Access Denied/The workflow could not copy the item workflow error after Sharepoint 2010 upgrade

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
We have a sharepoint designer workflow that copies a document from one library to another on the same site.  Before the upgrade to 2007 it worked fine, but now with 2010 it gives an error and cancels the workflow when it gets to the copy list item step.   The error on the workflow page: The workflow could not copy the item. Make sure the source and destination lists have the same columns and column settings.  Access Denied   Specifically it is the "copy list item current item to documentlibrary" sharepoint designer workflow action.   I have given the system account full permissions to the library and double checked that all columns are the same in both libraries. Access Denied error on custom workflow task list item

We have created a two level custom approval workflow on (an InfoPath) form library using SharePoint Designer (SPD) with first and second approver. The workflow works fine as long as the approver is in the Site Collection Administrators group. The approvers who are not in the admin group can get to the custom Task form for approve/reject, but they can only view the form. When they click on the “Edit Item” button of the task list item, they receive “Access Denied” error. We have given these approvers “Approve”, “Contribute” permissions on the Form library and even Full Control on the task form list (all items). Note: The users use their domain account and the error they are getting is: Access Denied, You are currently signed as DomainName\LoginName, Sign in as a different user.

We have read through several forums and have found people having the same issue. We tried all of the suggestions described in the following links - but no success so far.

SharePoint Designer Workflows, Tasks, and the Annoying “Access Denied” Error

Copy List not Working in Sharepoint 2010 Designer Workflow

I am having two custom lists,  First_List(Title, ID, Status) and Second_List(Title, ID) here Status is a choice menu with values Selected and Rejected I am copying data from First_List to Second_List using WorkFlow with SharePoint Designer, When I am inserting data in first list. For that I have written in workflow action if CurrentIten. Status equals Selected  Copy item in current item to Second List now the Problem is that only the Title field is getting copied into the Second List but I am unable to copy the ID field. I am unable to understand whats the problem

Receiving Error when Trying to Develop Sharepoint 2007 Workflow using VS 2010 Pro

I have created a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise (32 bit) SP2 image configured with Sharepoint 2007 Enterprise and a trial edition of Visual Studio 2010 Professional.  All software is fully patched.  When I try to create a new Sharepoint 2007 Sequential Workflow (.NET Framework 3.5) in either C# or VB, I receive a pop-up error: Exception of type 'System.PlatformNotSupportedException' was thrown. and, when I click OK and fill in the name of the workflow and a valid Sharepoint Web URL for testing, I receive the following error: SharePoint site location entered is not valid.  The SharePoint site at <removed> could not be found.  Verify that you have typed the URL correctly.  If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application. The URL in question references the default SharePoint site on this test server and does exist.  My assumption is that the second error received is a symptom of the first.  I have looked elsewhere and seen issues related to 64bit SharePoint implementations but, this is a 32 bit installation.  Based on the VS 2010 web site, I have met all of the prerequisites for developing SharePoint 2007 workflows through VS 2010 Pro.  Does anyone have any ideas on what I might be missing or what I need to

Sharepoint 2010 Workflow to copy a document

I want to create a workflow where: When a document is modified, it is copied to a new folder. I can do this with the "copy list item" action, but it only allows me to select certain lists (document libraries for example), instead of being able to give a full pathname to a folder.  What's the correct action to copy the Current Item to specific folder within the same library.  Or alternately, to create a list that IS the correct folder. Thanks, -Mike

OOTB Approval Workflow SharePoint 2010 - Blank "Requested By" field appears in Task Item edit/view f

I am having a simple OOTB  approval worflow associated to the simple document library. Task is created when an document is uploaded to the library.  When I click the task item in task list, I see a blank field "Requested By"  right below the "Status" column and I am unable to understand from where this field is coming and how to populate this field. Any help would be great...

SharePoint - Item - Edit Properties - Access Denied Error

I have a SharePoint 2007 EE Site  (with patches up to version running on Windows Server 2008 & SQL Server 2008.
I ported an existing site from a different domain to this server by backing up/restoring the content database. The site is running fine.

I added a new sub-site and here is where I have the issue. If I create a document library, add a document, and then use the drop-down on the item to pick "edit properties" I bounce to the SP Error: Access Denied screen. My account is a site admin and has full access to the sub-site.
I can view the properties fine.

When I try to upload a document I get the access denied error message if some of the meta data properties are marked "required". The document is still uploaded. I also get the same error when I try to edit an item in a list.

I can view/edit the properties in Data sheet view fine. The libraries on the existing sites work fine. It only seems to be an issue on new sub-sites.

It almost seems like a permission problem generating the property edit forms. There is nothing in the SP log files.

Copy List Item in SPD 2010 Workflow Fails if Check Out/Check In Required

I've seen this issue on 3 different Sharepoint 2010 implementations, including upgrades and fresh installations...

The workflow, which works fine in WSS 3.0/MOSS, operates on change of a document.  Workflow reviews a specific column and based on contents of that column, it checks out the document, copies the current item from the current library to another library in the same site and then deletes the item in the current library.

In SharePoint 2010, the following occurs.  Again, this occurs in the upgraded workflow as well as in a brand new workflow created with SPD 2010 on a site that blank / not upgraded.

  • Workflow starts on an item that is verified to not already be checked out.
  • Document is checked out
  • Document IS copied to the other library
  • Workflow fails and is canceled with the following errors:
The workflow could not copy the item. Make sure the source and destination lists have the same columns and column settings.  (They do.)
The workflow operation failed because the action requires the document to be checked out. (The item is checked out by workflow - as is evidenced by the fact that the item is still checked out after workflow fails.)
  • RESULT:  the copy operation does work, workflow thinks it doesn't and fails on that step, item is not deleted

I've tes

Upgrade Sharepoint 2007 Custom State Machine/Sequential workflow to SharePoint 2010

What's the path for upgrading the SharePoint 2007 Custom State Machine/Sequential workflow to SharePoint 2010 when the current SharePoint 2007 environment is upgraded to SharePoint 2010 by an inplace upgrade?

What's the typical estimate time for upgrading SP2007 custom workflow to SP2010 custom workflow?  My gut says 40 to 80 hrs or even less than that, what’s your thoughts?

FYI...I tried to upgrade the SharePoint custom workflow built using visual studio 2008 in SP2007 environment to visual studio 2010 solution/project in SP2010 environment, I got the error messages to refer the following dll's

Microsoft.SharePoint.dll and Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowActions.dll

Even after referring the new dlls still the workflow design doesn't show up in the canvas...still work on this to fix mean while want to know the experts insights on this.

Error when creating a Workflow in SharePoint 2010

Hello All,

Just wantd to get some help with this problem.  I was trying to create an Out of the Box Signatures Workflow in my test SharePoint 2010 environment but I get the following error:

The following location is not accessible, because it is in a different site collection: http://<servername>/_catalogs/wfpub/Collect%20Signatures%20-%20SharePoint%202010/Signatures_1033.xsn.

Correlation ID:3d572eca-7fb0-4ec6-b251-151fb9bc6f35

Some more info, I did change my server's name just before I tried this.  I did reboot the server and ran the stsadm command -renameserver to force the name change on the server.  I then also did an IIS reset.  Everytime I try to do an IISReset, the first time always comes with:

Attempting stop...
Restart attempt failed.
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion

If I try it again, it does it fine.  When I click on the central admin icon from the Admin t

Access Denied error when attaching VS2008 workflow debugger to 64-bit IIS if VS2008 user differs fro

I am trying to attach VS2008 to debug a workflow hosted in IIS (using the workflow debugger option so I can step through the visual workflow designer breakpoints, not the managed code debugger).  It is actually a WF 3.5 WCF workflow service hosted in IIS but I don't think that is the issue.  When I attach from VS2008 I always get the error "Unable to attach to process.  Access is denied."

I can attach for managed code debugging no problem.  Also, if I configure the IIS worker process app pool to use the same account as the account I am running VS2008 under I can attach not problem and debug using the workflow debugger.

So my remaining problem is that I would like to be able to attach while running VS2008 as my normal user account and leave the w3wp.exe app pool running as the usual networkservice account so that my debugging represents how the w3wp.exe will act in production.  I'm on Vista SP1 64-bit with .Net 3.5 SP1 and VS2008 SP1.

Q: Is there a special privilege I can grant the worker process account so that I can debug while using a different user account?

I saw a very old post here http://blogs.msdn.com/sonalic/archive/2006/05/10/594703.aspx that hinted there is something special for 64-bit.  Does anyone know if there is something special about 64-bi

SharePoint Desinger 2010 approval workflow error

I created a copy of the out-of-the-box globally reusable workflow titled, "Approval - SharePoint 2010."

I then modified the "Initiation Form Parameters" in the workflow copy that I created. By default, the "Show on Form" settting for these parameters - Approvers, Expand Groups, Request, Due Date for all Tasks, Duration per Task, Duration Units, CC is set to "Both" (i.e. show these parameters during Initiation and Association). I did not want to display these parameters during Initiation, as we don't want end-users to change these settings. I want them to be displayed during Association only. We want Administrators only to be able to configure these parameters.

So I changed the "Show on Form" setting for the above parameters to "Association (attaching to a list)." I am able to save the workflow. And when I click on "Check for Errors" no errors are reported. But when I attempt to publish the workflow, I get the following error:

Errors were found when compiling the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run. And when I click on the "Advanced" button in the error message, I see this detailed error:

(0, 0) Activity 'ID4' validation failed: Property 'DurationUnit' has invalid

Sharepoint Workflow - Error copying list item - List item not found

I am having problems with two workflows I have created.  The first simply looks at the Status column and if this equals completed or cancelled, moves the item to another list and then deletes from the current list.

I had this set up to move items to a 2009 list and this was working fine, however now I have amended it to move to a new 2010 list, I am getting errors:

SharePoint 2010 - Access Denied 403 error when viewing a list

We have a solution packaged as a WSP. It has worked fine on three machines now, but the person that is going to be doing a demo cannot get this working right. The features activate fine for the site collection, however, when he goes to view any of the lists created by this feature (or any of the layouts application pages),  he gets 403 forbidden errors. He can view the built in lists OK. It seems like an IIS configuration issue, we have double checked all of his settings, anything we could be missing?

EDIT - He can open SharePoint Designer and view the lists fine from there, even navigate to the permissions for them.
