Windows 2000: Asynchronous Method Calls Eliminate the Wait for COM Clients and Servers

Windows 2000 is the first version of COM to support asynchronous method calls, which permit clients to make nonblocking calls to COM objects and objects to process incoming calls without blocking the calling threads. COM clients benefit from asynchronous method calls because they can continue working while waiting for outbound calls to return. Objects benefit because they can queue incoming calls and service them from a thread pool. Our SieveClient and SieveServer sample apps demonstrate how to create and use asynchronous clients and servers in COM-based distributed applications.

Call a web method in Javascript

Hi All,

I am first time working on web service and Javascript and trying to call a Web Method (web service) on a button click in Javascript.

What I want to achieve is as followed: When the button is clicked, call the web method, get the return URL value and store it to a session variable, the redirect the page to another page. However, this works only when the internet traffic is fast, it give me error when internet is slow as the Javascript is executed much faster than the web service. Is there any way to handle this?  Would be much appreciated for your help! Cheers.

Code as below:

function emailButton_onClick()

function getCurrentMapURL(getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess)
var proxy_url = 'WebService/GPSWebService.asmx/GetCurrentMap';

var response = map.print([proxy_url]);

function getCurrentMapURLOnSuccess()
emailAddress = document.getElementById('txtEmailAddress').value;

if(emailAddress != null)
alert('Do you want to send report

Cash Drawer - Method Open threw an exception - Windows Service

Hi All, I'm getting the following exception while calling Open method of Cash Drawer object. Method Open threw an exception.  Could not read the device name key's default value, or could not convert the Programmatic ID it holds into a valid Class ID. Code:   class Class1 { CashDrawer _uniCashDrawer1 = null; DeviceInfo cashDrawerDevice1 = null; PosExplorer posExplorer = new Microsoft.PointOfService.PosExplorer();   public void ClaimCashDrawer() { cashDrawerDevice1 = posExplorer.GetDevice("CashDrawer", "testDrawer"); if (cashDrawerDevice1 != null) { _uniCashDrawer1 = posExplorer.CreateInstance(cashDrawerDevice1) as CashDrawer; if (_uniCashDrawer1 != null) { _uniCashDrawer1.StatusUpdateEvent += new StatusUpdateEventHandler(UniCashDrawer1_StatusUpdateEvent); _uniCashDrawer1.Open(); _uniCashDrawer1.Claim(0); _uniCashDrawer1.DeviceEnabled = true; } } } }   Tha above code works fine if you put the code in WindowsApplication in all POS systems. The same is working if you put the code in Windows Service in all other POS systems. The same is not working if you put the code in Windows Service in Aures Galeo POS systems.  Thanks in advance. Unable to call an asmx web service using windows authentication from a Service workflow

Hello, I need to use an existing asmx service from inside my service workflow and I am unable to call it. This asmx service is hosted in a web application with iis set to windows authentication, anonymous is not allowed. I need to send the authentication, only way seems too be using transport for basicHttpBindings. Every time I try to call the service I get an error saying that there is nothing listening to the url of the service generated automatically by VS when I added the Service Reference ? my web config <configuration> <configSections> </configSections> <system.web> <compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> <system.serviceModel> <protocolMapping> <add scheme="http" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="WindowsCreds" /> </protocolMapping> <bindings> <basicHttpBinding> <binding name="UtilitiesSoap" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" allowCookies="false" bypassProxyOnLocal="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferSize="65536" maxBufferPoolSize="524288" maxReceivedMessageSize="65536"

WCF Basic Http Binding - Two server requests per method call

We have a service that uses BasicHttpBinding/Transport Security/Windows Authentication and is hosted in IIS. I have created a unit-test application in VSTS and whenever we test a WCF method, Fiddler records two calls. 1st call - No authorization token is sent. The WCF service returns a 401 error - Unauthorized: Access is denied. Http headers as sent in the request given below. POST http://localhost/AccountScreen.svc HTTP/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 SOAPAction: "IAccountScreen/RetrieveAccountDetails" Host: localhost Content-Length: 243 Expect: 100-continue Connection: Keep-Alive 2nd call - Authorization token is sent and the WCF service returns the expected response. POST http://localhost/AccountScreen.svc HTTP/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml; charset=utf-8 SOAPAction: "IAccountScreen/RetrieveAccountDetails" Authorization: Negotiate Host: localhost Content-Length: 243 Expect: 100-continue I am not able to figure out why there are two calls made to the server in the first place and what is the significance of the first call. Any thoughts?

How to call a method with IDataObject in click event in wpf?

As I'm new in WPF development, I came up with a problem, looks like simple, however, I couldn't solve. The problem is, how to call a method with IDataObject in a click event?? I've a method like:  public void setProperty(IDataObject obj)         {                                      PropertyGrid mygrid = new PropertyGrid();                        UIElement elt = ExtractElement(obj);             Type t = elt.GetType();             string name = (string)t.GetProperty("Name").GetValue(elt, null);             mygrid.Instance = name;         } I want to call this method in a click event. I don't know how to. I've tried but couldn't yet. Any help will be appreciated regarding this. Thank you.   Regards, Binaya

dgw programmatically call a method

I have a method on a dataGridView, which is fully addressed like this: private void dataGridView1_CellDoubleClick(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { //code }   I would like to access to this method programmatically, without mouse double click. And I have to pass a parameter of a row index. I have tried to pass an integer, but I got an error (cannot convert from 'int' to 'System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewCellEventArgs), like: foreach (DataGridViewRow row in dataGridView1.Rows) { if (row.Cells[0].Value.ToString() == _myCellName) { dataGridView1.Rows[row.Index].Selected = true; dataGridView1_CellDoubleClick(null, row.Index); //here Im trying to pass a value for the upper method break; } }   When the upper method (dgw_CellDoubleClick) is programmatically called, I would like to call an "e", with: if(e.RowIndex > 0) { //code } So what to pass from to the method, that will work?

ILGenerator : call DynamicMethod with Emit method

A sample of what I try to do :     class Program     {         static void Main(string[] args)         {             GenerationIL();         }         public static void GenerationIL()         {             Action oDynamicMethod = DynamicMethod();             DynamicMethod dm = new DynamicMethod("Run", null, Type.EmptyTypes);             ILGenerator oILGenerator = dm.GetILGenerator();             oILGenerator.Emit(OpCodes.Call, oDynamicMethod.Method); // Runtime ERROR             oILGenerator.Emit(OpCodes.Ret);             ((Action)dm.CreateDelegate(typeof(Action))).Invoke();         }         public static Action DynamicMethod()         {             DynamicMethod dm = new DynamicMethod("Todo", null, Type.EmptyTypes);             ILGenerator oILGenerator = dm.GetILGenerator();          &nbs

Problem with overriding OnPaint method of System.Windows.Forms.Textbox

Hi,   I want to change the border colour of the Textbox. However, when I override the OnPaint method, some strange behaviour occurs.   The new border is drawn, as is the textbox background. However, the text itself appears in bold and only while I actually type something in, afterwards it disappears. I have provided a sample of my code here:         protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs e)         {             base.OnPaint(e);             Rectangle rect = new Rectangle(0, 0, this.Width, this.Height);             ControlPaint.DrawBorder(e.Graphics, rect, _BorderColour, ButtonBorderStyle.Solid);         }   I have also set the style of the control to Userpaint, so that the paint method is actually used. Does anybody know how to solve this issue?

Is there a way to save a refernece to a method in a Tag property and call that method directly from

Hello, Here is a tough one, probably only answerable by someone who really knows his stuff. In the WPF program below, I would like to completely eliminate the necessity of the "LoadIt" method.  The way I'd like to do it is by saving the address ( or some other appropriate information ) of the method to be called to add a Person or Pet to the Expander's Tag.  Then, when the Add button is clicked, the Expander's Tag is read and the method saved therein is called.  The comments in the code below give the gist of what I would like to happen, if such is possible.  The actual application this will be applied to has many groups to add, thereby making the switch statement in the "LoadIt" method huge.  That is what I would like to avoid. Here is the fully functional test program: XAML: <Window x:Class="MethodAsParameter_01.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Loaded="Window_Loaded" Title="MainWindow" Height="350" Width="525"> <Grid> <ScrollViewer> <StackPanel Name="Root" Orientation="Vertical" ButtonBase.Click="Root_Click" /> </ScrollViewe

How to force web method to call another method by default

Weird Exception: Method not found: 'Double System.Windows.Controls.ScrollViewer.get_ContentHorizon

Hi guys I have an XBAP application that uses a Xamdatagrid from Infragistics. I have some filtering on this grid, that rebinds after a filter. The problem is, when a user has scrolled to a certain point and then filters, the rebinding causes the grid to scroll to the beginning position of the grid. Now how I solve this is by getting an instance of the ScrollViewer, I get the ScrollViewer.ContentHorizontalOffset and then I do a ScrollViewer.ScrollToHorizontalOffset after it filters.   Now here comes the problem. For 99% of the users of this xbap app, this will work absolutely fine. Most, if not all of the users run exactly the same machines, XP 64 bit with 8GB RAM. The other 1% get the error: Method not found: 'Double System.Windows.Controls.ScrollViewer.get_ContentHorizontalOffset()'. I cannot reproduce this error on my own box, our dev server or our production server, it is a phantom exception that only pops up on a certain condition. I have even wrapped the "offending" code in a try catch and it still doesn't solve it. If I set the DispatcherUnhandledExceptionArgs Handled to true, it works, but it doesn't feel right. How is this possible? If the method doesn't exist, how can it compile? Why does that method exist for 99% of the other users running the exact same machines? I have googled my fingers raw without any valid results and this issue is frustrat
