Managed Service Accounts

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Can I use a Managed Service Account to access a SQL server database? The docs say MSA's were created to ease passsword management to  Exchange and IIS.  However, the FAQ says not supported for SQL and Task Scheduleer.  I'm not sure if the FAQ is referring to the service accounts sql runs under or login accounts to sql server. I would like to use MSA's for: 1.    an exe that needs to run nightly to move SQL data around 2.  an IIS Application Pool where the associated website needs to get sql data off a remote sql server.   http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd548356%28WS.10%29.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff641729%28WS.10%29.aspx

Can´t set up local system accounts as service accounts in sharepoint 2010

HI I made an inplace upgrade to sharepoint 2010. I want to setup performance point services. but it doesn´t allow me to set a local system account as the application pool account for performance point services application. It doesn´t allow me to register a new account it says The specified user account "domain\username" is a local account. Local accounts should only be used in stand alone mode. The application pool account for the site collection that I upgraded is a local system account so I don´t get it? I tried this http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/fromthefield/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=112 However the upgrade fails after this. Is there any way that I do the inplace upgrade and it would allow me to use local system accounts has service accounts? Without Active directory? Thanks

Is it possible to implement your own version of the Managed Metadata Service?

Hi, It would be nice to provision a new instance of the Managed Metadata Service where the service is not implemented by Microsoft.SharePoint.Taxonomy.MetadataWebServiceApplication, but a custom provider. Is it possible to expose your own service as a Managed Metadata Service?

Managed Accounts - Generate New Password causes "The password does not meet the password policy requ

Hello, We are setting up our SharePoint 2010 Farm. I liked the idea of the managed accounts with auto-generating passwords managed by SharePoint. So I setup all my accounts as managed accounts and scheduled several of them to update the password weekly. After the "update" happened my farm went down. So I manually reset passwords and went back into Central Admin to see what was going on. From the managed accounts I tried to manually update the password of my Farm account with the Generate new password functionality and get this error. Error The password does not meet the password policy requirements. Check the minimum password length, password complexity and password history requirements Servers are in a domain with a one-way trust to a parent domain. Thanks!

So I've already installed hot fix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976394.  Rebooted server and I still get this message.  The account being used is part of local adminstrators group and has full connection permissions for managed metadata service.  Is there anything else I'm missing or needs to be done?

THis is a fresh install. I get the error  'The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or Managed Metadata Web Service may not have been started. Problem with service accounts on French Vista or W7

Hi folks, According to all the Microsoft documentation that I can find, if I want to set up the service accounts with system authority in a French system, I must use the term "AUTORITE NT\SYSTEM".  This works fine on a French XP but fails on a French W7 (and possibly Vista and W2008 I figure).  I have managed to install on a Dell using the term "AUTORITE NT\Système" instead.  Can anyone confirm whether the Microsoft documentation is totally wrong and, if not, what the heck is going on?  Thanks!

Proxy Managed Metadata Service Error

Hi I've deleted my web apps installed a language pack and then I've created new web apps and site collections on them with the new language (not reinstalling all again). On my portal I've made a Content type based on Document Set with a few Custom columns based on some taxonomy created before. My problem is that the new Content type was created like one which was created before deleting my web apps (the custom columns are the same), and now when I publish it the other web app is importing the old content type first (FROM WHERE I DON"T KNOW) and when tries to import the new one (which has a column with the same name) the Proxy Managed Metadata Service gives an error 'Filed internal name conflict.....' If I click on managed Metadata Service url http://portal/_layouts/mngctype.aspx  the old Content type of course that it's not present. Where should I search for it to delete it ? Thank's  Sorin Sandu

Configure managed accounts - object reference not set to an instance of an object - error

I was working in central admin and activated the managed accounts password change for the farm account with the option to change the password now.  I got the email notification that the password was changed and it seems in the log files that it did update all the credentials that were used with the account.  Problem is now that when I hit the configure managed accounts link in central admin all I get is the error: Error Object reference not set to an instance of an object.  Troubleshoot issues with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation. Managed Metadata Service - No EMM application proxy can be found

Access denied on "Configure service accounts"

Just installed a standalone, developer's instance of Sharepoint 2010 on my Windows7 workstation per the instructions outlined in the MSDN article:

When I try to click on the Configure service accounts link on Sharepoint Central Administration site, I get an access denied error.  My windows ID is local to the workstation and it has full administrator rights.  My Id is in the Farm Administrator's group plus the BUILTIN\Administrators group.  Why can't I access this link?  Everything else appears to working fine (still testing).

The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available.

I've been trying to create new Managed Metadata services but get this error when trying to manage them:
The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or Managed Metadata Web Service may not have been started. Please Contact your Administrator.

I've checked that the application pool that the Metadata service uses is running and that the account it's running under is in the farm administrators group. I've checked that the WCF hotfix is applied on the system by re-downloading KB971831 (I have Windows 2K8 SP2) and trying to run it again but it says it doesn't apply to my system (as I had installed it before installing SharePOint)

I'm not sure what else to do - can anyone give any pointers?
