Doesn't restart sql server rollback uncommitted transaction?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
hi, i executed a long-running sql in the management studio. The sql updates many rows and all updates are within a transaction. After runing 30 mins, the hard disk is full. That's because of the uncommitted updates. Then, i restarted the sql server because I thought after restarting, the uncommitted transaction is rollback and the occupied hard disk space is also released. But i found that the transaction is rollbacked but the hard disk space is not released. Why the hard disk space is not released? how can i release the disk space now? Thank you for your help.

SQL Server Database Transaction

A transaction is a group of SQL commands executed together as a single component of work to be accomplished. If all of these commands succeed, then a transaction is committed - the changes to the data are made final. If any of the commands within a transaction fail, then the entire transaction is cancelled, or in SQL Server terms, the transaction will be rolled back.

Transactions are one of the things that keep your data safe, but they're not necessarily easy to understand. Here's some help:

ASP Development Server doesn't appear to execute JQuery?

Experienced a really strange problem today. I added a jquery script to my MVC application to collapse sections of a View (via divs).

Pretty standard stuff, he showed me the script working before hand and it works.

However any time I would run my MVC app via Visual Studio the script would not work. I changed browsers, re-imported the code from source control and basically me and my co-worker banged our heads together for some time trying to figure out why the exact same code was running different on two machines.

Publishing the MVC app to our web server and running worked for both machines but for some bizarre reason when I ran it on my VS it never did.

One thought that came to mind is that by VS uses the cassini default lightweight webserver for debugging, whereas my co-worker is using IIS.

This seems to suggest then that the ASP Development server does not support JQuery. Is this true and if not, what could the problem be?

AsyncPostBackTrigger doesn't work on server..

I am new to asp.net and ajax. I have a problem while using update panel.
I have a tabcontainer with 3-4 tab panels. Inside one tab panel there is a cancel button. What i want to do is to when i hit cancel button in code behind i change active tab index to 0 so that tabcontainer shows first tab panel. I have update panel around tab container. This works at my localhost. But on server its behavior is very random. Sometimes it works sometime it doesn't. Unfortunately I am not able to debug it also. I don't know how to debug code on server. As on localhost it works correctly so I am kind of stuck.

SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied while connecting with Access 2010 ODBC

Hello all. I am using Access 2010 and SQL Server 2008 (locally). I can easily connect to server using SSMS and it works excellent. But when I want to import a table to Access 2010 using ODBC, it says that "SQL Server doesn't exist or access denied". It worked previously - almost 3 days ago, but now, it doesn't! Please help! Thanks Mohammad Javahery

Replication Wizard doesn't like SQL Server Alias

I tried creating a new replication but I get an error that says, "SQL Server replication requires the actual sever name to make the connection to the server. Connections through a server alias, IP address, or any other alternate name are not supported. Specifiy the actual server name, 'SomeMachineNumber'." I don't get this. Why can't I use an alias? I googled and found few articles but not sure if I understand what others are talking about. Here is how I have things set up and I'm hoping someone can explain to me what is happening. On my machine, I have the following alias set up. Alias Name: SQLDEV, Port No: 2433, Protocol: TCP/IP, Server: SomeMachineNumber In Mgmt Studio, I can connect to the server SomeMachineNumber by using the alias SQLDEV. However, if I try to create a new publication on SQLDEV, I get the above error. Now, just for the heck of it, I created another alias using the same properties as above except, I named the alias the same as the server, "SomeMachineNumber". I connect to the server in Mgmt Studio using the new alias, and now I am able to create the new publication. Does this make sense? Am I not still using an alias in the second example? Why does the replication seemingly like the alias "SomeMachineNumber", but not "SQLDEV"?

SQL Server Express 2008 Setup fails. Support Rule "Restart Computer" Failed

Hi, I have been trying to install SQL Server Express for most of the day now without any luck.  Whatever I do setup fails at the stage of Setup Support Rules, Rule "Restart Computer" - Failed.  Needles to say I have restarted (several times!) and I have tried downloading  and installing the "Advanced", "Tools" and "Basic" versions, all give the same error.  Trying a repair does the same.  I have been searching the net for an answer without success, any help would be MUCH appreciated. Further info: I am trying to install a stand-alone installation on to a single PC running under XP SP 3 with .NET 3.5 SP1 installed.  The PC did have some earler versions of SQL server installed but I (?hopefully?) removed all of these through Control Panel.  Before trying the first SQL install I installed Windows installer 4.5 and PowerShell 1.0 as per the Microsoft Instructions. Running SQL Server Configuration Manager results in an error (MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap in might not have been installed correctly).  A directory structure for SQL server exists in "Program Files".  Services MSC shows SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) as Automatic Statup (not running).  Trying to start this manually gives error 14001: "application configuration incorrect - re-install to fix" .......... Which is precisely what I'm trying to do.........:(

Custom SharePoint Timer Job doesn't run after changing code and restart timer services.

Hi We are facing an issue that our custom SharePonit Timer Job doesn't run after a changing the code. First, we developed and deployed a timer job. It worked fine for a few days, then we detected a memory leak and killed the OWSTIMER.EXE. (Maybe we should uninstall the timer job and restart the timer services nicely). We fixed the problem, redeployed the fix as a feature (assemblies are re-GACed ...) to our small SharePoint farm (one web server, one services server), restarted the SharePonit Timer Services. Now we can see the time job in Timer Job Definition in Central Admin but the job never runs (Since it doesn't run, the timer job status page doesn't have any info about it). We tried the same process in a dev environment with SharePoint signle box installation. The timer job just works fine. I did some search on Internet and followed some instruction to clear the cache from "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\1d50d73c-9bf1-4444-85a9-910ed050d1bf" by 1. Remove all the xml2. Clear the cache.ini with "1".3. restart the timer services. It still doesn't fix the problem.Please advise what else I can do. I even rename the timer job and redeploy it. It doesn't help. I checked the even log and SharePoing log and couldn't see anything wrong. Our OS is W2K8.         public override void FeatureActivated(SPFeatureReceiverProperties properties)        {

Sys.Data.DataContext.saveChanges method doesn't send update to server after DataServiceException ex

Hello,I have a page with a simple form that updates a single record in a table in my database. The database is accessed via WCF Data Services. To load and save data from/to the server, I usethe Sys.Data.DataContext object provided by the ASP.NET AJAX library. When the "save" button on theform is clicked, I use the saveChanges method of the Sys.Data.DataContext object to send all changes to the server. Also, at the server side, I use an interceptor that checks the "Price" fields of the record, and throws a DataServiceException exception when the contents of the field is a negative number. Both the JavaScript and the interceptor (in C#) are copied below. Here is the interesting thing:When I enter a negative price in the form, the interceptor throws the exception and my form shows an error message. Good. However, if I then make one of the other fields in the form a bit shorter (for example from "abcd" to "abc"),the saveChanges method doesn't send the data to the server. But it does call the success callback that I passed in to saveChanges, creating the impressionthat the data has been saved. This happens while the Price field is still negative. I used Fiddler to make sure thatno message is sent to the server. Also, the interceptor doesn't get executed. The weird thing is that if I make one of the fields a bit longer instead (for example &q

Why doesn't SQL Server 2005 Enterprise always shrink a log file after a backup?

I have several databases that, despite being backed up regularly, do not release space to the operating system.  In one extreme case, I have a log file that is less than 1% utilized (and has been for months.) I know how to manually force a shrink, but I should not need to do that on any sort of regular basis.  In fact, it is against best practices to manually shrink a log file (or any database file for that matter) because of the very high risk of an unrecoverable error. It is my understanding that SQL Server will eventually handle these things on its own.  However, it does not appear to be doing so.  Any thoughts as to why? Thanks, Dave

SQL Server + .Net | Transaction | Can Transaction level be esclated

Hi We are facing a unique problem which ends up causing deadlocks. We have found that We have a very heavy load OLTP Sql server 2008. In .net code we set the Transaction isolation level to Read commited while executing a SP. We find deadlocks and in the dead lock details it is explictly called out that the SP in question was executing in transaction level serializable. Lets call this SP1 The only other thing we can say is that there are some other unrelated stored procedures which access the same tables as SP1 and are executing in isolation level serializable. Is it possible for one SP to escalate isolation level like locks are escalated? We found the following links which hint this, by saying that isolation level is just a hint. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229978(v=VS.90).aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2008.04.blocking.aspx?pr=blog http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189857.aspx http://aartemiou.blogspot.com/2009/01/table-level-locking-hints-in-sql-server.html Any help in this regard will be great.

COM Server process compiled with /clr option doesn't unload itself from memory when last COM client

I created Visual C++ ATL project in VS2010, exe type, imlemented COM object, then added /clr option to project. Project uses other C# dlls (WCF service). When last COM client disconnects and last COM object instance destroys, WCF service stopped, my COM server process doesn't unload itself from memory. All managed threads in C# dll are background, COM object doesn't create threads. How can I unload server process? Thank you in advance.

SharePoint 2010 - The license state for the current server doesn't match the farm's license state.

I already have a SharePoint 2010 server built, up and running. Yesterday I built a brand new server Windows 2008 and installed all necessary windows updates. Then I joined the server to the domain where the other SharePoint 2010 box is. Today, I installed all necessary pre-requisites for SharePoint 2010 including the KB971831. After that I installed SharePoint 2010 binaries on the new server. When I run the configuration wizard now, it sees the database server with the configuration database, but will not allow me to join the new server to the farm. I get the following error in the diagnostic logs. Resource retrieved id ConfigurationDatabaseTaskConnectFailConfigDisplayLabel is Failed to connect to the configuration database. 02/18/2010 17:54:12 8 INF Leaving function StringResourceManager.GetResourceString 02/18/2010 17:54:12 8 ERR Failed to connect to the configuration database.   An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: The current server cannot be joined to this farm because the set of installed products does not match the products installed in the farm.   The license state for the current server doesn't match the farm's license state.
