External Lists and Infopath forms issue with Secondary Data Sources

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I've followed this tutorial for creating and customising forms for external data (http://blogs.msdn.com/infopath/archive/2010/03/11/customize-an-external-list-form-in-infopath-2010.aspx).  The only difference being that my seconday data source is not an XML file (I've tried database connection and existing sharepoint lists both internal and external) When running the design checker I get the message "Additional Data connections not supported" and my form won't publish.  Any ideas?

fx Controls instead of Drop Down Lists for Lookup fields in InfoPath Secondary Data Connections

I have a secondary data connection with a lookup field into another list. To display the fields text value instead of the index, I am using a drop down list which gets its choices from the linked list. This information is read-only so I disabled the control via formatting rule.

A calculated value control might be better suited, but my XPath skills are not very "developed". Has anyone done this before? Taken the index from the bound field and extracted the text value from a second data connection? Thx

wss2.0 Infopath 2007 'This form requires connections to data sources when it is loaded. At least on

Hi all

I have a user who receives the error 'This form requires connections to data sources when it is loaded. At least one of these connections is not available. As specified by the form designer, this form will not open' when trying to Submit an infopath form located on a WSS2.0 site.

The user has been having this issue since upgrading to Office 2007 and IE7. I have had the user run an Office Diagnostics but this has not resolved the issue.

I am not aware of any other users experiencing this issue.

Any ideas please?

SharePoint Data Source for InfoPath Issue

I've setup an InfoPath form which uses web services to pull an XML data source into the form.  The form works great internally, but when users on the extranet try to use it they get a "Cannot Access Data Source" error.  I have tried connecting to the web service via the extranet and it works just fine, but as a data source in the InfoPath form, extranet users cannot access it.  I've tried using both the intranet and extranet paths to the web service with no luck.  Any ideas?

import data from infopath xml forms to SharePoint list

Hi. I have this issue, a customer has an old application that consists of a SharePoint 2003 site and a 'forms library' with forms listing information about physical servers. The infopath (2003) form is pretty straight forward and has a few dropdowns from lists and so on. Now, we need to move this to 2010 and preferably to a list only using oob functionality. I would like to know if anyone has a clue as to how I can get the data from the hundreds of xml files into a list, could be to excel and then to SharePoint, or any means Necessary. I would prefer it if it can be scripted or done using standard tools from Microsoft, no 3rd party custom xml importer...(if it's not really good and free :-) ) ThanksThomas BalkestÃ¥hl - Technical Specialist - SharePoint

SQL 2008 R2 Custom Data Connection Issue with Data Flow - Data Sources

I have a custom data connection that we used in SQL 2005 to connect to a non-standard source to pull data.  We are in the process of upgrading to SQL 2008 R2 and I am running into an issue that hopefully someone can help me with.

I have upgraded my custom connection code for SQL 2008 R2.  I can set up a connection using the custom code inside of an SSIS package.  However, when I go to a data flow task and try to select a connection for a data source object, OLEDB or ADO.Net data sources, my connection is not available.  If I select new on the connection option, my connection type is not available.  To get around this in SQL 2005 I used the data reader source.  The data reader source is not available in SQL 2008 R2.  So I am stuck.

My custom connection is implemented as an IDBConnection.

Shared Data Sources permissions issue

I have created a Shared Data source in my Report Manager, granted my network account all the permissions to the connection. I build my report in Report Builder 2.0 (I have access to the necessary tables and views etc). I save my report to the report server. I can run the report through Report Manager, however, I can't run the report through Report Builder 2.0. I get the error:

The permissions granted to user 'domain\myusername' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

The odd thing is, if I create a report with an embedded data source, I can run it through Report Builder 2.0 until I save it to the server. Then I can only run it on the server (same as the Shared Data source), and not through Report Builder 2.0

Anyone have any ideas?

Sharepoint Foundation - Create and deploy custom edit/view forms for external lists

Firstly, we are using sharepoint foundation so Infopath forms are not an option for us.

We have a Visual Studio sharepoint project which deploys a complete sharepoint site. The site contains a number of external lists and we want to be able to create customised view/edit forms for these lists and add them to our Visual Studio project so they can be deployed as part of the new site. The idea is that we can deploy the solution to a fresh site with a default set of forms which can then be customised for different implementations of the site.

Here's the steps we have been using to try and do this:

1. Deploy the base project (BDC) to the sharepoint site

2. Create external lists based on the BDC content types

3. Use Sharepoint Designer to create new edit/view forms for the lists and set these as the default forms for the list

3. Save the site as a template

4. Import the template into a new Visual Studio project and select the lists we require. This gives us a List Definition, a pages module (with element file), an elements file and a schema file (both for the List Instance).

5. We then add the contents of the imported project to our main solution as follows:

  • Create a new List Definition (including List Instance)
  • Copy the contents of the imported Elements.xml to the Elements file for our List Instance.

InfoPath Forms Services has detected a mismatch between the user's data in the browser and on the s

Hi All,

I am getting following error message in my SharePoint Logs,

InfoPath Forms Services has detected a mismatch between the user's data in the browser and on the server. This may indicate the SESSION_STATE_PASCAL_CASED is not configured properly on a multiple front end farm or that a malicious user is trying to tamper with client data.

Any idea how to solve this issue ?

Surface data in external lists in Sharepoint Foundation 2010

I have seen numerous articles for the above, but they all just gloss over the step I am having a problem with, assuming nobody will have an issue with it.

I'm trying to create an External Content Type so I can use it to display external data (from SQL Server) in an External List.  When I get to the step to add the connection and the SQL Server connection dialog box appears, I enter the server and database names and click OK with the Connect with User's Identity radio button still selected and I get the error message: login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.  I've tried to read up on the different purposes of the radio buttons on offer on this dialog box but don't know which I should really be using and don't think I can create a target application ID anyway in Foundation (for the other two radio button options) as that has to be done in the secure store services.  Can anybody help with this?

SharePoint 2010 External Content Type and InfoPath 2010 - Numeric data type fields missing in InfoPa

Connected SQL data table to SP 2010 ECT from SQL table.  The SQL table has several fields that have a type of "numeric(3,0)".  The SP 2010 list shows all fields form SQL.  When we open up InfoPath Designer and reference the SP List data (from SQL) all of our numer fields are missing from the available fields list.

I amd going to try another data type but that hardly feels like a solution.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know!

Infopath form updating from secondary data connection initally, then not!

Let me set up what I am doing...

I have a table with multiple text boxes. Each of these text boxes pulls a total for it's corresponding item from a SharePoint List. Each item has 3 boxes that return three different totals.(Filters correctly into This week, This month, and Year to date).

When I open the InfoPath form initially all the columns return the correct totals. Now If I edit the date created on an item; so that it was created last month. Nothing changes on my infopath form. The created this month total remains the same.

I have my data connection set to update everytime a form is opened.

What am i missing?

Sorting or Grouping by "External Data" columns secondary fields - only possible for certain value ty

I have a BCS connection to an external system that provides various external data types.

I'm now adding an "External Data" column to a SharePoint list, selecting multiple fields of an external data type to be added as list columns. These fields have different data types, in my case string, DataTime and Boolean.

Editing the list view settings, I can only select the external entity as a whole, or it's Boolean fields for either "Sort By" or "Group By". The other fields are not offered for selection.

Is there any restrictions on which secondary fields of an external data type are supported for either sorting or grouping? Or is there something wrong in the definition of some of the external data type fields?

Thanks in advance for any help on this issue...

Importing Data into Sharepoint Lists from External Sql Server

I am looking to import data from  a Relational SQl Server Database that is hosted externally by a 3rd Part vendor. My task is to import all the data that is entered by the external customers into the Sharepoint lists. The external users are presented with a free form Registration page where they enter their data. For the internal users, we want to pull that data in real time and display in lists.

So inother words as soon as the data is entered on the form and user submits it, the database and the sharepoint list should reflect changes simultaneously.

Please give direction as to how can this possible.

Best way to get anonymous InfoPath data into multiple lists/libraries?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to create a solution for the situation I have.  I'm still pretty new to SharePoint, and very new to InfoPath.  I'm working with MOSS 2007 and I've created a browser-enabled InfoPath 2007 form that I need to make available to both anonymous users at the top level of my site, and AD authenticated users from within a secured site collection.  It will be important for me to be able to determine whether the form is being submitted by an anonymous or authenticated user, as it will have some fields that need to be handled differently in each case.  Once the forms are submitted, I need to be able to store them in a forms library in the secured site collection, and also create a list item in the top level site with some of the basic info from the form.  That list will be visible and searchable for the anonymous users.

After searching through this forum, I've found at least 2 possible ways for anonymous users to submit forms to a form library.  Right now I'm leaning towards having it submit to a web service which would handle the task of moving/copying the data to the proper places.  Would that be the best solution in this case, or am I missing something?

The next thing I'm not sure about is what my options are for presenting the form

Trying to use "Set Field Value" action in InfoPath to set values in a multiple selection lookup field. Does not not seem to be possible. Has anyone achieved this?

Testing InfoPath Forms with Rules using GetCommonMemberships Data Connection

I have my first InfoPath form coming up for testing. This uses a GetCommonMemberships data connection as a condition for various rules (for example, form load rules that switch views when the user is a member of a Packaging AD group). I’m not a member of any of the AD groups being used for these conditions and neither are the company’s QAs.

Because I’m not a member of any of the groups, I tend to set my rule up in reverse to check it. For example, if I have a rule where the DisplayName is equal to “domain\Packaging” (of which I am not a member), the control is not disabled for me. This assumes that the opposite is also true if I change the rule to is not equal to “domain\Packaging”. In other words, the control should not be disabled for members of that group but it should be for me.

How do you guys allow your QAs to impersonate different team members to properly test this without compromising the integrity of the form?

How to remove data connections dependancy from infopath forms?

Hi All,

In my Infopath forms there are hard coded data connections.

For example GetUserProfileByName data connection has url http://site_url:port/_vti_bin//UserProfileService.asmx?WSDL. Every time I want to publish the form to different site url, port, I have to modify such data connections. Is there any way to remove this dependacy or make it configurable from some central location.
