Understanding the normal flow between multiple controllers (mvc 1.0)

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
I am building a medium to large application with ASP.NET MVC 1.0 (we'll upgrade to the latest after we meet some schedule commitments). The application contains a number of workflows, with a separate controller for each workflow, and the home controller owning the main page of the application. So, I end up with the home page, on which the user makes selections and then clicks one of a number of action buttons to proceed down a given workflow. For a given workflow, I seem to have the following flow between controllers:homeController (home view) --> action-button --> workflowController --> homeController (completion view)I figure the action-button does a post to the home controller, which the selections the user made are saved to session state in the appropriate model. The workflowController will handle things as the user moves through one or more views specific to the workflow, but then things end on a common completion page.My question(s):1 - Is this a reasonable way to break up responsibilities amoung multiple controllers?2 - How do I actual accomplish the hand-off to the workflow specific controller? I'd really like to avoid a redirect and the attendent round trip to the browser since controller structure is really an internal implementation issue and shouldn't impose a performance penalty on the user.3 - Is it possible to pass a model from the originatin

Data flow task with multiple destinations randomly hangs

I have a package whose control flow consisting of a single data flow task with multiple destinations continues to hang at random locations.  The data flow task is fairly simple: - One OLE DB source (one query of selecting about 10 fields from one table) - 9 lookups that serve basically as left joins to capture which data "drops off" (does a row redirect on on lookup errors to an "error flow") - Two destinations: one the captures all the data that doesn't drop off from the lookups, and another to capture the data that does drop off; these write to two tables unrelated to each other, and unrelated to any of the tables I'm reading from I have tried the following: - Changed one or both destinations from OLE DB to flat file -- still randomly hangs - Removed both destinations altogether -- this always suceeds.   - Removed destination A and leave destination B -- this always succeeds - Removed destination B and leave destination A -- this always succeeds I took great care in making sure I get no warnings when the package runs, even resolving the unneeded column warnings, and the duplicate keys on all my lookups, but it still hangs. However, once I give up and stop the package, the following error is thrown (among others that appear to be a byproduct of the root issue): Error: 0xC02020C4 at Data Flow Task, OLE_SRC AP12 [1]: The attempt to

Flow Chart - Multiple FlowSteps from an activity to other activities

A custom activity called "Number" which is used to set value of a variable.
A custom activity called "Add" which is used to add two numbers.

Drag and drop "Number" activity to the flowchart.Name the activity to Number1.Set the value to 5.
Drag and drop another "Number" activity to the flowchart.Name the activity to Number2.Set the value to 10.

Make the connections in this way

"Add" activity should automatically check its inputs(Number1 = 5 ,Number2 = 10) from the arrows and do the computation to give result 15.

How it can be achieved using FlowChart elements by writing custom activities for the arrow,Number,Add?

Please let me know if the question is not clear.

Multiple database support with Entity Framework

One of the features introduced in Entity Framework is being database independent. Which mean each database provider can support Entity Framework by implementing its provider.

This feature allows you build applications independent from the underplaying database provider. In this post I'm going to show how to build an application that support multiple databases using same conceptual model made by Entity Framework.

Multiple Column Dropdownlist for the ASP.NET DataGrid

Based on my previous control "Multiple Column DropDownList for ASP.NET", I received many emails asking for the same control to be used in the DataGrid for web applications. Here we go.. This control can be used as the regular MS DropDownList in the DataGrid and also as a regular dropdownlist. It has all the properties, like DataTextField, DataValueField, DataSource, SelectedIndex etc. The download file contains the samples both in VB.NET and C#. In this sample, I have used the Northwind database of SQL Server.

ASP.NET Multiple Selection DropDownList with AJAX HoverMenuExtender

Recently, I was looking for a multiple selection dropdownlist control for my new project. After spending some time researching for it, I decided to put together all my finding in one web user control. This web user control consists of an ASP.NET AJAX HoverMenuExtender, JavaScript, StyleSheet and CheckBoxListExCtrl . The final product will work with or without a MasterPage and you can drag and drop more than one instances of the control on to the page.

Multiple Instances of User Control

I have a user control that I place on a page severl times.  When I make a selection on a ddl in one one control the SelectedIndexChanged event fires for all the control on the page for that ddl.  So I get duplication of an insert that I do.  Is there a way to make sure these events are isolated so this doesn't happen.

>>>How to update multiple rows of gidview by one click

I want to add multiple rows of a gridview if the data for multiple fields are same.

Idea for this is that a user may search a record with some parameter e.g. Sector, plot.

For example 15 records being displayed in gridview.

There should be checkbox before every row and if user wants to update Plot and Flat No that is same for 10 rows out of 15 so he will check the rows and update.

For this a dialog box should appear asking for the parameter i.e. Plot and Flat or something else next time may be it will be City or country. Moreover, there is already an Edit button to update records, when user click it another page open for the record to be updated and whatever he wants to update, it updates.

Hope everone understand the scenario.

I don't want to disturb the already provided Edit functionality and want to provide same record to be updated.

Any idea in this regard would be appreciated.

partial view, 2 controllers

This is my first visit to the forums, I hope someone here can help me

I'm writing a small webapplication for creating repair tickets and adding comments, really basic

now I'm writing this in MVC2

So I have 2 controllers, 1 HomeController that does everything related to the tickets (listing tickets, creating new ones, editing) and 1 controller for the comments

the edit view for the homecontroller contains a partial view for /comment/create

so /home/edit/ticketnumber can edit the title and status of the ticket on the left side of the screen, the right side of the screen contains the partial view for adding comments

this is done like this:

Html.Renderaction("Create", "Comment");

but if I look at the generated html code when running the app, both save buttons go to /home/edit/ticketnumber

so the comment is never saved.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help me solve this

Multiple membership providers

In my web.config I have:

        <add name="ADProvider1"
        <add name="ADProvider2"

If I just have ADProvider1 it works, when I add ADProvider2, even though for testing I only use ADProvider1 I get an error: "Unable to establish secure connection with the server"

Am I adding the second provider to the membership section incorrectly?
