default.browser from asp.net 3.5 to asp.net 4.0

Posted By:      Posted Date: August 21, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

hello, it's me again :-)

a (maybe) stupid question:

in asp.net 3.5 i've this .browser file:

...snip...

<browser refID="safari1plus">

<controlAdapters>

<adapter controlType="System.Web.UI.WebControls.Menu" adapterType="" />

</controlAdapters>

</browser>

</browsers>

now i suppose that in asp.net 4.0 this is not useful.

So what i've to do? I've simply to delete "App_Browsers" folder in my converted project or i've to put in this folder:

.blackberry.browser

.chrome.browser

.Default.browser

.firefox.browser

.gateway.browser

.generic.browser

.ie.browser

.iemobile.browser

.iphone.browser

.opera.browser

.safari.browser

?

What's the best way?

Thank  you very much!

Inside the "Default Browser Switcher" extension

You may have already heard of the recently WoVS extension "Default Browser Switcher" (download from Visual Studio Gallery or from Extension Manager inside VS) that helps in choosing what browser you want to launch from VS while debugging your ASP.NET applications. You can start by reading the original post from Scott Hanselman where he describes some interesting inner workings of VS related to how it handles the launching of the VS default browser. Note this is the default browser to be launched from VS which may or may not be your default system-wide browser. If you're brave enough to survive Scott's post then you're ready to enter some even more obscure details: how to package that into an extension for Visual Studio. We started by defining the set of commands we wanted to support and we ended up with ten commands total. That is a "Set default Browser to X" command multiplied by Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera and a "View in Browser X" command multiple by the same number of browsers. The first set would go into a VS Toolbar and the second set would go into a sub menu whose parent would be a new "View in Browser" command. To author the UI we used the very handy and friendly VSPackage Builder which allowed us to quickly design our 10 commands and place them where we wanted inside VS:   (Yes, that's a DSL for authoring your own custom UI inside

Why SS Browser service run under default NetworkService?

Opening links from WPF WebBrowser control in default browser instead of IE

I am working on a WPF application that uses System.Windows.Controls.WebBrowser to display an embedded HTML page.
The problem I have is that all links from that page that are to open an external browser window (with target="_blank") open Internet Explorer instead of the configured default browser.
How do I tell the WebBrowser control to respect the default browser settings?

How to make Excel open in application not browser by default

I'm facing a problem here. I tried the to open an excel file (.xls) which was attached in a Calendar Item.

On 1 PC, it opens automatically with the Excel application and thus the user is able to edit and save.
On another PC, it opens in the browser and the user is unable to edit / save the file.

Initially, I tried and thought that it's user rights issue but apparantly, it is not.

How can I make the .xls to open in excel by default? Can someone help me?

Really appreciate the help and answers.

Cheers

Default ASP.NET Architecture

In providing an architectural approach, some assumptions are made concerning the project goals. These assumptions should be used as a litmus test to determine if the described architecture may be an appropriate fit for your ASP.NET application.

How to setup a Mobile Browser Emulator in Windows Mobile 6:

In the following tutorial, I cover the process of Setting up Windows Mobile 6 for Mobile Browser Emulation using the Microsoft Device Emulator. This enables a user to experience Windows Mobile 6 on a PC via Emulation without even owning a Windows Mobile 6 product. It can be a great way to test drive Windows Mobile 6 before purchasing a product with it installed. In our case, it allowed us to Emulate Windows Mobile Browsing so that we could optimize our sites for the Mobile viewing audience. Installation and Emulation is simple and fairly straight forward.

 How do you set the start page with godaddy hosting? I can see no way of doing this! You do not seem to have access to the IIS settings that allow you to change it!

*.axd script references not being rendered to browser

I'm running VS2010 with .net 4.0, and am running into issues with the .net ajax script tags mysteriously not being rendered to the browser.

So far I've reduced it to a scenario where I set the DataSourceID property of a databound control.  More specifically, I've only tested it on a Gridview and a DropDownList.

This can be reproduced fairly easily on my machine by following these steps:

1. Create a new empty Web Application Project

2. Create a new Web Form

3. Add a ScriptManager inside the form

4. Add a DropDownList and a DataSource (I used an ObjectDataSource)

5. Set the DataSourceID property of the DropDownList to the ID of the DataSource.  This can be done either declaratively on the .aspx page, or in the code behind in the aspx.cs page, and both produce the same results.

6. Open the page in a browser and watch as you get a javascript error stating "Sys is not defined" and notice that the page source contains no script tags referencing *.axd scripts.

Here's my source code showing my set up:

<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="ScriptResourceFAIL.Default" %>

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 T

WebDev.WebServer.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close when trying to view page in browser

Hi, whenever I load an aspx page in vwde2008, I get the message in the subject of this post.  After I click Ok on that, I get a dialog box, Unable to Connect to the ASP.Net development center.  What can I do to troubleshoot?

I am using Windows XP SP3, vwde2008 with SP1, on a HP desktop.  Also using Office 2003 if that is relevant at all.

Thanks, Justin

How to change the default page base class?

I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.

I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.

Thanks,

Adam

Setting default localization

Hello,

I ever thought that I can set a default localization if the users one (which is set in the browser) isn't available.

I've implemented my localresource files for localization. The start.aspx.resx contains all texts and elements for German use and the start.aspx.en.resx for English users. When I switch the language in the browser settings from German to English everything works fine and the english text is displayed. But when I switch to an other language which is not German or English, it takes defaulty the german resource files.

I've set

UICulture="auto:en-US" Culture="auto:en-US"

as well, but it didn't assume the .en resource file automatically. (For example when I enter the website and switch the browser language to French or Italian it should take the english resource files.)

Thanks and regards,
Chris

Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CurrencyProxy.CurrencyServiceSoap

Hi,

I created 2 projects in my solution:

  1. Classic asp.net web service (asmx)
  2. Class library project which references service
  3. web site project which references class library project
  4. Windows app project which references service.

Both projects were created in 3.5 framework and in Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2.

I added web service reference to Class library project. When it asked for namespace I typed "CurrencyProxy". Projects build ok, but when I run web app, Class library throws an error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'CurrencyProxy.CurrencyServiceSoap' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element.

I believe it has something to do with app.config in Class library project. Here is part from app.config:

 <system.serviceModel>
<bindings>
<basicHttpBinding>
<binding name="CurrencyServiceSoap" closeTimeout=
