Having read in  that to connect to the database engine from another computer using SSMS
"In the Server name box, type tcp: to specify the protocol, followed by the computer name...
type tcp:<computer_name>. In our example for a named instance, type tcp:<computer_name>,49172",
why do I connect to remote server without adding "tcp:"?
I do not remember adding "tcp:" connecting to earlier versions of MS SQL server either...
