Search request unable to connect to the Search Service.

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

I have searched through other similiar topics and have not been able to get it working again properly. I've tried deleting the Search Service account out and all associated information and created a new one. My crawl logs show that they are successfull and that I have content available in my local sites, as well as my people listed. I have disabled loopback checks, given the default content access account owner access on the databases. Everytime I do a search, I get that error message listed as the subject. I'm running a 4 server farm setup with 1 DB, 1 App, and 2 WFE's. Everything was working fine and now I can't get back working right. I have hammering at it all day and need some additional input of where to look. I'm no SharePoint expert by any means, but I'm slowly getting used to everything. Please help!

Error: The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.

When attempting a search, I get the the error message "The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service. "  The search sevice has been started in Central Administration.  Does anyone have suggesting as to how to troubleshoot this issue?   Thank you in advance for your help.

The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.

I recently ran out of space using WS 3.0 and I used Microsoft KB to move the 3 databases (Admin_Content, Config and Search). That took care of the space problem but now i receive this error message every time we perform a search.

In Event Viewer I have several errors: mostly:

  • ID 10039 Retry of query machine 'BACKUPSERVER' has failed with error: The system cannot find the file specified.   0x80070002.  It will be retried again in 120 seconds. Component: 304be312-beec-4f60-98cc-3698c9a54dd
  • ID 10040 The last query machine has been taken out of rotation.  Check previous event logs to determine cause.  Propagation may be necessary. Component: 304be312-beec-4f60-98cc-3698c9a54ddd
  • ID 10038 Query machine 'BACKUPSERVER' has been taken out of rotation due to this error: The system cannot find the file specified.   0x80070002.  It will be retried in 15 seconds. Component: 304be312-beec-4f60-98cc-3698c9a54ddd

All SP services are running.

Any help will be great.

Thank you

Search Web Service : The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service

Hi,

Following is my code for seraching using spsearch.asmx.

string keywordString = "Microsoft";

//The XML string containing the query request information
//for the Web service
string queryXMLString = "<QueryPacket xmlns='urn:Microsoft.Search.Query'>"+
"<Query><SupportedFormats><Format revision='1'>"+
"urn:Microsoft.Search.Response.DocumentBig Smileocument</Format>"+
"</SupportedFormats><Context><QueryText language='en-US' type='STRING'>"+
keywordString + "</QueryText></Context></Query></QueryPacket>";

WSspsearch.QueryService wsSPSearch = new WSspsearch.QueryService();
wsSPSearch.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
wsSPSearch.Url = "http://server:3838/_vti_bin/spsearch.asmx";
string queryResultsString = wsSPSearch.Query(queryXMLString);
TextBox1.Text = queryResultsString;

I am getting following error:
<ResponsePacket xmlns="urn:Microsoft.Search.Response">
<Response domain=""><Status>ERROR_NO_RESPONSE</Status>
<DebugErrorMessage>The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.

Search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component

I encounter the error above when trying to set up Sharepoint Server Search. I have tried both setting up search manually through Central admin (just selecting default for everything) as well as through Powershell (using this: http://stsadm.blogspot.com/2009/12/creating-sharepoint-2010-enterprise.html). I'm using the farm admin as Search account as well as account for Application pools, so I guess permissions should not be the issue.Creating new Search service application seems to be successful, but when going to Searchadministration after creation, then System status displays the error above. Event log does add any info and just displays same error message ("SearchApi.cs throws exception:The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component 'db397ab0-d9b0-46c4-9077-dc8be62bf586' in search application 'TNS Enterprise Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again."). I have found this http://blog.fpweb.net/sharepoint-2010-server-search-troubleshooting/ stating that the solution is not to use MSDN version of Windows 2008, but does give any explanation why.Any ideas would be appriciated.Best regardsThomas

The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component

I'm expierencing this error message and am not sure what to do to fix this.  I don't want to break anything else on our farm.   The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '9139bef7-69a3-4125-9d0e-e09484cc24ee' in search application 'Search Service Application' is in a good state and try again. Nothing appears under topology.  It just continues to load.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component.

I just installed the FAST Content Search Service Application.  However, when going to Application Management -> Manage Service Application -> FAST Content SSA, I see the following error:

Clicking on Content sources brings me to

Unable to search Custom User Property Created in User Profiles in SharePoint 2010

Hi ,

I have created a custom user property,and created metadata property and added mapping to it, still i m not able to Search in People,Please advise

"Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try ..."

i have a problem with search function where everytime i search any file/doc the error message "Your search cannot be completed because of a service error. Try your search again or contact your administrator for more information." occurred. I realized that there are items in central admin but it is "not available" in my site. I already follow several guides that had been provided in this forum but still the same. Even, i already create new SSP and configure the search scope, content source and also crawling.

FYI, i used Microsoft Sharepoint 2007.

Hope anyone could help me to solve this problem. Thanks.

How do I search a SUBSITE using the spsearch Web service in WSS 3.0?

I have figured out how to access the spsearch web service API, and created a query packet like this:

<QueryPacket xmlns='urn:Microsoft.Search.Query'>
  <Query>
    <Context>
      <QueryText>bees</QueryText>
    </Context>
  </Query>
</QueryPacket>

However, it's returning results for my home collection.  I need a way to filter for any sub-site collection.  Is this possible?  I have been searching for a couple hours and so far have no clue.  I have tried entering other parameters inside the QueryText field as I see them on my actual SharePoint search, but this method does not work here.

This is not for a "getlistitems" call.  I am calling "spsearch" using the "query" or "queryex" action.  Thanks.

Cannot connect to FAST Search server

From the ULS: Failed to connect to myfastserver.mydomain.com:13391 sp. Error=Failed to initialize session with document engine: Unable to resolve Contentdistributor  [documentsubmitterworkerthread.cpp:132]  d:\office\source\search\native\gather\plugins\contentpi\documentsubmitterworkerthread.cpp Docpush -c sp myfile.txt works fine. And I can do a search from FAST search center and find the new file. Q1: How do I determine if SSL is working correctly between my SP Server and my FAST Search Server? Q2: The FAST Search server has port 13391 open. Does this port also need to be opened on the SP Server or are all communications (crawling etc) made over port 443? Q3: Why does the error refer to d:\office... when this the DVD drive (place FAST was installed from)

SharePoint 2010 Search Service Application: "All Content" scope contains 0 items?

I've encountered a nasty bug in our setup. Our Search Service Application manages to crawl all content just fine. However, the scopes don't work. We've got a total of 570 items currently in our crawl database. 350 of these are of class 'People', and appear in the 'People' scope. The remaining 220 items should appear in 'All Content' as part of the intra (sites, documents etc), however the 'All Content' scope reports 0 items. I've tried the following: -Creating custom scopes (still 0 items) -Recreating the Search Service Application twice -Tried different accounts as the content access account. -Ensuring that the content access accounts do have 'full read policy' -Checked the crawl log for successful content (such as sites and documents). However, despite my efforts I still get 0 items for 'All Content'.  Has anyone else encountered this problem, or do you have any recommendation for us? Currently I don't see any other option than to reinstall everything.
