Hi everyone, I was wondering which .NET classes could I use if I want my aplication to interact wih windows while windows is running other programs. For Instance: As Snagit works...If you are using IE and press the Print screen key,(and have Snagit installed and activated) automatically the Snagit editor opens  showing the Clipboard you'v just got for you to edit it. Thanks!

Windows Services: New Base Classes in .NET Make Writing a Windows Service Easy

Windows services are applications that run outside of any particular user context in Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. The creation of services used to require expert coding skills and generally required C or C++. Visual Studio .NET now makes it easy for you to create a Windows service, whether you're writing code in C++, C#, or Visual Basic. You can also write a Windows service in any other language that targets the common language runtime. This article walks you through the creation of a useful Windows service, then demonstrates how to install, test, and debug the service.

New Graphical Interface: Enhance Your Programs with New Windows XP Shell Features

The Windows XP shell introduces many new features that both users and developers are sure to welcome. The interface supports a number of styles that will be new to users, and it also supports customization of those styles through a new concept called themes. There are more shell registry settings available to the user and developer, a facility for customizing infotips, and infotip shell extensions. In addition, folder views can be customized. This article covers these shell changes and includes a discussion of a number of other Windows XP additions. These include fast user switching, which lets users log on and off quickly, and AutoPlay support for a variety of devices and file types not previously supported.

WPF Designer not displaying controls in the toolbox VS2008 Prof Edn running on Windows 7

My Version Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Version 9.0.30729.4462 QFE Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 SP1 I have windows 7 home premium running on my machine I installed Visual C# 2008 Express Edn with SP1 first I got that running I then installed rest of the Express components including SQL. I then installed Visual Studio 2008 Prof Edn with .Net 3.5 SP1 I then installed .Net 4.0 I run two instance of  C# IDEs. The Pro End and the Express Edn. Both Express/Prof C# versions display controls in toolbox for Windows Forms correctly. I only have problems with controls in toolbox for WPF in VS 2008 Prof Edn. My Scenario : When I use Express Edition the design view of the WPF Designer, it displays the toolbox with controls populated for WPF that I can use. When I use Pro Edition the design view of the WPF Designer, it displays the toolbox with  NO controls visible for WPF  that I can use.  The toolbox has only  "general" tab with the words "not usable controls....". If I do a show all it does show controls but they are disabled/read only. When I look at the Tools -> Choose Toolbox Item , I get the tools dialog box. Inside the box within the WPF Components TAB all controls are not ticked/selected. If I tick the Button Control and select OK, the control does not appear on the toolbox. I have done reset Toolbox no change. I

Windows 7 - WPF - Framework 3.5 - Content not displaying in developer or when running

Help. I seem to have broken WPF 3.5 on my development box.  If I bring up VS2008 and create a new, blank WPF app, it does not display the designer.  If fact, I can see the desktop wallpaper through VS 2008.  If I run the app, I get a window with the same see-through properties.  Plus if I drag the app window around, it leaves artifiacts all over the screen. If I create a new WPF 4.0 app in VS 2010 - no problem.  If I target the app to 3.5 - the designer does not go crazy, but I get the same run-time issue as with VS 2008. Please help! L. How to get message from Windows to actually running application in WPF?

I spend around few hours to find something about my issue on Internet. But I have no idea what to write in Google... :/
So I thought maybe it will be better to write here.
I wrote an application which can save and open it own files. Then I added special registry key and now when I double-click on a file associated with my application, Windows (OS) opens my application and load the file. Most application work like this and thats OK.
But what I want to do?
I want my application to be opened just once. So when I double-click on a file the application will start running and load the first file. But when I double-click on second file (during my application is already running) windows will open second application. And I want to load this second file to already running application. What should I do??

PS - I am writing WPF application in Visual 2010 with .Net4.

What are the memory limits of SQL Server 2008 Workgroup edition (32 bit/non-R2) running on Windows S

We have a situation where one of our customers is running Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition 32bit with 8 GBs of physical RAM. Upgrading to Windows Server 2008 64bit is not an immediate option (although I wish it were). All the documentation about SQL Server 2008 Workgroup edition indicates that the new version will address 4 GBs of memory however it does not distinguish between 32bit vs 64bit.

Previously we have run SQL Workgroup 2005 under Windows 2003 and have applied the /3gb switch in boot.ini to get SQL to recognize the maximum amount of memory possible. Now that we are using SQL 2008 with the /pae switch, do we need to still specify the /3gb switch or can SQL 2008 32bit actually see more than the 3GBs and address 4? I haven't been able to find any information on this configuration.

Novice - How do i get a small office server running XP set up so we can use Windows share point Serv

I am a novice at this. We have a small office server set up runing Windows XP, generally used for storage of data. The office network consists of 4 computers, some running on windows XP, and some on Windows 7.

I would like to be able to use Windows share point collaboration, and windows exchange functions in the office between users...what do i need to do to enable this?

SQL Agent - Running SSIS Package - Windows Server 2008/Windows 7 - Messenger Services

We have tried to run a SQL job for SSIS Package. But it failed during the execution with the error "[364] The Messenger service has not been started - NetSend notifications will not be sent". But in the job, no notifications have been configured and in windows server 2008/Windows-7 there is no messenger service at all.

When we search for the the messenger service in windows 7/windows server 2008, we found that service is not in both the OS and it was replaced by msg.exe.

Any help or workaround would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS: The normal SQL jobs other than SSIS are working fine without any error.

Running ASP.Net 2.0 on Windows 2008 Server

Hi - I've got an ASP.Net 2.0 application running on a Windows 2003 server.  It makes use of the Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data reference, but there are no special bells and whistles, no AJAX, or other add-ins.  The application connects to a SQL 2000 database on a different server.  My boss wants to know if we can upgrade the server where the ASP.Net application runs to Windows 2008.  Are there any issues I should be aware of?

Thanks much!

Running SSIS job step as Proxy account does not find log provider for windows event log

When I run a ssis job step using a proxy account i get this error message:

Description: The log provider type "DTS.LogProviderEventLog.2" specified for log provider "SSIS log provider for Windows Event Log" is not recognized as a valid log provider type. This error occurs when an attempt is made to create a log provider for unknown log provider type. Verify the spelling in the log provider type name.  End Error  Error: 2010-02-02 14:43:03.88     Code: 0xC0010021     Source:       Description: Element "{028F8760-7E28-4F62-A204-66F33F4064BE}" does not exist in collection "LogProviders".

If the account is a member of administrators group on the sql server the job step works fine.

Since the logprovider DTS.LogProviderEventLog.2 exists on the system I guess that this has something to do with access rights, probably to some registry key(s), but I cannot find out which part of the registry the proxy user does not have access to.

When running the same package using DTEXEC in a Command Prompt and using RUNAS <proxyuser> the package works fine and writes to the event log.

Kind regards

Rolf
