SSIS Connection Configuration

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
Hello,   I have a bunch of packages that use different connections. I would like to put all these connections in the a sql config file and use only the needed connections for that package when executing. Right now when I run a package that doesn't use all the connections in the config table I get errors for all the other connections.   I would like to keep all the connections in one table for easy management, is this possible and even if the package does not use all the connections.   THanks, J

SQL Server Configuration Manager: Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion

I have a SQL Server 2005 box that was moved from a domain environment to a non-domain environment and was never dropped from its original domain before moving over.  Subsequently a new domain was created at the data center this SQL Server box now resides in.  The machine was dropped from its old domain and joined to the new one.   All the while the service accounts were set to the local admin account.  When I tried to start the Configuration Manager I got the message "Connection to target machine could not be made in a timely fashion.".  I read some blog entries and tried changing all the service accounts to Local System and the error message still came up.   All of the SQL Server services run fine.  It is just this management console that I cannot open.  I wasn't with this employer when this box was moved to the data center so I do not know if it worked prior and there isn't anyone here that could give me its history.   Any help would be appreciated.

Can not get excel connection when calling an SSIS package from ASP

I have an SSIS package importing data from excel. I have coded it and deployed it on the sql 2008 server. I then execute it via a stored procedure with the following: select @cmd = 'C:\"Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\100\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /sq "HRIS"' select   @cmd = @cmd + ' /SET \Package.Variables[User::path].Properties[Value];"' + @path + '"' exec   @rtn = master..xp_cmdshell @cmd   This works fine when  i execute it on my local machine. But when I try to call this Stored proc from my asp app (classic asp, not .net) I get the error: Code: 0xC0202009 Source: HRIS Connection manager "SourceConnectionExcel" Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Unspecified error". End Error   Any help would be greatly apprecitated

SSIS Excel Connection Manager Data Type Conversion Issues with SS Agent Job

Hi All! I have an issue I've been trying to fix but can't seem to figure it out. I was hoping a kind person would point me in the right direction. :o) I have an SSIS package that uses an excel connection manager source, and I want to run this package through a job scheduled in the SQL server agent. The data types for the excel file fields are 2 (DT_WSTR) and 5 (DT_R8). When I run the package directly through the SSIS package (VS solution) all of the data fields are properly imported into the database table. But...when I run this package through the SQL server agent job, ONLY the string (DT_WSTR) fields in each row are being imported, all of the float fields are imported as NULL. I set the data types for these float fields as "float" in the SQL server import table (data type). Even though the excel source float fields are indicating a type of DT_R8 in the excel connection manager and I set the data types in the SQL server table to "float", I also used the data conversion component and set the type to "float" as a fail-safe. I guess I should add to that the data access mode in the excel connection manager is using a custom code to select only those columns that I needed and to trim rows that I didn't need. Here's my code that I have in the excel source editor: select f1, f2, f3, f5, f6, f7, f8 from [mdo$] where f2 <> 'Rep Name'

SSIS package - change Web reference's addres from Configuration file?

Greetings. The SSIS packages provide very nice options to configure them from an XML file, which allows to change credentials, database names etc w/o editing the package. This lets me, say, transfer package from one server to another or from test to production w/o any hassle - just changing the xml. Problem is, i need to acces a web service in my package, and built-in SSIS web service task is useless and just SUCKS. It fails to work even with miscrosoft's own sharepoint web service. So, i have to use scripting task. And scripting task uses "web reference" to access web services, which in turn gives no way to change it's url.  So, if i want to test and then move to production, i'll have to edit my package to change the web reference url from "testserver:5123/mywebservice" to "productionserver:81/webservices/mywebservice". And then change it again to test it again. Etc. Is there a solution to this? A way to programmatically change web reference's url from inside scripting task?

Implementing Transaction in SSIS Package - [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "<

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server. When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good. Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error. [Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection. "NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server. Please respond if anyone has any solution. Thanks! Anand

SSIS 2008 - Excel Source using SQL Connection cancels as soon as package runs.

Let me preface this by saying I'm brand-new to SSIS development. I'm using 64-bit SSIS 2008 and I'm trying to read an Excel spreadsheet using OLE DB. I've already run into and corrected the Run64BitRuntime problem.  Now when I invoke the Package it cancels immediately with the following output: SSIS package "Lesson1X.dtsx" starting. Information: 0x4004300A at Data Flow Task, SSIS.Pipeline: Validation phase is beginning. SSIS package "Lesson1X.dtsx" finished: Canceled. The program '[5400] Lesson1X.dtsx: DTS' has exited with code 0 (0x0). When I edit the Excel Source component itself there are no errors and I am able to Preview the results successfully.  If I use Table or View to access the file, the package runs successfully. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Issue with Connection of Sybase in SSIS and Linked Server in SQL Server

Iam having problem connecting with Sybase from SSIS or Link Server of SQL Server 2008.

 I have installed Sybase 12.5.1 OLE DB Driver and have also registered by running command:

 C:\sybase\DataAccess\OLEDB\dll>regsvr32 sybdrvoledb.dll

 We are also able to create System DSN from ODBC Administrator in Windows 7. I am also able to import data in the MS Access. Here is the System DSN I created, successfully.

 I would really appreciate you can help us out.

start SSIS package via script task with package configuration via variables

it is possible to start ssis packages with dtexec and set variables as package configuration like this:

dtexec.exe /SQL "\mart1\import_fact_calls" /SERVER "R08" /SET \package.variables[FullImport].Value;True

Now I'm trying to start a package via script task with this code:

Public Sub Main()
    Dim pkg As New Package
    Dim app As New Application
    Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult

    If Dts.Variables("package").Value <> "" Then
      pkg = app.LoadFromSqlServer(Dts.Variables("package").Value, "R08", "USER", "PASS", Nothing)
      pkgResults = pkg.Execute()
    End If

    Dts.TaskResult = ScriptResults.Success
End Sub

How can I add a package configuration like the one with dtexec to the script code?

I like any ideas, links, docus ... Thanks!

n-tier, configuration info, specifically connection strings

I have an ASP.NET project which is pretty n-tier, by namespace, but I need to separate into three projects:  Data Layer, Middle Tier and Front End.

I am doing this because...

A) It seems the right thing to do, and

B) I am having all sorts of problems running unit tests for ASP.NET hosted assemblies.

Anyway, my question is, where do you keep your config info?

Right now, for example, my middle tier classes (which uses Linq to SQL) automatically pull their connection string information from the web.config when instantiating a new data context.

If my data layer is in another project can/should it be using the web.config for configuration info?

If so, how will a unit test, (typically in a separate assembly) provide soch configuration info?

Thank you for your time!

Package configuration file with multiple connection strings

I am using the configuration file to read the connection string in the SSIS packages. In one of my packages i have to use two different connection strings. If i specify the second connection string in the config file, then the current package works well but other packages fails during validation saying the second connection manager does not exist in the package. Is it not possible to have multiple connection string in a single config file?

SSIS configuration files

Does anyone know if I can use SSIS configuration files to map a network drive?

Any help would be appreciated

Programmatic SSIS: reading Connection Type Specific Connection Manager properties

I'm trying to read Connection Manager properties, but am stumbling when trying to access anything  beyond the generic ConnectionManager objects. In it's stripped down format the code i'm using to read a Property is this:

string InputProperty = string.Empty;

PropertyInfo PropInfo = null; // Uses System.Reflection to get property info

foreach (ConnectionManager v in package.Connections)

	PropInfo = typeof(ConnectionManager).GetProperty(InputProperty);

However if i'm trying to read an input property that's specific to a type of connection manager, e.g. Flat File Connection manager property HeaderRowsToSkip, the above code fails as the ConnectionManager object only serves up a few generic properties.

Now, I assume that I need to cast or similar to get the IDTSConnectionManagerFlatFile Connection type...  but at this point I get lost. Can anybody give me a helpful pointer?

Cheers, James

SSIS Dynamic Connection Provider

I am working on SSIS 2008. My requirement is that I need to connect to SQL Server or Oracle datbase in lookup, but I will get to know this at runtime whether its SQL Server or Oracle. So one option is to create separate connection for each and use separate lookups. But my question is can I use only one connection and one lookup and achieve this? I short can I can change oledb connection provider at runtime?

SSIS Connection Failure in SSMS

In SSMS when I connect to SSIS it seems to work. When I try to expand teh MSDB folder under Stored Packages, I get a login failed message with some verbiage about the instance either being non-existent or not available. There are two instances installed on this machine - a default instance and a named instance. The MsDtsSrvr.ini.xml config file has "." for the server. I have tried the server name and IP address in this config all to no avail. Any ideas why this is happening?

SSIS as data source in SSRS connection string

I have a connection string

="/f c:\test\test2\test2\package.dtsx /set \package.variables[User::varfil].Value;" & Parameters!varempid.Value

but its not returning any results. I need a valid connection string.

Import Excel file with Data Connection into SSIS

I have got an Excel spreadsheet with a Data Connection that I want to import into SSIS. The problem is that the Data Connection does not seem to run at the time the file is imported, so it only calls "old" data.

How can I set SSIS up to run the Data Connection first, or is there something I need to change in my Excel spreadsheet setup?

When a person opens the Excel file normally, they first need to "Enable" the Data Connection in the Security Settings. Once that is done the data will update immediately. I wonder if that is something I somehow need to change to make it work in SSIS?
