag a small image to a Silverlight browser application I created and it uploads to my server just fine - I then try and do this for a larger file - in this case its a .xap file that's bigger (100K). And I get an error "The remote server returned an error: NotFound." I know some default limits exists - 64K maybe

What I did do was use a Silverlight enabled WCF service (won't be using RIA) - but I hit this problem immedatly. So I decided to browes for an answer (yes, I've seen Shawn Wildermuths site and other answers) - I added a <system.serviceModel> section to my web.debug.config and added some settings I pulled off the web (still ramping up with WCF) and "assumed" it would fix the problem. Here are those settings

<behavior name="XAPTICLarge">
<serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" />
<serviceDebug includeExceptionDetailInFaults="false" />
<dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647"/>

<binding name="LargeBinding"

WPF 4.0 on Windows 7 Touch - Does PasswordBox support virtual (on-screen) keyboard?

I am developing a WPF 4.0 application to be deployed on a Windows 7 Touch machine.

During initial testing, I observed that TextBox control supports the virtual (on-screen) keyboard by default. However, the PasswordBox control does not seem to support the virtual keyboard.

I could not find any properties on PasswordBox to enable the virtual keyboard. Also, there isn't any guidance available online. For now, I assume that virtual keyboard has been disabled for security reasons.

Does the PasswordBox control support the virtual keyboard? If yes, please let me know the details.

Appreciate your time,

UI Frontiers: Multi-Touch Inertia

One of the ways in which a multi-touch interface attempts to mimic the real world is by introducing inertia. We'll show you how easy this is to duplicate in your own WPF apps.

WPF DataGrid Style Templates to make it look like the Silverlight DataGrid

Many of you might have noticed that the WPF DataGrid looks very blah compared to the Silverlight DataGrid.

Here are the WPF DataGrid Screenshot and Silverlight DataGrid Screenshot.

See how in the Silverlight DataGrid the lines are better, there are alternating row backgrounds and the selected row also looks better.

I am surprised the WPF DataGrid doesn't use the same styles by default as the Silverlight.

Has anyone styles the WPF DataGrid to make it look like the Silverlight DataGrid and if so can you share the templates with me?

Or is there a built-in theme in WPF DataGrid that looks close to the Silverlight DataGrid?

Font in IDE is reduced when dragging finger across touch pad.

 I don't know if this is a problem with my new Toshiba Laptop, or the VS 2010 IDE. Sometimes when dragging my finger across the laptop touch pad, the text in the IDE will be reduced to a really small font. This is so aggravating as I do not know why this happens or how to fix it.  Does anyone have any idea what is causing the problem and how to fix it?

Multi Select ComboBox in Silverlight

Need a way to use the combo box of silverlight which has check boxes and user can select multiple options from the combo box.

Microsoft CRM 2011 Silverlight: Busy Indicator Style

I was working for Microsoft CRM 2011 for more than 1 year and I like the web resource specially Silver light 4 which can used as web resource in Microsoft CRM 2011. I have really like the GUI of the Microsoft CRM 2011 and especially the control which I have design for this post " Busy Indicator". I have design the style of the Busy Indicator like the busy bar of the Microsoft CRM 2011, You can see the output in the Image 1 as shown.

ASP.NET, HTML, JavaScript Snippet Support (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

This post covers another useful improvement in VS 2010 - HTML/ASP.NET/JavaScript snippet support. Snippets allow you to be more productive within source view by allowing you to create chunks of code and markup that you can quickly apply and use in your application with a minimum of character typing.

Visual Studio has supported the concept of "snippets" for VB and C# in previous releases - but not for HTML, ASP.NET markup and JavaScript. With VS 2010 we now support snippets for these content types as well.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Serving Silverlight Apps from Windows Mobile

Even if mobile dev is not my every day work, thanks to the .Net Compact Framework, it's still .Net programming.

Here is the scenario:

You come back home, you have a windows mobile phone wifi capable and you want to quickly get access to your phone pictures from your home network.
You just activate the Wifi, run my app and then browse to the provided link from any computer on the network.

ASP.NET repeater control - databind with style

even used the inline editing features, which I at the time thought was the coolest way possible to write ASP.NET code ( I managed to write code to hide all other rows and only show the current one - the row being edited). With a nice looking EditTemplate it looked indeed very slick but it really turned into giant and hard to manage code behind files.

.NET 3.5 Adds Named Pipes Support

you want a named pipe server, all you have to do is create some instances of NamedPipeServerStream to handle each client connection. I stole the following code straight from the MSDN documentation.
ASP.NetWindows Application  .NET Framework  C#  VB.Net  ADO.Net
Sql Server  SharePoint  Silverlight  Others  All
