How to Perform Query Side Expansion of Synonyms in FAST Search for SharePoint

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
Hi, I have added Two Way Synonyms in FAST Search Keywords option in Site Settings. If I type the synonym alone, it works but if I type it with some other keyword, the search results in no hits whereas with the Same Keyword if i give the Main Keyword instead of its synonym, the search is successful. I understand that for this we need to do Query Side Expansion of Synonyms. I also tried to Set a Resubmit Flag to AddSynonymsAutomatically but this also failed. Can u pls suggest a way for this?

FAST search query is slow...

Hi, we are using fast search for sharepoint 2010. We are crawling an external data source and this is used for search queries. we have around 30 metadata properties and all are full-text indexed. however, the search operation is slow for a database of 5k records in intranet (webserver and database server are in different geographic regions). typically a 100 item search takes 9-10 sec. it get worse over internet and the search query varies from 10-45 sec for 100 items. Any pointers will be helpful. thanks.

FAST Search for SharePoint Dictionary Compilation Job systematically failing

Hello guys, Did anyone run into this problem? I just configured a SP2010 test server to use a freshly installed FAST Search Server and this job, which is scheduled to run every minute, fails systematically... Any thoughts on what might causing this? Below is the message reported in the Application logs The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.FSDictionaryManagementJobDefinition (ID ccc0e26a-ece9-4d49-ae10-5d46ef675c85) threw an exception. More information is included below. No elements matching the key 'contractType:Microsoft.SharePoint.Search.Extended.Administration.Service.LinguisticManagerService;name:http' were found in the configuration element collection. Thanks!

FASTSearchQueryException encountered when creating FAST Search query scopes in PowerShell

Hi, I made an update to an existing FAST Search query scopes. The updates are on the ExtendedSearchFilter parameter. Since the Set-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope PowerShell cmdlet does not work to update the parameter, I removed the existing scopes using Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope and created new scopes using the New-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope cmdlets. I have noticed that after creating the scopes, I sometimes encounter the "The search request was unable to execute on FAST Search Server" (FASTSearchQueryException) when executing query against the search scope. I am not sure if the exception is related to how the scope objects are disposed after running the Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchQueryScope cmdlet. I tried to look into the Event logs of the FAST search server but I was not able to see the error. I would like to ask the community if the exception can be attributed to the exsiting scopes that were removed then recreated.  Thanks. Sharepoint 2010 Fast Search - Searching Document set

We have a sharepoint 2010 Fast server. We are planning to use document sets to store documents with common metadata.(Previously were using zips in moss 2007). Now, the requirement is we need to return only  document sets even if the search results contain multiple documents within that document set. ie, if we searched for a keyword that was specific to a document within the document set, the search results should return the document set and not the individual documents. Please help!!! Thanks in advance

FAST search for sharepoint

Hi Guys,

I need to plan for our search but have no idea what to do. I am going to have about 30 site collections all over the globe but do not have any idea if the performance will be good?

Some of the sites will have very poor internet lines (64k) but the search results must still be fast. The content will be split into about 12 different locations and the data is about 36 - 40 terrabytes big.

Fast Search 4 Sharepoint 2010 Business Data Connectivity (BDC) - IEntity Could not be found

Hi, I am using Fast for Sharepoint and I have created a simple Employee database in SQL server 2008 and I am trying to crawl this database.

Using Sharepoint designer, I have created an external repository and I have configured it to look at my test database. After trying to crawl this database - I get two successfyul documents crawled - which are just junk documents. And 5 errors.  The errors say:

Error while crawling LOB contents. ( IEntity could not be found using criteria 'Id=2502'. )

I also noticed that if I was to disable "Defaul Action" from the BDC configuration, then I get all successful crawled documents. However, if I click on any of those documents in the search page, then it brings me to "unkown page".

This makes sense since Default Action (View Profiles) is disabled. Does anyone know how to avoid this error message above without having to disable Defaul Action check box?

P.S. I can also see that the connection between SQL Server - BDC - SP is working since when I create a user profile page, I can see that data populate.

SharePoint 2010 sql search query issues

I am using tool for testing SharePoint search queries (http://blogs.technet.com/b/speschka/archive/2010/08/15/free-developer-search-tool-for-sharepoint-2010-search-and-fast-search-for-sharepoint.aspx). I have tested some queries and received some strange results. For example:

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS (Title, 'get') ORDER BY Rank DESC

This query returns two results for me. And next one returns no results.

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE Title LIKE '%get%' ORDER BY Rank DESC

However I was expecting to receive two or more results.

Another example is:

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE FileExtension = 'txt' ORDER BY Rank DESC

This query returns one result for me. And next one returns no results.

SELECT Size, Rank, Path, Title, Description, Write, Filename, FileExtension FROM scope() WHERE CONTAINS (FileExtension, 'txt') ORDER BY Rank DESC

I was expecting at least one result from this query. I would like also to mention that issue #2 is reproducible for FileExtension property only.

Could anyone please help me with these issues. Thanks beforehand for any help.

Why is installing FAST Search Server on SharePoint Server not recommended?

According to the following TechNet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff381239.aspx, "Do not install FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint on the same server as SharePoint Server 2010." is commented in the Important section but there are no justifications to this "non-recommended" approach.  I've searched for an explanation but only found one entry that mentioned for performance reason.

Would you please provide me with an article to substantiate this performance or some other reasons as to why FAST Search Server "should" be installed on its own box?

Sharepoint Search Query Optimization

Unable to perform fulltext search for documents in some folders in an SharePoint Document Library

Issue Description : Keywords from certain folders in the Document Library  is not searchable via full text search. For example, the keyword “4MB7106” is not searchable, even though the document is available in the document library. This is content search in a file in a document library, NOT a file name. Any ideas?

MS SQL Server: Search All Tables, Columns & Rows For Data or Keyword Query

If you need to search your entire database for specific data, this query will come in handy.

So when a client needs a custom report or some sort of custom development using Great Plains, most of the time I will have to track down the data in the system by running this query and find the table(s) it is in.

SharePoint Gets Search Analytics

Microsoft's SharePoint Portal Server 2003 was sold into a large number of organizations based solely on the strength of the search tool. Organizations hungered for a way to find the data they had generated.

Using SharePoint Search feature in ASP.Net Application

Integrating ASP.Net application in to MOSS 2007 to utilize SharePoint Enterprise Search Feature can be done by using Business Data Search.

Content Query Web Part missing in SharePoint 2010

If you don't see content query web part listed in the web parts list, this is because you have not enabled "Search Server Web Parts" feature in site collection features. Enable this feature and content query web part will show in the list of web parts.
