Two models passed to a one view ?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 08, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi, I'm new to ASP.NET and mvc world, so I may be a dumb question... I'm trying to develop my application and I've got a master page where I'm planning to create a div container, where my "news" will be loaded from my database and will be shown always on a main site. Then inside of the main placeholder I'm planning to load some extra data too from my database... and there's the question: how to solve that ? is there any possibility to pass a model to a master page ? or two viemodels to a view page inside the main placeholder on my page ? (one with news, and other containing some other data). Show me the way :) Thanks, Gregory

Bind models to View

I have one view page.now what i want to do,i want to bind two models to same view.

I have to bind two different models to single view.

I have bind view with storngly type with Department model

First display all the Department,
now on click of Department i have to show the Courses associated with that Department.

How can I achive this.

How can I reuse Model Metadata for custom View Models?

I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC 2 project with some business entities that have metadata dataannotations attributes applied to them (Validation attributes, Display attributes, etc.).

Something like:

//User entity
public class User

[Required(ErrorMessage = "Vorname fehlt")]
[StringLength(MaxNameLength, ErrorMessage = "Vorname ist zu lang")]
public string FirstName { get; set; }

Strongly Typed HtmlHelpers and View Models

I am not sure why this happens, but when I have an Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.SomeObject.SomeProperty), when I post, the property of that object is always null.

When I look at the markup generated, I see <input type="text" name="SomeObject_SomeProperty" id="SomeObject.SomeProperty" value = "" />

If I change the helper to Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.SomeObject.SomeProperty, new {id = "SomeProperty"}) the controller is then able to pick the value up. Why is this happening? I feel as though I shouldn't have to be specifiying the id for the textbox as it works when fine when not using child objects on a view model, IE <%: HtmlTextBoxFor(model => model.SomeProperty) %>.

Need an MVC Guru !!! Best Practice to have multiple Strongly Type Models ...inside a single View ??

So far I've seen demos of MVC that have simple pages, one for login, one for register, one for listing a table ...

In order to understand better the transition for WebForms developers into MVC patterns, I would like to understand how can I put together multiple CONTROLS (like the one provided by the default MVC project that VS2010 creates for us ...and make it work.

OK so as an example, imagine we want to change the LogonUserControl.ascx to allow us to login (so to show UserName and Password textboxes and Logon button) from the Home Page.

1) We update the Control as follow:

2) We update the HomeController.cs file to handle the Logon Button Post event as follow:

We needed to move some code from AccountController to HomeController in order to get the control to work under the Index view. So ...with little luck it seems to work !!!

Now the problem happens when you navigate to the Register view, considering that now we are not any longer on the HomeController "domain" but we are under AccountController.

Register page shows perfectly and

two models inside one view

I my strogly typed view, I am returning single blog post. it is working perfectly.

problem is here;

also i need to return the comments which have been made on the post in the same view. but the model of the comments is different. What should I do ?

I ca return them by hardcoding on the view with foreach loop but it is not so useful for mvc and I am thinking there should be some easy way for this. thanks !

base models with view models

i have a base controller that looks like this:

 public class ModelMaster
        public ModelMaster()
            DataFromAction = "index";
        public string DataFromAction { get; set; }

and a contact model that inherits from the base model.

the master page inherits form the base model,

nad the contact page inherits from the contact nodel,

but then i get an error while loading the contact page that it expects the contact model but gets the base model?

i understand that i'm doing something wrong, i just don't understand what exactly

Truly Understanding View State

This article provides a detailed understanding of the ViewState.

GridView Parent Child View with JQuery Effects

I was just checked how to add some more cool effects to the GridView control using JQuery. In this post I will display parent-child data in the GridView control with some help of the wonderful JQuery library.

Let's first populate the GridView control.

Model View Controller (MVC) for ASP.NET

Model View Controller (MVC) architectures, immediately wonder how the MVC pattern can be applied in an ASP.NET world. This article will demonstrate how the MVC pattern can be applied to an ASP.NET web application and still maintain the basic Microsoft supplied architecture.

view state vs request parameters

If  the view state is the data entered into the form fields then they are supposed to be available in the request parameters or request body. Then why would we need view state for?

partial view, 2 controllers

This is my first visit to the forums, I hope someone here can help me

I'm writing a small webapplication for creating repair tickets and adding comments, really basic

now I'm writing this in MVC2

So I have 2 controllers, 1 HomeController that does everything related to the tickets (listing tickets, creating new ones, editing) and 1 controller for the comments

the edit view for the homecontroller contains a partial view for /comment/create

so /home/edit/ticketnumber can edit the title and status of the ticket on the left side of the screen, the right side of the screen contains the partial view for adding comments

this is done like this:

Html.Renderaction("Create", "Comment");

but if I look at the generated html code when running the app, both save buttons go to /home/edit/ticketnumber

so the comment is never saved.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help me solve this

could somebody give me example how I can connect to database only once if I use many models in contr

I use in my ASP.NET MVC application repository pattern and I use in controller for example 3 models:

   namespace MvcApplication1.Controllers
        public class HomepageController : Controller
            private IWebsitesRepository _repository_websites = new WebsitesRepository();
            private IFirmRepository _repository_firm = new FirmRepository();
            private IPhotosRepository _repository_photos = new PhotosRepository();

In WebsiteRepozitory, FirmRepository and PhotosRepository classes I have:

Database1Entities _entities = new Database1Entities();

So I have 3 connections to database ? Is it wrong ? How can I solve it ?

WebDev.WebServer.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close when trying to view page in browser

Hi, whenever I load an aspx page in vwde2008, I get the message in the subject of this post.  After I click Ok on that, I get a dialog box, Unable to Connect to the ASP.Net development center.  What can I do to troubleshoot?

I am using Windows XP SP3, vwde2008 with SP1, on a HP desktop.  Also using Office 2003 if that is relevant at all.

Thanks, Justin

View State Encryption

Hi All,

Why is it that I see the same hash value generated when I use different algorithms for viewstate encryption. I have added below lines to the web.config file
