are the "CSS Friendly Control Adapters" being used in ASP.NET 3.5 and above?

I am a long time ASP.NET developer, but have just encountered the issue of CSS vs Tables in a deep manner (so far I have just used the built-in controls or just created my own controls).

I bought a great book on this issue, but the book is reffering the ASP.NET 2.0 via VS2005.

I am using ASP.NET 3.5 and above via VS2008/2010.

My first question is: are the "CSS Friendly Control Adapters" still alive in 2010 or maybe there are a new techniques being used?

My second question is:  are the "CSS Friendly Control Adapters" being used in ASP.NET 3.5 and above via VS2008/VS2010?

I will appreciate your help and advise.

Cant find vsi file for CSS Friendly Control Adapters

Hi guys

This is driving me crazy... I cant find the .vsi file for installing the CSS Friendly Control Adapters Project. Does anyone know where I can get this?

The following link: http://www.asp.net/cssadapters/ only leads to the CodePlex wiki where I can download the dll and a partial solution. Essentially, I'm looking for the source code to implement the Menu adapter.

Any help is much appreciated!

How to install the Css Friendly Control Adapter Source Code

Hi guys really new to ASP.NET I was trying to install the CSS Friendly control adapter but for some reason the instructions on the website seems outdated. I downloaded all the files (Source Code, DLL, Browser) I believe I need to add the DLL file to my website's Bin folder and the Browser file to the APP_Browsers folder is this correct? After I place this files how to I get it working? what do I have to do?

Also if I want to create a new DLL file from the Source code how do I do these? I opened the web-site with Visual Studio 2008 and I can see all the files in the solution explorer? But how do I compile this to a DLL file? I tried doing a build solution but all I get is an .sln file???

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance

Css Friendly Adapters - asp.net Horizontal Menu - IE6

Hopefully someone can help.

I have an asp.net menu with horizontal static top tier followed by 2 dynamic vertical lower tiers.

It renders fine in all other browsers etc. etc. - apart from IE6.

In IE6 the menu is not rendered horizontally and insttead the items are stacked vertically.

It is my understanding that when using horizontal orientation, the menu items are effectively floated next to each other.

So I can get round this float problem in IE6 by specifying a width for the items i.e.:

*html .AdminMenu .AspNet-Menu-Horizontal ul.AspNet-Menu li
	width: 45px;
	text-align: left;
	margin: 0;
	padding: 0;

Problem is, I do not want to set the width for each item. If I do this then it means regardless of the length of the text the width will always be the same.

On other browsers I do not set a width but instead set left/right margin so that every item is evenly spaced.

How can I do this in IE6? Essentially each li should wrap the text and float nex

Dynamic menu control

Dear all,

I want to get the names of some folders in my drive and populate my menu control with the names of those folders.

Getting the folder names is not the issue, but how can i populate my menu with the names of getted foldernames.

I tried this:

DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(Server.MapPath("~\\MyFolders\\"));
DirectoryInfo[] dirs = dirInfo.GetDirectories();
Menu1.DataSource = dirs;

But im getting the error:

HierarchicalDataBoundControl only accepts data sources that implement IHierarchicalDataSource or IHierarchicalEnumerable.

How can i achieve this?

Thanks in advance.

Addressing a specific node with CSS Friendly Control Adapters

Hello everybody,

I like the concept of the friendly control adapters, but I'm not sure if I can use them for my purpose.
My whole menu basically consist of one image, which itself contains the images for each menu item (is that understandable?).

Each menu item then displays only a certain part of the image.
I do this by shifting the background-position.

#navigation li#home a{
background-position:0px 0px;

/* Registration */
#navigation li#registration a:link, li#registration a:visited {
background-position:-106px -34px;

#navigation li#registration a:hover, li#registration a:focus {
background-position:-106px 0px;

/* Administration */
#navigation li#administration a:link, li#administration a:visited{
background-position:-212px -34px;

#navigation li#administration a:hover, li#administration a:focus{
background-position:-212px 0px;

I would like to do the same now with CSS Friendly, but I don't see how I can address each individual menu item node.
In static HTML I can give each link an ID (i.e. #administration), but I don't see how to do this with the asp:Menu control and CSS Friendly.

Can someone help me?

Thanks a lot,

Menu Control

Hi all

Ive got a Menu Control linked to Web.sitemap but would like a step by step example of how

to make it look and behave like the one I found here:-

Is there somewhere I can download an example of this or one similar?

Menu items of Welcome control behaves incorrect in non-IE browsers.

We are using wss 3.0 sp2

I am referring to the welcome control that is part of standard sharepoint pages. This is the in the masterpage. The welcome contrrol has options such as 'sign-in as different user' , 'signout' and so on. When user takes the mouse and tries to click on the sub-menu it doesn't work as if the menu item is not getting focussed (however up/down arrow with keyboard works fine).

I know that sharepoint sites are not best when viewed with firefox, safari, chrome etc  but is there a fix for this? Is it do with 'z' index setting or something? Can this be fixed through javascript?

Please share your views/solution.

Menu control rendering issue with IE8

Using VS2010, I created an ASP.NET 4.0 web application and simply added a couple of menu items below the "Home" menu item in the master page that's created by the project wizard. I made no other changes - no code, no stylesheet changes.

If I run the app locally then everything is fine. I suspect because the local IIS is responsive enough for the problem not to occur.

If I deploy the app to a web host (discountasp.net) then I see the menu render vertically for less than a second before it renders correctly. If I refresh the page a few times then usually I can see the menu vertical flash but sometimes I can't, so there's some sort of timing consideration.

I'm using IE8. The problem doesn't seem to occur with either Firefox 3 or Chrome.

Have others seen this problem?

Any suggestions for a fix?

I can supply the zipped up project if anyone wants it.

dynamic menu control call in login page

Hi ,i have declared two control in my master page , how wants to call this menu control in child page ( that is login page)i want to bind the menu control dynamically based on login previlagepublic Menu newMenu = new Menu();  public MenuItem newItem = new MenuItem("Master");

Menu Control expansion weired issue.

Menu control expands on load (vertically, 100%) and then contracts to its horizontal position. The code I am using- ASPX page: <asp:Menu ID="NavigationMenu" runat="server" CssClass="menu" EnableViewState="False" IncludeStyleBlock="False" Orientation="Horizontal" DataSourceID="SiteMapDataSource1">                    <DynamicMenuStyle CssClass="DynamicMenu" /></asp:Menu>   CSS:  .DynamicMenu{ display: none;} This can be live at www.jaindata.com Can someone please help? Thanks, Swapneel Shah

The OTHER Menu control issue...

Ok, everyone knows that the z-index is messed up in IE8 and that requires patches or workarounds...What I can't seem to find a solution to is the white background on the DynamicMenu parts of a Menu control.  Setting the background color to transparent or not setting it all doesn't seem to have any effect.  This is only a problem in IE8, Firefox 3.6.8 renders the dynamic menus without the white background.

IE 5-9 are slow to work my SQL databound menu

I have a sqldatasource menu; 10 parents (catagories) with 77 children (subjects) & 627 grandkids (articles). There is no sitemap per say, the breadcrumbs are generated from code behind. This menu (to my understanding) is pure Asp.net with no tables and uses a generated XML file to populate the menu. I have Windows 7 on 1 disk & XP pro on another and have tested my website on both. I have a working local host on my Win7 in VWDE 2008 but I use the TinyMCE application to populate the library at my hosting service. I open my website in Opera, FireFox, Chrome & Safari all work the main navigation menu with amazing speed. I'm happy with the amount of $$ I gave the programmer except IE (all of them) work the menu like molasses. I hoped IE 9 would resolve this but I've been playing with it and yes it is better - actually it measures up to the speed of IE 5 on this issue but still slow in comparison. So I'm asking someone to not solve this for me but give me some knowledge so that I can better state my case to the programmer I hire. I have found out that I can bleed a lot of $$ on vague statements. The slowest IE works the menu (matt2414.info) is on the parents, faster on the children and as fast as the other browsers on the grandchildren. I've spent a lot of time trying to understand any of this but can't and when IE 9 failed to work the menu like t
