unable to Edit Page in newly created subsites Moss2007

I have created new subsites and trying to create a page, but it shows access denied error.

Eventhough i have logged in as site collection administrator and given access as full control for subsite and also tried giving master page and style library read access.

when i click on create page, I can enter the page name and after that it shows ACCESS DENIED . but the page is physically created and unable to edit....

I've a simple web part in which i'm creating a sub site within my site collection.

I'm creating this site based on publishing template. 

I've created some custom page layouts (using designer) that are already deployed on my site. 

now when i'm creating a new site based on publishing template, i want one of my page layouts to be associated with this new site.

I really don't have any idea how to do it? So need your help in this regard.

I am able to open the site (SPS 2010) using Sharepoint Designer 2010. When I browse to the master page, I can check it out and when I try to edit, it gives me a message saying that it is trying to build the report. But nothing happens even if I wait for hours.

I am trying to edit the master page so that I can change the top banner and to provide mouse-over text for the sites. I would really appreciate if anyone could provide any advice to get around this.

I am also curios about one thing. For some reason, I am unable to open the site using sharepoint designer if I try to open the site via http. But I am able to open the https site. Does it have to do anything with alternate access mappings?

Please advise.

I am coding a .cs file that handles the metadata for a particular table. I am putting a custom validation that allows me to update or insert only if the PubMedID is not already in the database. This would be easy except that the PMID should also be allowed to be null as some of the references in the database were not from PubMed. So i perform a query on the database to see if there is already an identical PMID in the database. This works great when using Insert. However, when using Edit, it does not. The PMID is already in the database because the one currently being edited has the same PMID!!! So I know exactly how to change my query etc. However, I do not know how to tell from inside this Edit/Insert agnostic page, which one it is being called from. Thanks for your help!

I have created a custom user property,and created metadata property and added mapping to it, still i m not able to Search in People,Please advise

I have created a new web part page and added a document library to that page.  In the ribbon the "Edit Properties" icon is enabled and I can edit the document properties.

When I add another web part to the page and go back to select a document, on the ribbon the "Edit Properties" icon is no disabled.  I can still edit the document using the context menu of the document.

Permissions on the library did not change when I added the additional web part.  The only change to the page was adding an additional web part.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction re troubleshooting. We have a MOSS server farm - 3 WFE 1 APP 1 SQL cluster. All Server 2008 sp1 x64. We see occasional http timeouts (HttpException (0x80004005): Request timed out) with associated http 500 error. I have enabled failed request tracing and can see the following:

The problem happens on other pages too but the rest of the time the page is returned in less than 5 seconds. The server app logs and sharepoint ULS logs do not give any more detailed info. What I want to know is what other troubleshooting step can I take for http500 errors.

I keep getting the error message "you do not have permission to do this operation" in  sharepoint designer 2007 (WSS 3.0), whenever I try to edit a page in Sharepoint Designer.

I am a farm admin, site collection admin and site admin, after the error message I can click OK and enter the Administrator password which has the same priviliges as me and it thinks about it for 5 minutes then returns the same error, eventually after several hours it will allow me to save changes but it's about a 1 in 20 chance.

As it does save sometimes it would appear to me that somehow it is losing the connection or temporarily losing the credentials. Does anybody have a clue where I can start to find out a solution to this problem. I get the feeling that something is corrupted somewhere but I don't what to look for and where.

Any help, tips, ideas gratefully received.
