Sharepoint Foundation - Create and deploy custom edit/view forms for external lists

Firstly, we are using sharepoint foundation so Infopath forms are not an option for us.

We have a Visual Studio sharepoint project which deploys a complete sharepoint site. The site contains a number of external lists and we want to be able to create customised view/edit forms for these lists and add them to our Visual Studio project so they can be deployed as part of the new site. The idea is that we can deploy the solution to a fresh site with a default set of forms which can then be customised for different implementations of the site.

Here's the steps we have been using to try and do this:

1. Deploy the base project (BDC) to the sharepoint site

2. Create external lists based on the BDC content types

3. Use Sharepoint Designer to create new edit/view forms for the lists and set these as the default forms for the list

3. Save the site as a template

4. Import the template into a new Visual Studio project and select the lists we require. This gives us a List Definition, a pages module (with element file), an elements file and a schema file (both for the List Instance).

5. We then add the contents of the imported project to our main solution as follows:

  • Create a new List Definition (including List Instance)
  • Copy the contents of the imported Elements.xml to the Elements file for our List Instance.

Duplicate column names from forms in SharePoint lists

I'm in the process of migrating from a WSS 2 site to WSS 3/MOSS. On the old site I used an Infopath 2003 form for absence requests. During the migration I now use Infopath 2007. There wasn't any problem initially when the form was stored with the SharePoint form library. However, when I published the form as a content type from Infopath 2007 and then added that content type to the form library, there are two columns for each piece of data from the form. (One from the content type and one from the form list.) I relinked each old form (list content type) to the new AbsenceRequest content type and removed the original one from the list. However, the duplicate column names are still there. Since they came from the Infopath form, they are not editable or deletable from the SharePoint list management interface. The duplicate column names make it tough to build views since it isn't apparent which column to use in the form building UI. It can be determined form the overview display, but it is very cumbersome.

Does anyone know a way to get rid of the old, absolute, columns?

Problem with SharePoint Designer 2007 and Custom List Forms

I created several forms (Create/Edit/View) for a SharePoint list, using Custom List Forms.  I'm using Content Types in the list to ensure that each item only has the necessary fields.  When I created the ASPX forms, and inserted the Custom List Forms, I selected the correct Content Type, and I got the right fields inserted in the form.

Now, for some reason I can't identify, every time I create a new form, and insert a Custom List Form, SPD is bringing ALL fields from the list, instead of just bringing the fields included in the selected Content Type.

I have tried many different things to solve the problem, including creating new lists/content types/forms, etc. but SPD is doing the same thing all the time.

Can somebody tell me what may have gone wrong in SPD or MOSS?

Unable to Customize Custom Lists. Sharepoint Error: User cannot be found.

I am not sure what the best way to put/describe my issue . I am unable to customize my custom list. Steps: 1. Login to sharepoint site. 2. Site Actions -> Site Settings 3. Under Site Administration -> Site Libraries and lists 4. Clicked on a custom list.   Error: Error User cannot be found.   Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Custom masterpage Layout works fine, but WIDE sharepoint lists flow through, over design

Hello all, and thanks in advance for any help. We've built a custom masterpage layout and so far it works great.  We have specified a layout based on tables that fix the width at 960pixels.  The tables are centered on the screen and have a particular background that is different from the page's background to make the content pop.  It works fine in most cases and still displays all MOSSs dynamic contents like the quicklaunch bar at left, etc.  The theme sort of looks like this : http://www.sharepointpackages.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=268&zenid=a045f5b7dba91fdab94d754569e0b611 The problem is that when a list has too many columns and is therefore wider than the 700 or so pixels that are left over for the placeholders inside the table, the list continues on, but does not affect the table itself.  In other words it appears as if the content was placed OVER the tables in the layout.  This is odd first of all, but it is actually bad in a way, because even if I use styles on the table cells that hold these placeholders, and have the overflow use scrolls, the table ACTUALLY does not see an overflow and the contents continue to run through without activating the scrollbars (they don't even show up).  Can anyone help.  Please, Please, I've been looking at HTML for two days straight now trying to fi

Custom SharePoint forms with some dynamic behaviour

Hello all,

I have this challenge: I need to create custom SharePoint forms with some dynamic behaviour, without programming(no Javascript, C#, ...)  Background: this form would be used to report expenses and the number of invoices is variable.

We're limiting the options for the solution, because we currently lack the programming skills to develop and maintain the code.  So we wanted to test the ability of SPD to solve our particular business situation.  InfoPath is being considered, but is not yet available to us.

I had thought about using a dropdown control (ASP or SharePoint) to select from a list the number of invoices to report.  Then I'd take the selected number as a parameter to conditionally display the necessary fields (date1, amount1, description1, date2, amount2, description2, etc.).

I also need to save the selected number of invoices as part of the expense report, because I can use it in a SPD workflow as part of my process control.

What I have found is the following:

* If I use an ASP dropdown, I can convert the selected number into a parameter and have a "dynamic form" but then I don't have a way to save the number selected in one of the fields (columns) of the expense report.

* If I use a SharePoint dropdown, I can save the number selected in the dropdown, be

Sharepoint Lists and Outlook Sync: Custom Lists Sync

Hello SharePoint Gurus,

I have been assigned this new task where I am required to integrate Microsoft Outlook with custom SharePoint site. Unlike a calendar or tasks list, I need to integrate contact information in the outlook contact directory. According to this post there is no provision to achieve this. But in case somebody out there guide me on this and let me know a possibility which can facilitate me in this regard.

Looking forward to hear from you guys.

SharePoint Designer - custom forms - DateTime fields

Whenever I create a new custom display form using SharePoint Designer the DateTime fields display value using wrong format and the time is not correct.

For example:
Default display form: 29/03/2011 11:39
Custom display form: 2011-03-29T10:39:17Z
(not only different format, but also different time)

Why is that and how can I display correct date and time using the correct format?

"Launch forms in a dialog" setting is ignored for custom lists deployed with a feature

Hi folks!

I have a custom list (schema.xml) deployed with a feature. The list has custom new, edit and view forms defined in the schema.xml.

Every time i create, edit or view an item the form is displayed in a modal dialog. I tried to set tha "Launch forms in a dialog" to "No" in the Advanced Settings of the list, I also tried to set this property programmatically (SPList.NavigateForFormsPages), and I also tried to set it directly in the schema.xml.

With no success. My forms are still launched in dialogs! For other lists I create in the SP GUI this settings works as expected. Does anybody encounter the same problem and know a workarround??

Displaying SharePoint lists in Web Parts

When you create a built-in or custom list in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, Windows SharePoint Services creates a Web Part, a basic building block of a SharePoint site, to display that list. These Web Parts are called List View Web Parts. Windows SharePoint Services stores List View Web Parts in the site collection Web Part gallery. (The site collection Web Part gallery is the most central gallery of Web Parts for a work group. By default, the gallery name is the name of the site, such as "Our Team Site Web Part Gallery." )

SharePoint Tutorial - Lists

A list is a feature in SharePoint that stores a lists of information. For example, a list can be created to store web links in the human resources team site. A list is usually created for a specific type of information. Lists can contain metadata to describe the particular information in more detail and to make it easier to find.

Write Custom WebParts for SharePoint 2007

The popularity of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 led Microsoft to tightly integrate the next SharePoint version, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, with its ASP.NET 2.0 WebPart framework. This tight integration enables the ASP.NET and SharePoint developer to do a number of things that previously weren't possible
