I have a general question: I'm upgrading from sql 2005 SP 2 x64 on Windows 2003 R2 SP2 to sql 2008 SP1. Disks are directly attached, (no SAN). Can I detach my user databases first, run the upgrade, then re-attach? Is it faster
that way? Are there any dangers in doing that? Also, you'd think it would make recovering from a failed upgrade easier since they reside on a separate drive and will still be 2005 database files. I could re-install sql 2005 and re-attach them
since they never were touched by the upgrade.
