InfoPath: Turn User Input into XML with Custom Forms Using Office InfoPath 2003

Office InfoPath 2003 is a new Microsoft Office product that lets you design your own data collection forms that, when submitted, turn the user-entered data into XML for any XML-supporting process to use. With an InfoPath solution in place, you can convert all those commonly used paper forms into Microsoft Office-based forms and end the cycle of handwriting and reentering data into your systems. Today organizations are beginning to realize the value of the mountains of data they collect every day, how hard it is to access it, and are striving to mine it effectively. InfoPath will aid in the design of effective data collection systems. Here the author shows you how to get started.

Problem with SharePoint Designer 2007 and Custom List Forms

I created several forms (Create/Edit/View) for a SharePoint list, using Custom List Forms.  I'm using Content Types in the list to ensure that each item only has the necessary fields.  When I created the ASPX forms, and inserted the Custom List Forms, I selected the correct Content Type, and I got the right fields inserted in the form.

Now, for some reason I can't identify, every time I create a new form, and insert a Custom List Form, SPD is bringing ALL fields from the list, instead of just bringing the fields included in the selected Content Type.

I have tried many different things to solve the problem, including creating new lists/content types/forms, etc. but SPD is doing the same thing all the time.

Can somebody tell me what may have gone wrong in SPD or MOSS?

Problems with Custom List Forms in Document Libraries

I have setup several custom list forms for various lists with no issues however when it comes to document libraries a few things dont seem to work correctly. I create a copy of the editform.aspx --> Hide existing web part --> Insert custom list form (edit) --> restyle the fields etc. save it as edit.aspx confirm it is being used as the default form in the supporting files section. Great it appears to work whenever someone uploads a document or clicks edit. However... that is only th first impressions as there are a few issues that crop up at this time.  Clicking the edit button on an existing document doesn't display the Name field, meaning individuals cannot rename a document. After an item is uploaded and the required fields are entered in the form the user then clicks check-in. The library then opens and shows the document is still checked out to that user. Has anyone else experienced these issues before? The critical factor is the checking in a document, as to why this breaks on a custom edit form I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated as under quite a lot of pressure to get this resolved. Chris

Adding Custom Actions to Ribbon UI in InfoPath forms

Hi experts, - I have a custom List in my site. - I have modified the default SharePoint List forms (DispForm.aspx, EditForm.aspx and NewForm.aspx) using InfoPath 2010, changes being related to the layout of input controls. - Then I wish to add a custom action (a print button - for printing based on modified layout) in the Ribbon Control of these InfoPath modified forms (i.e. displayifs.aspx, editifs.aspx, newifs.aspx). - I am doing the following http://www.endusersharepoint.com/2010/02/19/adding-custom-actions-to-the-ribbon-ui-in-sharepoint-2010-using-sharepoint-designer-2010/ but i guess, it only forms for the SharePoint List forms and not the Infopath modified forms. Any suggestions on how to add a custom action of 'Print' on the Ribbon UI of the list forms. Is there any other better approach? Kindly advise. -Pallz.

import data from infopath xml forms to SharePoint list

Hi. I have this issue, a customer has an old application that consists of a SharePoint 2003 site and a 'forms library' with forms listing information about physical servers. The infopath (2003) form is pretty straight forward and has a few dropdowns from lists and so on. Now, we need to move this to 2010 and preferably to a list only using oob functionality. I would like to know if anyone has a clue as to how I can get the data from the hundreds of xml files into a list, could be to excel and then to SharePoint, or any means Necessary. I would prefer it if it can be scripted or done using standard tools from Microsoft, no 3rd party custom xml importer...(if it's not really good and free :-) ) ThanksThomas BalkestÃ¥hl - Technical Specialist - SharePoint

Add a New Item to a Custom Sharepoint List and Sharepoint Calendar from one Infopath form.

I am trying to create an infopath form for requesting time off.  Once the request is approved I want the form to add the event to a calendar on sharepoint.  I was able to do this using the article by S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton at http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2007/programmatically-add-item-sharepoint-calendar-infopath.htm.  But I want the form to also add an item to a custom list that has the employees available time off stored on it.  That way the form can automatically subtract the time entered on the infopath form from what is available on the custom list.  I was able to do this using another article by S.Y.M. Wong-A-Ton at  http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2007/programmatically-add-rich-text-item-sharepoint-list-infopath.htm.  I can make both of these functions happen seperately but I need them to happen on the same Infopath form.  I am using Infopath and MOSS 2007.  I have tried to use 2 CAML receive data files and I treid to co

Custom Webpart in Default forms of a list not coming in new list created by using List Template in S

I added a custom webpart in default editform.aspx of a list and saved it as a template in Sharepoint 2010. Now when I am trying to create a new list by using this custom list template I am not getting the custom webpart in the editform.aspx. Only default form is coming.

Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Adding custom help to browser based Infopath forms

We are developing a browser-based application with Infopath 2010 forms.  We would like to provide buttons that pop up a separate browser window containing an HTML help page, which would be stored in a SharePoint Wiki.  I understand it is not possible to call JavaScript from a browser form, which was the initial thought.

What other approaches are there for providing custom help in Infopath?

Creating a Custom List Definition that uses InfoPath Form

I have created a custom list definition in Visual Studio 2010.  By default it is using the out of the box "pages\form.aspx" for the New/Edit/Display form rendering.

I am just wondering if it is possible to use an InfoPath form as default for the New/Edit/Display form?

I have tried to create a custom list with custom info path form thru the UI, and export the site as WSP.  I have analysed the files and notice a few things:

1.) I need to add a XmlDocument section in the Schema.xml for displayifs/editifs/newifs.aspx

2.) I need to provision the xsn in "Lists/{List Name}/Item"

3.) I need to provision the *ifs.aspx in "Lists/{List Name}/Item"

As you see, some of the settings required the {List Name}.  That's mean I can't really create a list definition that is reusable because I need to know the List Name before hand. Is there any way to specify the path with some kind of variable instead of static list name?

Furthermore, I notice that the "Developer" tab is missing from the Ribbon when I modify form, hence I can do any code behind.  Is this a limitation, or is there a workaround?

InfoPath forms and custom Ribbon

I would customize the ribbion from the "new item" and "edit item"-form of my custom list. It works when I create new "custom Actions" via the SharePoint Designer. The ribbon location is by default "Ribbon.ListForm.Edit.Commit.Controls._children" so far so good.

I have by default the "NewForm.aspx", "EditForm.aspx" and "DeleteForm.aspx" files. Now i customized the forms in InfoPath to have a better look and created some rules and so on. After publish, "newifs.aspx", "editifs.aspx", "deleteifs.aspx" were create and I deleted the old (NewFrom etc).

But now the ribbon location is changed to "Ribbon.Tabs.InfoPathListDisplayTab.*" (seen in Browser by FireBug). I tryed to switch the ribbion location in the custom action via SP Designer to "Ribbon.Tabs.InfoPathListDisplayTab.Commit.Controls._children" without success.

Know anybody where the definition "Ribbon.Tabs.InfoPathListDisplayTab" comes from? In CMDUI.xml she isn't..

And how can I append custom actions in the ribbon to published infoPath forms?

Thanks edel

Deploying Custom List forms using features

I have created a custom list form for my custom list ( CourseInfo.aspx).  Everything works fine.  I now want to create a feature that will deploy the new form.  Is this possible ?

I have create a feature that will create my list def and also an instance of the list.  I have added the new form to the same folder as the other list forms for the list.  I have also added changed the scheme.xml to reference the new list form as follows

However the file is never deployed.  Am I missing something here.

Is what I am trying possible ?

Any Help would be appreciated.

Infopath will not allow to customize list forms if the list contains lookup fields with "link to ite

I am posting this here, because the error message is a little misleading: It will say that you may have an incompatible field types, corrupt fields, or fields are mandatory and should not be. As a remedy it's suggested to either make them non-mandatory fields or to delete them and recreate them.

Solution: Just lookup to your field without the "link to item" option.
