Moving sharepoint database from one drive to other

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I am having the sharepoint installed on c drive which doesn't have much space. Is it possible to move the content database to some other drive on the machine. If yes, then what is the procedure and do i have to make changes anywhere related to these changes? Also is there any possibility of something going wrong somewhere during this process? thanks in advance!

Moving Sharepoint 2010 Database

I'm planning on moving our sharepoint (2010) database from one server to another (SQL 2008), however the MSDN method recommends we setup a SQL alias on the sharepoint server and use the detach/attach method. Surely there is a better method to change the database server name instead of creating an alias on the sharepoint box?

SharePoint 3.0 stop logging after moving database

Hello! Our SP 3.0 logging and Usage Analysis Processing were used to working ok. After we moved database to another server for disk space reason, there is no new log file generated from the date of db moving. The logging settings and Usage Analysis setting are still the same. We tried disable / re-enable logging, it didn't help. From system log, I saw following errors, and then granted the service account all access to "IIS WAMREG admin Service" DCOM Config based on document found in MSDN. It still not help "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application ..." Could someone please share info/knowledge on similar issue and solutions? I really appreciate it! Thank you in advance! John

Monitoring and moving SharePoint foundation 2010 database on SBS 2008

I have successfully followed the white paper for upgrading SharePoint Services 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010. Other than an authentication link problem all went smoothly.

I do have two small problems. The Small Business Server console reports that SharePoint is not functioning (it is functioning as I can connect to the site), this is more a nussance as my daily reports are inaccurate and I hope if this is normal there is or will be a hotfix to repair the reporting. This also comes to the second more serious problem.

In upgrading the process moved the database from it's own drive back to the system drive. I should have payed more attention to the directories in the upgrade process. Live and learn. Since the reporting is wrong in the console the move database wizard also does not work. Knowing that SBS gets cranky when things aren't done with a wizard or in a super specific order, is there a proper way to move the database? I am beging to get the long list of warnings as the drive fills up.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Moving SharePoint Database to non trusted domain SQL server

We have SharePoint and SQL server in a extranet domain. We would like move the SQL server databases for SharePoint to our corporate SQL server (on the corporate domain).

The Corporate domain does not trust the extranet domain, and thus the web farm account cannnot be specified on the corportare SQL instance. If it possible to migrate the databases to a non tusted domain?

I've seen the script to create a new Config database using SQL authentication

psconfig -cmd configdb -create -server <SQL server name> -database <database name> -dbuser <SQL account> -dbpassword <SQL password> -user <AD user account> -password <AD user password>

Can I edit the config of SharePoint to point to the new SQL server, or do I need to create the entire sharepoint enviromnent again and attach the content databases?

I also have a SSP database that's heavily customised for searcvhing and the BDC. Will this need recreating again or can I move the BDC database  to the new server and attach?

Moving All Sharepoint Database to different machine

I am having Sharepoint 2010 Enterprise RTM Trial (Single Server Installation) on Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Databases are managed by SQL Server 2008 (not r2).

I want to move backend Databases to another machine for better performance. I have read the following article:

I need to know is there any alternate that can migrate all databases with ease ?

can I take backup of all databases, then restore them on another server and make connection to Sharepoint ? (if yes, please provide necessary details)

Do not see the table in Database after moving the project folder

I created a ASP.NET project under Visual Web Developer 2008. Under that project I had a Database (along with ASPNETDB.MDF) which has about 3/4 tables (I had SQL server 2008). Everything was working fine (like insert, delete, etc.). And I was able to view the tables in database explorer view.

Then I had to format my computer for some reason and I copied the whole project in a USB drive and then after formatting the computer I copied the folder and tried to open it in Visual Web Developer (now I have VWD 2010). I can see the both Database under App_Data folder (ASPNETDB.mdf and the DB I created). ASPNETDB has all the tables and data as expected. But I do not see the tables under the DB I created.

I also tried in one of my friends computer who has Visual Web Developer 2008. But same result.

I am just wondering if anyone can help me with retreiving the table. I have a bad feeling that I might needed to do something to backup the data (not sure though). But the tables should be still there ... isn't it ?

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

WSS 3.0 - problem with moving the database

My company wants to move a database included with WSS 3.0 installation to a *separate* server.
We want to have the database completely separated, on a different computer, on SQL Server 2005 installation.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure If the sharepoint is configured as a "Web Front End" or  "Stand-alone".
All I know, everything currently is on the same computer, and we can connect to the live database using the following path: \\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query

The question is, how can we move the database to SQL Server 2005, on very different server, leaving the application untouched?

Quick summary, we currently have:

--- Server A: (WSS 3.0) + [windows internal database / SSEE (not sure!)] + DOMAIN X

and we want t

Moving SharePoint 2007 from Domain to a Workgroup

For development purposes, we have SharePoint 2007 installed on a virtual server (Wind 2003) on a company desktop (Vista Business ed.).  The SharePoint is using Active Directory and company domain. For learning purposes, we want to copy the virtual machine on another Vista machine that is outside the domain and is not using AD:

Question 1 : How can we move the SharePoint from a domain to a Workgroup
Question 2: Is it possible to still be able to use emails (through local installation of Outlook) on the same computer that is not on the domain? If, yes, what are the possibilities (any articles on it? Etc.)?

SharePoint List with Hyperlinks Stored in a Database

To all,

I need to display a List of Hyperlinks that are stored in a database. I want it to be a SharePoint List so it can be Indexed and Search properly in SharePoint.

SharePointSite Table - Columns:SiteName(nvarchar(256)), URL(nvarchar(256))

Example: Acme Foods, http://www.acme.com

I need a List that shows:

Acme Foods and is a clickable hyperlink  to http://www.acme.com

What is the best way to get access to the data and feed it to a List and then host it on a Site landing page?

This is meant to be a directory of Site Collections. We have 175 Site Collections that host our customers Report Libraries.

Word save file on SharePoint via mapped drive

Hi, I have a Document Library mapped to a drive letter. I am able to browse the drive through Windows Explorer. However when I try to save a document to the drive Word returns, 'Unable to connect to the Web server.' .  I have been unable to find any information regarding this error message. If I try to create a document in the Document Library through Windows Explorer and the mapped drive, I get a different error message: 'Unable to create the file 'New Microsoft Office Word Document.docx' There is no user session key for the specified logon session.' After I click OKand refresh the directory, a 0 KB New Microsoft Word Document.docx file has been created. When that file is opened, it is in Read-Only mode.

sharepoint New Item form database table

SharePoint Version 2.0 (WSS 2.0 SP3) Content Database restore to new farm

Is it possible to use an SQL backup from a sharepoint Version 2 SP3 database to restore the content on a new server farm and attach to a new web applicaiton. NOTE: This is WSS 2.0. In WSS 3.0 this is a very simple task, but it is not the same in WSS 2.0 (the add content database option CANNOT be used to attach to an existing content database like it does in WSS 3.0). The options I have found appear to say you need the configuration database from the old server then it can be done. I am migrating from an outsourced deployment, so I do not have access to that. Plan B is to do a sharepoint STSADM backup. THis seems to be a more likey way to do it.

SharePoint Database Consistency Errors

Hi All, I have noticed that my sharepoint content database contains many database consistency errors. I have run following SQL command to verify these errors ALTER DATABASE your_database_name SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE DBCC CheckDB ('your_database_name', REPAIR_REPAIR_FAST) ALTER DATABASE your_database_name SET MULTI_USER Now I want to remove them safely with any application error. Is there any method to remove these errors ? For Information: I know following SQL commands will remove these consistency errors but with data loss. I want to know what type of data will be lost and whether it is safe to run below commanrds with REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS parameter ALTER DATABASE your_database_name SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE DBCC CheckDB ('your_database_name', REPAIR_ALLOW_DATA_LOSS) ALTER DATABASE your_database_name SET MULTI_USER Thanks and Regards..

Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?
