SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express returns no search results for non-admin users

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
This is going to sound crazy, but anyway... bare with me... I have a SharePoint Search Server 2010 Express (RTM) installed with a crawl account (call it sharepoint_crawl) which has full read permission to an entire site collection of 100,000 documents. I have logged in with this account to make sure it has read access to everything, and it does. I run a full crawl of all documents and allow it to finish. If I try and search the content for an extremely common term (i.e. 50,000+ hits) I get no results. However, if I log in with a site collection admin I do get search results. There are no indexing errors or query errors in either log files or event log. Everything looks like it is working correctly - just no results for non-admins Anyone tripped on this? I have recreated the crawl account and perform a full re-index with the same results. What gets me is that the crawl account does have read permission to the content it is indexing, the content is indexed correctly, but the crawl account cannot get results back. It is as if security-trimming is removing everything. Any ideas?

SharePoint Server 2010 Search - not returning results but crawling without errors

I have created a Search Service Application on a SharePoint Server 2010 (RTM) Farm and used the default Content Source. I started a Full Crawl and it suceeded with no errors etc. I ran it a few times and no issues. But if I go to the Intranet Portal Web Appliaction and do a search for a document that would have been crawled it does not show up in search results...nothing does. I am not getting any errors in Event Log or ULS Logs relevant to Search. Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express

I have Sharepoint 2010 Foundation with Search Server Express installed. The Sharepoint was an upgrade from WSS v3 and search server express 2003.

After the upgrade whenever users search from the main site I get web part errors displayed on the search page. I think because it is trying to use the old search server express which is no longer installed.

Search Server Express 2010 is now installed and a Search Center web page can be viewed however when searching via the entire sites I site the web page with web part errors.

Any thoughts or any further information you require I can provide.

Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

Can I get some clarification on a couple of points?

Firstly, what is the recommended installation path for SPFoundation and Search Server Express on the same server.  Do I just install SSE 2010?  Or SPF 2010 and then SSE 2010?

Secondly, when the two are installed together how do I add the a SSE 2010 search center link to my SPF 2010 site so I can search all crawled content?  I've created crawls of Exchange public folders and file shares but when I use the built-in site search box it's only returning content crawled from the local site and not anything from the other crawls.

Integrating Sharepoint Foundation 2010 and Search Server Express

I've been searching for ways to do this but I haven't come up with anything.  Surely this is a very common need/want.  Basically I want to use Sharepoint Foundation 2010 but I would like to run Search Server Express in the same installation.  Additionally instead of going to a dedicated search page and then searching, I'd like to add the Search Server Express search functionality as a Web Part to the Sharepoint Foundation home page.  Is there any documented procedures to this?  If not how have you done it?

Search in SharePoint 2010 does not show results for all users other than the timer service account

I have setup a new SharePoint 2010 setup. Created Search Service application and configured. Confirmed that the crawl went fine without any error for both Local site and a file share. In the Search application i confirmed that the All Site scope shows 3890 items.

ISSUE: If any of the user [including site collection administrator] browses the site and try to search something it does NOT show result [No error either it says We did not find any results for .....]. All Site scopes does not show 3890 items but only 28.

But if the timer service account [system account] logs in the site and does the search it works fine. With this account loggd in if i check the All Site scopes i do see 3890 items.

This does seems to be some thing to do with the permission, but i am not able to get hint where the mistake is.

I have done the follow till now.

> I checked the application association is correct
> Created a new web application and confirmed that the issue exists there as well
> Checked ULS log but dont see any error related to this.
> No relavent event id in Application event viewer

Please help

Sharepoint 2010 Foundation vs Search Server 2010 Express

Does Search Server 2010 Express include Sharepoint Foundation? Or do I need to install Sharepoint first and then install Search Server on top? This is for a brand new install on a single server.

Search returns no results for non admin users

Hi all, I can't seem to get search to return results for non-admin users. I can search fine as the administrator - but non admin users, although they can see the rest of the site content with no issues, they can't get any results on the search. I'm using MOSS 2007 on a server farm - the search config appears to be set up correctly but I can't find any info on why it might not be returning results for non admins - I would have thought security trimming would have stopped users from seeing content - so is there some way that users would be able to see the site but still not have 'real' access to it?

SharePoint Foundation - Search Server Express 2010 "upgrade" ?

I have an existing install of SP2010 Foundation. Can I just install Search Server Express 2010 on the WFE server and connect it to the existing farm? Or can I "upgrade" SP2010 Foundation to Search Server Express 2010?

problem rename sharepoint 2010 search service application admin database

Hi all, i have a problem that hopefully someone has an answer to.  i am not too familiar with sharepoint so please excuse my ignorance. we have sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008r2 server.  everything seems to work fine.  but as you know, the default database names are horrendous.  i have managed to rename all of them, except for the "search service application" admin database. the default is: Search_Service_Application_DB_<guid> the other 2 databases (crawl and property) were renamed without a problem. we are following the article from technet on how to rename the search service admin db (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-nz/library/ff851878%28en-us%29.aspx).  it says to enter the following command: $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -DatabaseName "new database name" -DatabaseServer "dbserver" however, i get an error about identity being null.  no big deal, i add the -Identity switch and the name of my search service application.  but the real problem comes the error it throws:   Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication : The requested database move was aborted as the associated search application is not paused. At line:1 char:54 + $searchapp | Set-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication <<<<  -Identity "Search Service Application" -DatabaseName "ShareP

Sharepoint 2010 Search No Results

I am unsure about who the Search Services should be running under. I am getting no results returned from Sharepoint after doing full successful crawl. I have not installed Fast Search, just going through the Search box on the site. For Services, I have Sharepoint Server Search 14[Server admin account] and Sharepoint Foundation Search V4[Server admin account] both started. The full crawl only takes about 2 minutes. When I changed the account to [local system] for both of these services, it was still going at 1 hour and 40 minutes when I stopped the crawl. I assume that the local system is not the account to run it under? The site only has about 20 documents on it right now.

Search Server Express 2010 - Access Denied when attempting to manage Search Service Application or P

I first noticed this error with the Search Service Application when I was no longer able to use the search portal, but have since noticed the issue with the PowerPoint Service Application.  When I navigate in Central Administration to either the "Farm Search Administration" or the "Manage service applications" pages and attempt to manage the "Search Service Application", I get this error: Error: Access Denied  Current User You are currently signed in as:  WHEELERS\MyUserName   Sign in as a different user    I have tried removing the service application and re-adding it, changing the application pool to running under an existing application pool as the farm administrator, as another application pool with the same identity as the primary web application, and as another application pool running under the SP-SearchService identity. The big recent change with SharePoint, aside from fixing the previous issue where I was incorrectly using CNAMEs with Kerberos, was to switch the main web application to claims authentication. That site correctly works with claims based authentication and Kerberos.

Search Server 2010 priority of search results

Hello, Environment:  SharePoint Foundations 2010, SQL Server 2008, Search Server 2010 I am looking for some documentation on Search Server 2010.  I would like to know the priority of the search results.  For example is the file name the most important when looking for a document?  Should a title of the document be the same as the file name or is it helpful to add some other key words in the title?  I am aware of the keyword function and I will be using this tool.  However our homebrew search was flooded with keywords which made them almost useless. So far I have searched with Bing, and TechNet.  I have found documentation on the implementation of search server but nothing on how it determines the relevancy of a document to the search query. Thank you for any help you can give me.

SharePoint search server 2010 crawl rules

My client wants to create a number of scopes by crawling specific subsites of a CMS 2.0 site.  The CMS site is crawled as a website and security is ignored (e.g. results are not security trimmed). As an example, they want to create a scope called “Audit”.  This scope will use a content source which crawls all content starting at http://server/services/audit and http://server/wssservices/audit. The first is the CMS 2.0 site, the second is a WSS 3.0 site that contains documents for the CMS site. I setup the content source with start address of http://server/services/audit and http://server/wssservices/audit with the crawl settings set to ‘only crawl within the server of each start address’. Additionally, I have created rule with path http://server/services/audit* and set the configuration to “Include all items in this path”, with “Crawl SharePoint content as http pages” also selected.  I have created rule with path http://server/wssservices/audit* with the same configuration settings, except  “Crawl SharePoint content as http pages” is not selected . I have also performed a full crawl after creating the content source and crawl rules. What I would expect to happen is that only results from http://server/services/audit or documents linked from http://server/wssservices/audit would show i

Search Server 2010 Express databasename GUIDs

I installed SSE 2010 using the "Server Farm" option and default options. I note it created some 9 databases with names like: <normal name>_<GUID> I prefer not to have those GUIDs appear in the name.  It's easy enough to rename the sql databases but what has to be done on the SharePoint side to make it use the renamed databases ?     TIA, Barkingdog
