Changing Windows Administrator account name

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
I am planning on changing the name of the administrator account in Windows for security purposes.  I plan to follow kb 816109 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816109/en-us) to use Group Policy to do this (we are running W2003 on servers).  My question is, will this affect anything in regards to SQL.  I have SQL2005 on a member server and normally use Windows authentication for Sql SMS and SQL services.  I can see username is filled in as 'domain/administrator' and is greyed out so it cannot be changed...if the administrator account is renamed through group policy, will Windows authentication still work with the new login name or will it only work with account name 'Administrator'?

SqlServer - Windows Account to install Application from Gallery

Referring to this tutorial: http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/tutorials/download-and-install-an-asp-net-application

I selected umbraco cms and got this wizard:

I already have Standard Sql Server 2005 on my machine which I wanted to us for above DB and not SqlExpress.

I did not remember "sa" account pwd nor I use explicitly any account to connect to my Sqlserver. I use Windows Authentication account i.e implicit authentication. So I created new account and gave all rights and used it in the above wizard and was able to install the database after some struggle.

My question is: What if I want to use my Windows Account to install the database above? Why the wizard don't have any option to use Windows Integrated Authentication?

Note: I can create the DB with external user I created, just looking specifics for using Windows Authentication for above installation.

Central Administration no longer accessible by any account after changing Farm Account in SharePoint

I have a problem, that I no longer can access Central Administration Website, only the Sharepoint itself. I was running installation of Sharepoint 2010 Server with administrative account ImTheAdmin, who is a Domain Admin in the MYDOMAIN domain. Using ImTheAdmin I installed Sharepoint 2010 on one of the Windows 2008 R2 member servers. Besides that, I made ImTheAdmin the primary administrator of the Sharepoint. ImTheAdmin became the only user of this Sharepoint 2010 server after installation.  I installed everything on one box with default installation settings. I used builtin SQL server, not Standard or Enterprise. What then happened is: Using ImTheAdmin account, I opened Central Administration Website, and it said, that I need to change the Farm Account, as the account for Farm was the default one (I think it was network service). So I created a regular domain user in AD Users and Computers called MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount. Then using IE, I went to the Central Administration Website page, which is meant for changing farm account usernames. I put in MYDOMAIN\SPFarmAccount down in to the form of Central Administration Website, added the check mark, that it would react to password changes, and pressed Change. Browser worked for a while, and after that nothing seemed to work. Neither my Sharepoint, nor Central Administration website. When going to Central Administra

Same server farm administrator domain account for both Intranet and Internet Sharepoint site?

Hello,   We are planning to setup 2 streams of architecture for both Intranet and Internet web sites. Just wondering whether there is any best practices/security concerns if we are using the same domain account as the Server Farm Administrator for both Intranet and Internet platform?   Thanks,

How to change the System Account into Domain Administrator account in Sharepoint?

I'm attaching the captured image from the Central Admin of our Sharepoint Server. (http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346242/Central-Admin.jpg) As you can see from the Central Admin image, the user account shown is "System Account", in whereas I logged in as our Domain Administrator. Then when you check it's info from My Settings, the details from the captured image System Account Info was shown. ( http://www.experts-exchange.com/images/346243/System-Account-Info.jpg) How can I change it as be DOMAIN\Administrator & not SHAREPOINT\system or System Account? Please advise...

SharePoint 2007 - Survey list - Getting user's Windows account ID from a web service using display

Surveys...grrrr.   I am developing a .NET console application that accesses survey data from a single survey list using the MOSS web service "Lists".   I am able to enumerate the survey list and get to the items except for the author of the survey response.  When I get to the column ows_Author, it appears to be a lookup value formatted like this:  "1066;#JOHN DOE".   How can I, using web services alone, lookup the corresponding Windows login ID of that user?  If I go to the survey in SharePoint and click on the name in the view, it takes me to a site-based user profile page that does show the account ID I want.  The page that displays appears to be a virtualized page like this "_layouts/userdisp.aspx?ID=1066".   What I really need is JOHN DOE's account ID like "domain\id". Can I get to this with the data I have available? Thanks

Full reported error

StdOut -2068578304: The following error occurred:
The Windows account doman\user does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator
Error result: -2068578304
Result facility code: 1204
Result error code: 0

domain/user is a domain administrator and also a local administrator and is the currently logged in user.  This failure is happening as part of A Citrix XenApp 6.0 configuration which was started as an Administrator

A Google search for
"The Windows account" "does not exist and cannot be provisioned as a SQL system administrator"
Came up with absolutely nothing.

A Google search for -2068578304 failed to find anything, which did not surprise me.

-2068578304 translates into hex as 84B40000.

A Google search for 84B40000

Comes up with a fair few different textual descriptions with the same error code, which I am wading through.

Any help would be welcome.  I am also asking my friends at Citrix.

With thanks in advance.

Windows PGM socket access error with non-admin account

I'm trying to use PGM sockets to send data. I can listen and receive data fine from a PGM socket using a non-admin account, but when I try to create a socket to send data I get an exception at this step:

socket.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 0));

The exception is:

An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions

Note that if I run the same code under an admin account it works fine. Is there a way to create a sender PGM socket without running under an admin account?

Error 15404 - Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'Dev\Administrator', error

SQL Server 2008 R2 with the latest CU floods event log with "An exception occurred while enqueueing a message in the target queue. Error: 15404, State: 19. Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'Dev\Administrator', error code 0x54b".

Domain controller is located on the same server (Win 2008 R2), this is SharePoint virtual machine. There are no DNS or Directory Service errors.

How can I troubleshoot this?

Cannot log in into SharePoint site with administrator account

I have set up a SharePoint environment where I have set up a test web application and a site collection.  It is important to mention that everything has been set up using the administrator account.  Once I try to logging in using administrator account it fails after 3 tries and it just give me a blank screen.
I also checked IIS for security setting but I do not see anything wrong!
As a side note I am able to connect Central administrator without any problems using the administrator account.
I think it is a security setting but I do not know where to start
Help is greatly appreciate

Access to path denied aspnet account - windows 7

I have seen this error many times in past and what all I used to do was to add aspnet account to the directory and provide it with read and write access.  But this time I am trying to run an application in Windows 7(64 bits) - I had to manually enable the IIS from windows feature in Control Panel.

But I dont see any aspnet account in 'security' tab of any of the directories (in its properties). I even ran aspnet_regiis -i in v2.0.50727 and v4.030319 directories.   How do I get aspnet user account to show up in any folder? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Running SSIS job step as Proxy account does not find log provider for windows event log

When I run a ssis job step using a proxy account i get this error message:

Description: The log provider type "DTS.LogProviderEventLog.2" specified for log provider "SSIS log provider for Windows Event Log" is not recognized as a valid log provider type. This error occurs when an attempt is made to create a log provider for unknown log provider type. Verify the spelling in the log provider type name.  End Error  Error: 2010-02-02 14:43:03.88     Code: 0xC0010021     Source:       Description: Element "{028F8760-7E28-4F62-A204-66F33F4064BE}" does not exist in collection "LogProviders".

If the account is a member of administrators group on the sql server the job step works fine.

Since the logprovider DTS.LogProviderEventLog.2 exists on the system I guess that this has something to do with access rights, probably to some registry key(s), but I cannot find out which part of the registry the proxy user does not have access to.

When running the same package using DTEXEC in a Command Prompt and using RUNAS <proxyuser> the package works fine and writes to the event log.

Kind regards

Blog - Changing the URL of user account on posts.

When a post is created on a SharePoint 2010 blog, the title of the post and author is displayed. When clicking on the authors name it brings up the userdisp.aspx with all their info. I need to redirect them to another page that displays the author's bio instead.

Someone told me that I need somehow rewrite the URL inside the div.ms-PostFooter tag. I have absoutely no knowledge of Javascript. Can someone please help??

User profile sync failing after changing username when another administrator got married recently.

I changed the username in Active Directory for the administrator who set up most of our Sharepoint 2010 server and now neither she nor I (as domain admin) can manage library settings, services on farm, or a number of other places where apparently sharepoint relies on user profile sync to succeed to grant privileges.  Checking back in the logfiles, it would appear that sharepoint profile sync hasn't been working since the last cumulative update but no one noticed (I don't adminster the server) until the sharepoint admin user person got married and their username (and display name) changed.  Since then, many links are broken in both central admin and all other sites.  The error is always the following (the date/time changes obviously):  "

User cannot be found.
