How to apply Seervice pack(sp3) on a Cluster

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I have followed this for more than 40 Clusters of 2 nodes to apply SQL server 2005 Service pack 3. For avoiding the risk of installation issues affecting Primary node for non - cluster aware SQL Server services or components, we will start from passive (secondary) node. Pre Installation checks-----------------------------1.  Access passive cluster node using mstsc /console 2.  Access cluadmin tool and perform fail over from active to passive node 3.  Make sure that all services are working correctly 4.  Perform fail back for all resources to primary node. This will ensure that we have tested that failover is working and we are back to primary node. 5. Run dbcc checks against all databases. This will ensure that we do not have any consistency issue before upgrade. 6.  Put “application group” into offline mode (if there are any) Installation------------------------------ 7.  Make sure that nobody else is already connected to this cluster via RDP 8.  Install sp3 9.  Once done, reboot this(passive) node. 10. Failover to passive node. 11. Do the health check such as run DBCC Checkdb, review Errorlog and install log, ) and version check. 12. Try to connect other services such as Integration services etc. 12. Failback to Primary node. 13  Remote Desktop to (active) primary node using mstsc /console  14. Install SP3 15. Fail

Apply custom.master to "Site Settings" page?

I'm using a custom.master page, which is applied to almost all pages available to READ users.

However, I'd like to apply it to the Search, Site Settings, and View All Site Content pages.

I'm not sure where this would be applied.

Guidance much appreciated. Thanks!

.NET4, DataGrid doesn't apply EditingElementStyle with ValidatesOnExceptions when catching an excep

Hello everyone, I'm using WPF and the .NET 4 framework (4.3.30319), on the Windows 7 32-bit OS. I wanted to keep things simple with validation and my property setter just throws an ArgumentException when the data is not valid, instead of implementing a ValidationRule class. While this worked with a ListBox, it seems it doesn't with a DataGrid. Below is a simple example to reproduce the problem, check the XAML and C# code related to the 2nd column. The datagridTBStyle is meant to apply a specific style when an error occurs (since control templates are out of the question with DataGrid), but what I see is: it applies the correct style when editing the cell (blue text) it doesn't apply the part that is supposed to trigger on Validation.HasError (red on yellow background + tooltip) Without this style, it doesn't apply a red border around the cell as it should according to the documentation. However, it does put a part of red exclamation mark in the row header when an error occurs, and it catches the exception. Am I doing something wrong, or is this actually a bug? Link to the documentation. <Window x:Class="DataGridTest.MainWindow" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Test" Height="200" Width="350&q

Direct2D Dependencies on Non Develpment cluster

Hello all,I developed an application in Direct2D and referred Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.DirectX.Controls.dll and Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.DirectX.dll DLLs. Development has been done in VS2008. SQLServer 2008 Tools and SQL 2005 Cluster

I recently built a SQL Server 2005 cluster on the o/s Windows Server 2008 R2.  I have been attempting to connect to the cluster from my Windows 7 dekstop with my SQL Server 2008 Tool set.  I have been unable to attach to this cluster since its creation. The firewall is temp off, remote connections in the surface area configuration is set to pipes and tcp/ip and the Browser surface is up and running. I ran Wireshark against the cluster and I could see that there was UDP conversations for ms-sql-m (SQL Port) but that was as far as it would get.  I am using a named instance so not using 1433, but I do see the cluster offering up high RPC ports but the client never responds after the initial UDP response. When I noticed that there was a two way conversation taking place, I went to a seperate machine and fired up SQL Server 2005 Tools and I was easily able to attach to the cluster.  So my question is - Are there any known incompatibilities between SQL Server 2005 cluster services and SQL Server 2008 Tool set?  I can use my 2008 tools to attach to a non-clustered SQL Server 2005 w/o issue.   Error when attempting to connect: A network-related or instance-specific error occured while establishing a connection to sql server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.  Verify that the instance name is correct and the SQL Server is con

XQUERY using Cross Apply and Outer Apply

Trying to shred XML into relational table rows and can do it for one set of node values .. having difficulty creating a pair of columns. The relevant part of the XML looks like this ... <ns:Coverage>      <ns:CoverageCd>cvalue1</ns:CoverageCd>      <ns:Form>           <ns:FormNumber>fvalue1</ns:FormNumber>      </ns:Form> </ns:Coverage> I can successfully navigate through the XML and pull back a set of rows for all values of CoverageCd. Now I'm trying to add a column to each output row for the FormNumber value associated with the CoverageCd value. However; FormNumber is not always present. I found an example where using 'Outer Apply' can account for that, but it's not working for me. Here's my XQuery: WITH XMLNAMESPACES('http://www.mycompanyname.com/ACORD1.11.0/Policy_1.0/xml' AS "ns") select cov.i.value('.', 'varchar(30)')   [Coverage],          form.i.value('.', 'varchar(30)')  [FormNumber] from  dbo.mytablename        cross apply XMLcolumn.nodes('.//ns:Coverage/ns:CoverageCd') as cov(i)        outer apply cov.i.nodes('.//ns:Coverage/ns:Form/ns:FormNumber) as form(

SQL Server 2005 - Installation in Cluster Environment - "Service SQL Server Browser (SQLBrowser) fai

Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 32-bit All updates and patches installed Two-node cluster environment configured. Cluster functions perfectly. Trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (32-bit) as a clustered application. Installation proceeds fine until it begins to install the SQL Server Database Services product. Status window says "Starting Services. Service: SQL Server Browser". Error message is presented: "Service 'SQL Server Browser' (SQLBrowser) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services". SQL Server Service Account is in the Administrators group on both local systems, and is a domain account. Account used for the installation is in the Administrators group on both local systems, and is a domain account. Have cancelled out of the install and rebooted both servers numerous times. Exact same error continues to occur. Cluster is active and all resources are owned by node #1 - the node where SQL Server Installation is being run. In the event viewer, I see: Event ID: 10 Description: The SQLBrowser service was unable to establish SQL instance and connectivity discovery". I am also seeing errors like: Source: SQLBrowser. The SQL configuration for SQL is inaccessible or invalid. Source: SQLBrowser. The Configuration of the AdminConnection\TCP protocol in the SQL instance xxxxxx i

SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update is successful but repeats installin

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) (update 1 of 1) This update seems to be stuck in a loop of installing, each time it successfull installs acccording to automatic updates. Then says it requires installing again straight away. This has been happening for 10 days now. I have tried a manual update from the website rather than automatic updates, no change. Any ideas why? Have posted in Windows update which is where I think the problem lies but they have suggested I post here also.

Reinstalled SQL 2005 on cluster won't start.

OS: Windows Server 2003 32-bit. Cluster: 2-node Active/Passive We're working on upgrading from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008, and we're using this cluster to test the cluster upgrade/install procedures. So, updated the existing SQL 2005 instance to SQL 2008. This went fine. Added an additional SQL 2008 instance. This went fine. Uninstalled SQL 2008 (both instances) from both nodes. This went fine. Installed SQL 2005 (clustered setup). At the end of the install process, received a message about unable to do (something). However, the install reported successful. In the SQL0001_<computername>_Core(local) are these messages: Running: OpenPipeAction at: 2010/7/24 10:20:31 Complete: OpenPipeAction at: 2010/7/24 10:20:31, returned false Error: Action "OpenPipeAction" failed during execution. and much later: Error: Action "UninstallForRS2000Action" failed during execution.  Error information reported during run: Action: "UninstallForRS2000Action" will be marked as failed due to the following condition: In the SQL0001_<computername>_Core.log: Running: LaunchLocalBootstrapAction at: 2010/7/24 10:11:30 Error: Action "LaunchLocalBootstrapAction" threw an exception during execution.  Error information reported during run: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\setup.exe" finished and returned: 0 Aborting que
