How we Update DataContext's Table Implicitly in Linq using .Net 3.5..?

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 07, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net
Hi All.. My problem is i am working on Linq,as we know to use any table in linq we have to drag and drop it on our datacontext's Designer File,and at run time we got its value,till here no any problem,main point is if any changes in respective data source's schema has made ,then on datacontext we will not get that changes,for it we have to change this datacontext manually by by again drag and drop,it will not happen implicitly when this changes has been made on the data source. so please tell me how i solve this problem so that datacontext change implicitly without any over head  using .net 3.5 .

This is frustrating, and I don't know how to solve it.

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

        protected void LinqDataSource_ContextCreating(object sender, LinqDataSourceContextEventArgs e)
            e.ObjectInstance = new KaruselaDataContext(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["ConnectionString"].ConnectionString);

Then I get this error:
The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:
<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

LINQ Sorting After Goup w/ Table Reference

Having a little trouble here.  I am taking a table (Articles) and grouping all the results by the key that references another table (ArticleSectionCategories).  I then want to sort these results by the OrderBy field of the referenced table (ArticleSectionCategory.OrderBy).  This is what I am using right now but it is not working.  Any thoughts?

                var GroupedArticles = from A in DC.Articles
                                     where A.PackagesId == packageId
                                     group A by A.ArticleSectionCategoriesId into G
                                     select G.OrderBy(C => C.ArticleSectionCategory.OrderBy);

Sys.Data.DataContext.saveChanges method doesn't send update to server after DataServiceException ex

Hello,I have a page with a simple form that updates a single record in a table in my database.The database is accessed via WCF Data Services. To load and save data from/to the server, I usethe Sys.Data.DataContext object provided by the ASP.NET AJAX library. When the "save" button on theform is clicked, I use the saveChanges method of the Sys.Data.DataContext object to send all changes to the server.Also, at the server side, I use an interceptor that checks the "Price" fields of the record, and throws a DataServiceException exception when the contents of the field is a negative number.Both the JavaScript and the interceptor (in C#) are copied below.Here is the interesting thing:When I enter a negative price in the form, the interceptor throws the exception and my form shows an error message. Good.However, if I then make one of the other fields in the form a bit shorter (for example from "abcd" to "abc"),the saveChanges method doesn't send the data to the server. But it does call the success callback that I passed in to saveChanges, creating the impressionthat the data has been saved. This happens while the Price field is still negative. I used Fiddler to make sure thatno message is sent to the server. Also, the interceptor doesn't get executed.The weird thing is that if I make one of the fields a bit longer instead (for example &q

Update an accumlating shapshot fact table

This is my first time implmenting an accumulating snapshot fact table and I require some guidance. Accumulating snapshot fact tables show the status at any given moment. It is useful to track items with certain life time, for example: status of order lines.eg everytime there is new piece of information about a particular purchase, we update the fact table record. We only insert a new record in the fact table when there is a new purchase requisition. What I really need to know is how best to handle the updates.  This really feels very similar to managing SCD-1's in dimension processing! Anyone able to advise? thanks in advance Here is a perfect example we can use  http://blog.oaktonsoftware.com/2007/03/accumulating-snapshot-use-accumulating.html Figure 1, below, shows an accumulating snapshot for the mortgage application process. The grain of this fact table is an application. Each application will be represented by a single row in the fact table. The major milestones are represented by multiple foreign key references to the Day dimension—the date of submission, the date approved by mortgage officer, the date all supporting documentation was complete, the date approved by an underwriter, and the date of closing.

LINQ - Can't perform Create, Update or Delete operations on because it has no primary key.

Hi, not sure if I'm posting this thread in the right section. anyway, I''m trying to do the update/insert/delete using LINQ but the underlying table does not a primary key. The table consists of composite ket (e.g. fieldA & FieldB make a primary key). At the moment, I have LINQ complaning about not having a single primary key (not sure what LINQ does it - not making any sense at all). did anyone ever come across this issue and rectified it?  thanks

How to update List Items with LINQ?

In the code below, the For Each will loop through the list and populate the ListBox.  When I add "item.LeadTime = 5" to try updating an item, Visual Studio says that it is ReadOnly.  Any ideas on what's wrong or missing from the code? Update a record in a table?

HiI've been playing around with MVC lately, and was wondering how you could do this:I have a view that displays a list of products, and against each product is a list of categories (in a combobox). I'm trying to find out how you can update a product's category when you select a category in the list. I know you could do something fairly simple with jQuery, but I'm trying to understand how submitting forms works with MVC.Here's what I currently have:// Controller public ActionResult Index() { List<Product> products = _productRepository.GetProducts(); List<ProductCategory> categories = _productRepository.GetCategories(); ProductsViewModel viewModel = new ProductsViewModel { Products = products, ProductCategories = new SelectList(categories, "Id", "Description") }; return View(viewModel); } // ViewModel public class ProductsViewModel { public List<Product> Products { get; set; } public SelectList ProductCategories { get; set; } } // View <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> <table> <tr> <th>Id</th> <th>Description</th> <th>Category</th> </tr> <% foreach (var product in Model.Products) { %> <tr> <td><%: product.Id%></td> <td><%:
