Need Information on pulling data from Oracle Source to SQL Server

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hi,   I was told that we will be extracting data from Oracle database and loading into SQL Server Database. I will be developing packages on the Remote Server where SQL Server is installed. I mean I wont be developing anything on my local machine. This is the first time I will be writing a package to extract data from Oracle database and my knowledge on Oracle is zero.   Could someone list out  what all I need to do to extract data from Oracle database ?  Server that I will be working is new and nothing is installed on that except the SQL Server 2008.

How to save Windows credentials to a data source in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 using Visual

I am trying to create a shared data source for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 that uses a specific Windows user ID and password to connect to the database. Using the Report Manager web interface, if I create a shared data source and specify "Credentials stored securely in the report server", I can check the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. This tells SSRS that the user ID and password I specify are from a Windows user, not a SQL Server user. I want to create the shared data source using Visual Studio though. In Visual Studio I have an option to use stored credentials but there is no equivalent of the "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" checkbox. SSRS always assumes that user and password are for a SQL Server user, not a Windows user, and thus the connection fails. Does anyone know how to tell Visual Studio that the stored credentials are for a Windows user?

Analysis Services Using Oracle as a Data Source Data Types mismatch System.Int32 and System.Int64

Hi everyone, I searched for this issue but there is only 4 questions about it in this forum from 2007 I hope that someone can help me. Im usign SASS 2008 using a Oracle as a datasource.  I already have my fact tables linked with dimensions, lets say, FACTID System.Int64 with DIMENSIONID System.Int64 (My dimensions are replaced by named querys and work perfectly) I add a new table to my DSV and the NEWDIMENSIONID looks like System.Int64, but at the moment I replace the table with a named query (I have to use Oracle quering) the NEWDIMENSIONID changes to System.Int32 .  After that I cant relate the fact table with the dimension table. Actions: Looked for the columns that relate from Oracle... both are NUMBER(5). Looked for the differences between my other tables that are already related as System.Int64 and there is not a single difference between the ones that works and the one who doesnt. Solutions Ive tried and didnt work: 1. Cast the column as SQL query didnt work it send an error.  Looks kind of obvious because we are quering Oracle... but I had to try.  CAST( X AS BIGINT) 2. Cast the column as Oracle query . TO_NUMBER 3. Do it inside the server using the Analysis Services Enterprise insted of my Analysis Services Developer. Same issue.   Any ideas? suggestions?   Please? Thank you very much ;) Sincerly Adriana L. PS. At the begging of

can't create oracle data source

I'm trying to create an Oracle data source object, using Sharepoint Designer 2010, and getting nothing but vague errors.

Here's what I'm doing:

1. In Data Source Library I tried to establish a new database connection.

2. Checkmark the "Use custom connection string"

3. Selected "Microsoft .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle" OR "Microsoft .NET Framework Data Provider for OLE DB" and specified the Connection String as

Data Source=<<TNS ENTRY>>;User Id=<<>>;Password=<<>>;Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle

4. After defining the string I clicked Ok.

5. After click Next it gives the message “The selected authentication option saves the user name and password as clear text in the data connection. Other authors of this website can access this information.”

6. I clicked on Ok and it gives me the message “Server Error: An error occurred while retrieving the list of table from root database. The query you are trying to execute contains syntax errors.”

7. The "Select Database and Table, View, or Stored Procedure" step comes up, with a Database of "root", and no tables listed.

Does a "root" table have any meaning in Oracle? Why aren't I getting a list o

Server Explorer Data Connection to ORACLE in VS2008 on Vista x64?

How do I set up a connection to an ORACLE database from Visual Studio 2008's Server Explorer in Vista x64?

If I install the 32-bit ORACLE client, I can configure a Data Connection in Server Explorer, but I can't use it to connect to the database because I can't setup a DSN in the Control Panel (the Oracle provider doesn't show up because it's a 64-bit OS).

If I install the 64-bit ORACLE client, I can configure a DSN in Control Panel, but I can't configure a Data Connection in Server Explorer, because VS2008 is a 32-bit app and throws a BadImageFormatException when it tries to load the 64-bit OCI.

Is there a way to do this without moving to a 32-bit development environment?

Issue with multi valued parameters in SSRS using Oracle data source

Hi All,

I have a dataset which is getting data from oracle datasource and my Dataset query expression is

="select To_Char(Time_Stamp,'Month') as Month, Node_Name as Device,Connection,MSNAME,Monitor,Avg as Average,Max as Maximum FROM OracleDataVW where ((monitor='X' and msname in ('Y')) or (MONITOR = 'CPU Utilization' AND MSNAME = 'utilization')) and TO_Char(Time_Stamp,'Mon YYYY') in  ('"+ Join(Parameters!Parameter1.Value,",") +"')"

My parameter is multiValued parameter. The above query is working good if i select one value, however if select more than one value or all it is not giving me the data. I tried to put Ltrim and Rtrim in Join but it is giving me another syntax error.

Please help me with this

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

Accessing SharePoint 2010 Data with Server-Side APIs
