SP2007 restore problem

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint

Hi, I'm restoring from an existing sp2007 server to a new sp2007 server using the central admin functions. I created my farm backup thru central admin.  Then i installed sp2007 and the same service packs on my new server.  NB The server has a different name.  The entire farm is on the one box i.e. sql server is installed on the same box as sp2007...i have this done on the new server as well. I then opened central admin on my new server and restored the whole farm using the central admin restore.  I did a 'new' restore and changed all pathways to be, for example, http://newserver:85.  However when i go to the pathway it goes to a dead link.  The resore seems to have been successful in the logs. I have looked on google and it says about doing some more config but im confused.  Can anyone point me to the steps im supposed to do at this point.  I want to get an exact replicia of my existing farm but just on the new server. Thanks for help...

Custom Web Part Problem After SharePoint Restore

Hi, I've recently moved our sharepoint site and databases (using Microsoft Internal Database) to another standalone server. I did a catastrophic backup and then restored it on the destination server successfully via the central Administration page. I have also copied our custom web part library dll to 'c:\windows\assembly' directory and 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\bin' directory. I also copied over the old web.config file to 'C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80'. However, I still seem to be missing something as I get the error below while loading the site. I haven't been able to find a solution so hoping someone has seen it before here. Has anyone seen this happen before? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Backup tools fro granular restore - Symantec BAckup Exec Problem

Dear all, we are facing a problem here. Our sys admin set up everything to run the farm backups. He is using Symanteck Backup Exec 2010. In that farm we have 3 web applications which represents 3 content databases on a separate SQL back-end machine. When the backup is done, the report tells the backup succeed. It happens that when we try to recover from the backups, we can recover from an item level from 2 of those web applications, but not from 1. It created the whole site backup, but we cannot dig in to recover an item or a subsite. Did anyone had this problem before? (I gave farm admin levels to the account used by Backup Exec to double check the rights. That user could log on to the site and indeed he could go to all subsites and all item levels. So it is not access I believe). Any other expiriences with this tool? What about other tools? We are having a demo of AvePoint soon. Does anyone worked with that before? Thanks in advance for any help. Regards, GoncaloGonçalo

Restore Problem with 2005 ..But working in 2008

Hi all,

 I am getting problem while restoring the backup file and getting "SQL Server cannot process this media family " error on SQL Server 2005. but It SUCCESSFULLY restored on SQL Server 2008. But the customer is telling this is 2005 backup and should be restored on SQL Server 2005. I executed RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM DISK on both 2005 and 2008. In 2005 it gave media related error ...and 2008 it didn't though error. Please suggest what would be the problem..

SMO.Restore problem...[SQL Server 2008 & VS2010]

Hi

Iam using SqlServer 2008. & VS 2010 ultimate.

When I try to take backup from my remote server Backup works fine. No problem. But when I restore via, SMO [SqlRestore] , its always
showing on that restored database as "Restoring...."

My requirement is to take backup & restore the database in other name...

Is there any idea to fix the problem?

Dim ThisYear as string="2010"

dim MyDTBaseName as string= "MyPartyAccounts" + ThisYear

dim PurDbName as string = "My Server Path\Par_SQLSMO_" + ThisYear + ".bak"

dim MyNwMdfNm as string ="D:\Temp\MyPartyAccounts_2010.mdf"

dim MyNwLdfNm as string ="D:\Temp\MyPartyAccounts_2010.ldf"

Dim MyRestore As Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Restore = New Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Restore

  MyRestore.Database = MyDTBaseName

  MyRestore.Action = Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.RestoreType.Database

  MyRestore.ReplaceDatabase = True

  MyRestore.NoRecovery = True

  MyRestore.Devices.AddDevice(PurDbName, DeviceType.File)

  MyRestore.RelocateFiles.Add(New RelocateFile("MyPartyAccounts", MyNwMdfNm))

  MyRestore.RelocateFiles.Add(New RelocateFile("MyPartyAccounts_Log", MyNwLdfNm))

  Try

   MyRestore.SqlRestore(MyServer)

  Catch ex As Exception

   MsgBox(ex.Message)

  End

Problem to group radio button across gridview rows

In general no one can easily group or make a single selection from radio button list inside gridview rows. There are a lot of way to make a single or unique selection from list. Here i want to share how i can address this problem in the most easiest way. Googling the problem most of the cases i saw the grouping in horizontal way. Thats why i tried to group the radio buttons in vertical manner. Let i have a requirement like below:

SQL Server Backup and Restore (video)

Restore your full backup, then run a few queries before you keep restoring transaction logs. Brent shows how to use the Standby option for restores.

In this five minute video, Brent demonstrates how to do it by creating a database, populating data, and then showing what disaster recovery is like by doing RESTORE WITH STANDBY.
