Can't get Distinct work, when combining fields from inner joined tables

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi to all.I have a users table, each user has a session and each session has multiple parameters.I would like to retrieve all params for a specific user and get the paramID from the params table and the date submitted from the sessions table. This is the linq to SQL query so far:var items = (from param in db.Params join session in db.Sessions on param.SessionID equals session.ID where userID.Equals(session.UserID) //userID is the function argument orderby session.DateSubmitted descending select new { ParamID = param.ID, DateSubmitted = session.DateSubmitted }).Distinct(); I have noticed that when the DateSubmitted is fetched, i have multiple instances of a param in the result set, meaning that the Distinct does not work as expected. If i remove it like this:var items = (from param in db.Params join session in db.Sessions on param.SessionID equals session.ID where userID.Equals(session.UserID) //userID is the fu

Delete spaces created by combining 2 fields

Howdy, this is kind of a continuation of an answer I got from this thread:  http://forums.asp.net/t/1592766.aspx

My users will enter a city/station where an incident occured, and the date.  The trigger below does work, but it will occasionally put spaces between the citystation and the date.  I think this happens when the citystaion name is not very long, but not sure.

(ex: city____08242010)

How can I make sure that if the incidentid is going to have spaces, that sql deletes those spaces?  I need the id to be space free.

Databind ListView datasource and joined tables

Hi all.

I am not expert in ASP so i would be appreciated for the help. Issue connected to Entity FW, ListView Control, its Datasource and type convertion.

I have the  following LINQ query :

RoutesEntities routesModel = new RoutesEntities();
LocalesEntities localesModel = new LocalesEntities();
ObjectQuery routesQuery = (ObjectQuery) from routes in routesModel.Routes
                                                    join locales in localesModel.Locales
                                                    on routes.LocaleID equals locales.LocaleID

Conditional formatting on a joined subview using SharePoint Designer 2007 does not work

I have 2 SharePoint lists, one is a parent task list and the other a child task lists.  In SharePoint Designer 2007 I have created a combined datasource from these 2 lists.  From there I created a new ASPX page inserting the parent list as a dataview and the child as a subview.  So far so good, all is functioning as you would expect.    Now I need to apply conditional formatting to cells and rows in both the parent and child lists.  I can create a very simple condition on a row or cell of the parent list such as "If ID Equals '2988' format the background color as green" but no conditional formatting appears for the row where ID = 2988.  Incidentally, if I change the condition to "not equals 2988" the background changes to green. The line in the code view of Designer appears as follows:  <xsl:if test="../../../Rows/Row/@ID = '2988'">background-color: #00FF00;</xsl:if> I've seen this question asked here and in blogs but never answered.  If anyone has a solution, I would love to know what it is. Thanks; Dave  UPDATE:  it doesn't seem to matter if you add the additional fields as a joined subview or not.  If I add 2 data views, both using the linked data source which is configured to JOIN the contents of the data sources the conditional formatt

Filter and Sort on fields in a joined dataview in SharePoint Designer

I need to create a data view that joins and displays data from two lists, and to sort and group on all of the fields displayed, not just fields from the main list.

I created linked datasource from two of my lists, joined them on a common field, and first inserted fields from the main list. Then I inserted fields from the other list as a Joined Subview,  which worked just fine, but now I need to be able to sort and filter on fields in that joined list, for which there doesn't seem to be an option.

Does anybody know whether it's possible and/or any workarounds/solutions for this? Basically, Is there a way to create a joined view of two lists where all fields are displayed in separate columns, and not in a table within a cell as in a case with joined subview?

Any comments are highly appreciated.

Relation between tables doesn't work

Promoted fields not available in SPD work flow

I have an InfoPath form that I have published to a form library. I initially only promoted one field called departments to the library. After messing around a bit, I decided I needed three other fields promoted and wanted to use them in a SPD work flow.

We have MOSS 2007 and I am using Forms Server publishing for this form as our people only have Office 2003 w/out InfoPath on their machines. It is a one WFE setup with a separate SQL box.

I re saved the form, and republished it adding the new fields to promote. They were not available to the SPD work flow when I choose "Set field in current item."

The only fields I see available to choose from in this area are the originally promoted department field, as well as the stock "Title" and Name (for use in forms).

So I figured maybe I need to publish to a new library. I deleted the old library, and published to a new library. Same problem.

I have tried a variety of actions including closing and opening SPD, removing spaces in the field names on the form and re adding them as fields to promote, but SPD is stuck on just the three fields. I don't understand why I likes department and not datesubmitted or requestnumber.

Any suggestions?

Column filter in Business Data List web part does not work for all fields

I have a BDC entity whose fields contain a variety of data – numbers, dates and strings.  When I use the business data list web part I find that some of the columns’ dynamic filtering (accessed from the list’s column header) doesn’t work.  For these problem fields, the filter values load correctly but when I select a value all records disappear.  Initially I thought this was limited to just string columns but there is one string column that does filter correctly.

Here are some things that may be useful to know:

1.       The datasource is a SQL view and all fields are varchar(255)

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

RadioButton inside GridView, How to get it work as normal

Did you tried before to drag a RadioButton control inside a Gridivew templatefield, and then you attempt to select these RadioButtons , you will notice that the behavior of RadioButton control will be changed and it will work just like the behavior of checkbox control! the user will be able to select more than one radiobutton in the grid!

Temporary Tables - MS SQL Server

Usage of temporary tables in MS SQL Server is more developer friendly and they are widely used in development. Local temporary tables are visible only in current session while global temporary tables are visible across all sessions.

Temporary tables in SQL Server vs. table variables

When writing T-SQL code, you often need a table in which to store data temporarily when it comes time to execute that code. You have four table options: normal tables, local temporary tables, global temporary tables and table variables. I'll discuss the differences between using temporary tables in SQL Server versus table variables.

Looking for guidance: wanting to work with AJAX architecture

I'm starting a small website that will be backed by a database, and will allow a small number of users to authenticate and select an entry in the database, and then view (and optionally update) a corresponding entry (think master-detail).

I have some flexibility in how I'll do this, but I'd really like to incorperate some newer AJAX style coding, eliminating some page postbacks. I think this is a great opportunity to learn the concepts well.

I'll probably go with an ASP.NET 4.0 site. From what I've seen there are MANY ways to go about this:

-WCF Data Services to expose the data, and consume in ASP.NET

-Page methods to expose the data, separate method to update the data

-I'd rather avoid the UpdatePanel because I'm really looking for a full hands-on approach, with learning client side scripting being an objective as well.

Beyond that, it seems that one can use jQuery to build clientside templates, but also one can use the ASP.NET AJAX template engine (in ASP.NET 4.0 I believe).

A concern I have: users should only be able to work with the data exposed via these endpoints if they are logged into the website. Hopefully I can somehow reuse the ASP.NET forms authentication cookie for this purpose.

Well, I hope I've posted enough to a

animate effect work but the render items are messed up.

Hi all,

I have a very unique problem, humm i think. I am using a jquery effect that animate bounce effect, i have a line in my javascript pageLoad function $("#UserBrowserInfoDIV").show('bounce'); - the effects run smoothly but what it does is mess up the bolded text in the div. I have try the items inside the div without bolding and it works fine and no render problem but when bolded the text that are bolded is quite messed up, and barely readable.

Please let me know is there anything else i can do i really would like use this effect.

P.S all the effect have the same render problem, and i am using ie8 under compatibility mode.

Using a trigger or anything else to populate two tables

Hi! I'm creating an application that's supposed to first add a record to table1, and then get the ID from that record to use when adding a record to table2, to be able to associate these two records with eachother.

The user gets to type in some values that goes to table1, and some values that goes to table2, but before the insert statement for table2 is executed i need the ID from the recently added record in table1. Some dude told me to use a trigger for the autopopulate purpose, but does that really work when i also need to save some values that's user input, and when those values doesn't get saved in table1?

Are there any other way to do this or can i send values to a trigger? I'm new to triggers and stored procedures, i don't have any particular knowledge of this, any help is appreciated!
