Problem Saving Files to A Sharepoint 2010 Site from Office 2010: Saves locally by default rather tha

Hi we are starting to use sharepoint 2010 / word 2010 and have found an interesting bug/problem. Sometimes when a user tries to save a file (by clicking on the save button in the quick access toolbar for word 2010) the save dialog comes up with the users local "Documents" folder as the path (not the correct sharepoint path where the document should be saved).  (I should say that we are creating the file from sharepoint by using a toolbar on the document library, with the new button)  We are using a content type and a template attached to the document library when we create the file.  This is really annoying because the user might not notice that the document is saving locally and not to sharepoint.  I have found a strange workaround which involves clicking the [File] tab on the ribbon in word 2010, then clicking "Save and Send" and then clicking the save button again.  At this point word 2010 seems to "remember" that it is trying to save document to sharepoint and shows the sharepoint document library. This is a real nuisance which could lead to documents being lost/misfiled if people don't realize that this is happening.  Can anyone help me? Thanks Kevin krd

Indexing files larger than 16 MB in SharePoint 2010

Tonight, I came across an interesting blog post by Fellow MVP, Todd Klidnt in which he explains how to work around the 16 MB limitation for file indexing in SharePoint 2010 using PowerShell. "As with previous versions of SharePoint, SharePoint 2010 will not index the contents of files larger than 16 MB. There are a couple of reasons for this such as network usage pulling large files across and the time it takes to break them apart". Click here to continue to the post.

Advanced Search tiff files sharepoint 2010

hi, I have a question about advanced search in sharepoint 2010 would love if you could help me: I have a document management system that contains files of different types. Performing a standard search system finds documents, Advanced search performed on the document properties the system can not find such documents tiff. We installed ifilter tiff by the following link: http://www.borghoff.com/post/2010/04/02/Windows-TIFF-IFilter-and-SharePoint-2007.aspx But it does not work. Maybe you have another solution for me? Thank you.

how do you package files with a feature in sharepoint 2010?

In my old sp2007 project, I would create a folder that would contain my feature, when it got deployed, any files would also be deployed along with them, so I could use them during feature activation later on (config xml files). How can I also deploy an xml file in 2010 along with my feature?nonam

RBS Maintainer not cleanup files in file system (SharePoint 2010)

Here's my environment:   Server #1: SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, RBS enabled Server #2: SharePoint Foundation 2010, RBS installed I setup RBS according to this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee663474.aspx successfully. And I can see the files are storing in NTFS file system instead of database. And then I'm configuring RBS Maintainer according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff943566.aspx . But it doesn't seem working as expected. I deleted the file from SharePoint Document Library and emptied recycle bin, even in site collection recycle bin. And even I delete the whole site collection. The RBS Maintainer doesn't delete the files in file system. I've updated the following rbs config on my content database for test: exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'garbage_collection_time_window', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'delete_scan_period ', 'time 00:00:00'; exec mssqlrbs.rbs_sp_set_config_value 'orphan_scan_period', 'time 00:00:00'; Maintainer output after I deleted the file, emptied end user recycle bin and site collection recycle bin : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer>"C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Remote Blob Storage 10.50\Maintainer\Microsoft.Data.SqlRemot eBlobs.Maintainer.exe" -Connect

This may be a DNS question.

New SP 2010 install, single server lab environment.
I can create and access site collections under the first web application SP2010 (Sharepoint 80, http://sp2010)

I have created another web application, different database, different port (777), and given it a different URL (test.otherdomain.com:777)
I have created a corresponging site collection (default team site).
Opened port 777 TCP incoming and outgoing in the windows firewall
Created a host (A record) in my DNS test.otherdomain.com (IP of the sharepoint server which is really called SP2010.mydomain.com)

nslookup returns the correct IP address, but when I type test.otherdomain.com:777 into a browser window I get
"Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed" both from another machine on the network and on the Sharepoint server.

Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint 2010 still using .pst files?

The Connect to Outlook feature in SharePoint Server 2007 uses a .pst file to store content that is visible in Outlook. This has caused issues in the past with a client's enterprise policy of preventing use of .pst files on desktops. This particular client has an application that periodically checks for .pst files and deletes them, which breaks the Connect to Outlook feature for them.

Does SharePoint 2010 use the same functionality to Connect to Outlook, or something different?

SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email Unique Files are Not Created.

SharePoint 2010 Incoming Email Unique Files are Not Created.

Description: In SharePoint 2010, when the document library is configured to receive incoming emails, the email attachments sent to document library should be saved as files. When files with same names received, the files should be saved with unique names.

Bug: The files with same names are dropped by SharePoint timer services. If the file with the name already exists in the document library, the newer file will not be saved.

Reason: In the SharePoint log, there is an error about "AddUniqueFile failed to create a file or folder. Filename: Dell Order 001.pdf Errorcode: -2130575305"

Checking the errorcode -2130575305, it is about "saveconflict", ErrorCode=-2130575305.

Error saving Office 2010 files opened from SharePoint Server 2007

I have recently started testing Office 2010 and have found only 1 major issue - I cannot save any Office 2010 files opened from a SharePoint Server 2007 location.  Upon save I receive an error message saying "Upload Failed. This file wan not uploaded because the specified path was not found on the server." and the file is captured in the Microsoft Upload Center.  Using the Upload Center action 'Open Web Site' opens the site without problem; however, a all subsequent resolve actions fail.  Any ideas?

Sharepoint 2010 WSP Deployment problem. Can't deploy new files.

We have found a problem with our deployment to a production server that runs Sharepoint 2010 Publishing Site Collection.

We are deploying WSP packaged from Visual Studio to Sharepoint Management Shell. It has worked like a charm in the past. We added a custom masterpage, css files, images and later we successfully added custom page layouts.

I also have SP running locally on my computer and everything works fine with no problem adding new files via deploying Feature. I can add them neatly into a document library or even create new folders from the Elements file.

However the problem arise when I deploy my WSP to the production server. I want to add a few JS files and a XSL file to the Style Library but the files won't get added to the document library. The deployment process goes smooth though with no errors and when I check my feature in Sharepoint Hive, the new files are there on the physical drive! However they won't get added to the virtual Document Library.

I can update existing files like the masterpage and CSS files so the feature that is deployed is working.

My guess is that either it has to do with permission problems or some bug in my code. But I did exactly as we have done before when deploying.

This is how my Elements.xml file looks like:

SharePoint 2010 Master page feature stapling - not sure where to put files

I have successfully added a branding feature to my 2010 environment that activates on install. Just as expected, it does not work for subsite creation. I have seen a number of articles/blog posts on how to create a feature stapler for SP2007. However, I am having a hard time finding a working solution for SP2010 using VS2010.

I have a couple of questions that I hope someone can point me in the right direction on:

1. In my project I have a branding feature, this contains the EventReceiver that applies the change. Can I have a second feature here that does the stapling or does it need to be in a completely seperate project?

2. Everything I read points to two files feature.xml and elements.xml, are both of those supposed to be under Features in Solution Explorer or are they located somewhere else or do they need to be create. If they need to be created, where do they belong?

3. In the EventReceiver.cs file there is a GUID that was automatically generated. Is this the GUID referenced in the feature.xml?

Hopefully with these questions answered I can move forward and find a solution to getting the stapler working.

Collaboration on Word 2010 files that are saved in a Sharepoint 2010 Shared Document Library.

We have installed Sharepoint 2010 and Office Web Apps on a 64-bit Windows 2008 server. Excel 2010 files can be collaborated among different users (i.e. user status bar is showing the number of users accessing the Excel file) when the file is edited using Edit in Browser option. However, we cannot get Word/PowerPoint 2010 files to collaborate in the same manner (i.e. no user status bar).

Does the collaboration feature work for Word/Powerpoint 2010 using Office Web Apps or it is available for Excel/OneNote 2010 only?

If collaboration is also available for Word/PowerPoint 2010 using Office Web Apps, any ideas why Excel 2010 works for us and not Word/PowerPoint?

Thank you in advance for your help and clarification.

sharepoint-2010 how to open files that prompt for save or cancel

In SharePoint 2010, there is a new setting at the web application level called Browser File Handling (Fig. 1). You get to this setting with these steps:
.Central Admin > Application Management > Manage Web Applications
.Single-click the row of your web application
.Click General Settings in the ribbon
.Scroll down to Browser File Handling and select Permissive

Browser File Handling settings

By default, this is set to Strict when creating a web application. However, this causes issues in many ways related to opening certain files from SharePoint. The most obvious example is with PDFs. When set to Strict, a PDF can only be Saved (downloaded), but in Permissive mode, the PDF can be opened directly. For instance, here are the different results when clicking on a PDF in a SharePoint 2010 Document Library:

Opening a PDF in Strict mode

Opening a PDF in Permissive mode

As you can see, in Strict mode, I am prompted to Save or Cancel In Permissive mode, the PDF immediately opens without being prompted and in my case, my PDFs open in the browser by default (this is a setting you can change).

Another way this issue manifests itself is when opening versions in an InfoPath form library. Someone posted this issue on the forums, and when I didn''t experience the same issue, I immediately thought of Browser File Handling. Mine was alre

Clean Web.Config Files (VS 2010 and .NET 4.0 Series)

.NET 4 includes a new version of the CLR, and a new .NET 4 specific machine.config file (which is installed side-by-side with the one used by .NET 2, .NET 3 and .NET 3.5).

The new .NET 4 machine.config file now automatically registers all of the ASP.NET tag sections, handlers and modules that we've added over the years, including the functionality for:

.ASP.NET Dynamic Data
.ASP.NET Routing (which can now be used for both ASP.NET WebForms and ASP.NET MVC)
.ASP.NET Chart Control (which now ships built-into ASP.NET V4)
What this means is that when you create a new "Empty ASP.NET application" project in VS 2010, you'll find that the new default application-level web.config file is now clean and simple:
