I'm using and administrating sharepoint in the education environment and have a question regarding Mysite.
I have created a central portal for the office I work in for internal use, and within that have created department sites from that. For the sake of it it's hosted at sharepoint.local.office, with MySite being hosted at mysite.local.office.
As other districts join the domain forest I've asked if they would like to have their own sharepoint site. In saying yes I then create sharepoint.districtx.whatever, but have disabled MySite creation for them.
Each district is tied to their onw Shared Services for the purpose of searching and such.
Ultimately I would like to permit each district to have their own MySite domain, but I have glanced through various things and keep seeing this thing that if MySite is deployed a certain way users will get a disconnected experience with sharepoint and other
users. I'm just not unserstanding what is meant by the "disconnected experience" any ideas on that?
In addition, I would like each shared service to have their own mysite, if that's possible under their own URL. I'm sure it is, but maybe I'm just missing some central piece that gives me that Aha moment of understanding.
How are other folks using mysites under such an environment?

I am doing a custom profile import using AD and a BDC connection. All the data comes in and populates correctly, including the 'Manager' field which is being populated from the BDC entity. All main fields are being populated from the BDC entity.
Fields are; First name, last name, email, office and cell phone, and manager.
However, when viewing the Organization Hierarchy, the users 'Manager' is not showing up in the Hierarchy. Nothing above the current user is shown in the Hierarchy. The Manager field is populated with a valid user. If I display the Manager
field in the 'Details' section, I can see the name and click on it to see their profile page as well, so it is all valid and accurate.
Colleagues ( users with the same Manager ) are listed in the Hierarchy, but none of their hierarchy's show the manager either.
I have deleted every profile and then done a full import several times with the same result. Incremental import does ont have any affect either.
Any suggestions or advice on how to get the Manager to display?
Thanks to all!
One quick question. We have some profile issue with one of our user. we delete his profile and import it again.
now wired things is happened, for that user Mylinks are disappered.
is their any way to recover it. we did not delete his mysite.
My users are having an issue accessing their mysites. When they go to the main portal page or any other site and click the link at the top right of the page to go to their Mysite they are thrown into an endless authentication loop. If they cancel
out of the loop the URL in the address bar is for http://mossserver/_layouts/MySites.aspx
For a user to successfully get to their myself they need to enter the full url like http://mossserver/personal/username/default.aspx
Now, I know somewhat how this happened. It resulted from me trying to delete a user's mysite and I apparently did it wrong but I'm not sure what I did. It almost seems like I deleted a redirect page or something...
Looking for any ideas.
We have been using the mysite section of sharepoint for 6 months and have recently changed the default.master is there any quick way of changing all the users pages without losing anydata.
I know i can go into the Master Page library for the users, upload the new default.master and then set this as default within sharepoint designer, however this will be quite a lenghty task for me to complete for all our userbase.
Could you please advise if there is a quicker way to do this.
