Page.IsValid cannot be called before validation has taken place

This is my first asp.net application and it looks like I am in a rock and a hard place.  I have a multi page formview and I want to allow the user to page back with causing validation, but if I don't cause validation on the page back button, I get an error  Page.IsValid cannot be called before validation has taken place. It should be queried in the event handler for a control that has CausesValidation=True and initiated the postback, or after a call to Page.Validate.Source Error:  Line 41: Line 42:     Protected Sub FormView1_PageIndexChanging(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormViewPageEventArgs) Handles FormView1.PageIndexChangingLine 43:         FormView1.UpdateItem(True)Line 44:         If FormView1.PageIndex < 1 ThenLine 45:             FormView1.FindControl("ImpactsTextBox").Focus() Line 43 in the vb file allows me to update an item.   How do I get around this problem?  Is this where I need a "if not postback"?  Any examples would be appreciated.

Can google crawl and index this .aspx page?

I have a question. I will take the example exactly as it looks like.

Below I have an .aspx page and a .cs page. In the .aspx page There is alot of text written.

The .cs file as seen will in the Page_Load event redirect to another .aspx page which holds the real design to show for a user.

(I only create these below .aspx page for google to find and index. These are content like Thread and posts but when someone enter this page, it will redirect to the real desinged page and now know what text to read in there.)

My question is if this .aspx page below can be crawled/red/index by search engines like google. (To mention is that I do use a sitemap).

What worries me with this question is that I immediately redirect to another .aspx page.

Does this prevent google from having the ability to read the below .aspx page and index the content? How does this work?

<%@ Page Language='C#' AutoEventWireup='true' CodeFile='20100919194736.aspx.cs' Inherits='_20100919194736'%>

Response.Redirect cannot be called in a page callback error message.

Hi.  I'm using the Dundas Chart Controls in VS 2005.  These controls are built utilizing AJAX.  I have a basic page with a dundas chart control containing a funnel chart.  The funnel contains Quotes, Sales Orders and Invoices.  When the user clicks on the control, I want to determine whether they clicked on Quotes, Sales Orders or Invoices and transfer to the appropriate Details Page.  I've got the code working to determine which transaction type they clicked on; but, I get the "Response.Redirect cannot be called in a page callback." error when the page tries to redirect.  Note: I get a similar issue if I try server.transfer.

 Here's my code:

Dim hitTestResult As Dundas.Charting.WebControl.HitTestResult = Chart1.HitTest(e.X, e.Y)

If Not (hitTestResult Is Nothing) Then

                Dim clicked As Dundas.Charting.WebControl.DataPoint = hitTestResult.Series.Points(hitTestResult.PointIndex)

                Select Case hitTestResult.PointIndex
                    Case 0

Can I write Functions can be called from every page?

I have some functions which will be call in some pages. I don't want to define the same functions in every page as it will be hard if I need change the code.

I've already use a class to hold the common functions and use that class in the page if I need those function.

But the problem is:

Some methods in the aspx.cs page are not available in the .cs class. Such as "Session", "Responce.Redirect","Page".

Let's say I have a function which check the session value and redirect the user.

                string pId = Session["ProjectID"] as string ;
                if (pId != null)

These codes get error in the .cs class but only work in aspx.cs page.

I don't know which namespace should be used in the .cs class.

Is there a way I can write this function in one place and call it in the page?

Thanks and I hope I've stated the problem clear.

Best way to "ensure" that an ASMX web service is only called from AJAX on a specific ASPX page

I have an ASPX page which hosts a Custom Control.  That custom control needs to call an ASMX web service.  I would use a PageMethod, if the fact that I'm calling from within a Custom Control didn't preclude that.

I'm looking for some guidance on the most effective way to try and lock down the ASMX call such that it will only succeed for my users calling it from my ASPX page - and not for anyone trying to call it from elsewhere.  I've seen various ideas around session variables and so on.

What's the expert view, please?

Changing the graphics on the home page of a SharePoint site

When you create a site in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services by using the default Team Site template, the home page includes two default graphics. A Windows SharePoint Services graphic appears in the body of the page, and a picture of a house in a circle appears near the site title. You can change these graphics to customize your site. Changing the smaller graphic requires a Windows SharePoint Services compatible Web page editor

5 GridView Themes Based on Google's Personalized Homepage (igoogle)

One of the silly features I have found that I like about igoogle is how the pages color palette changes depending upon the time of day. So as the day progresses from morning to afternoon to evening the colors on the page change as well. Like I said, I know this is a silly feature, but I like it. And I have asked around a little bit and seems like other people like it to. To get a better idea of how the colors change, here are the background images from a few of the HTML elements.

Reduce ASP.NET Page size and complexity using JQuery

This is my first post on asp.net blog. ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery are two different ajax framework. In this post I will show, how we can enhance gridview using ASP.NET Ajax and JQuery. I also compare the implementation of these frameworks. In next posts i will explain more about JQuery and ASP.NET Ajax and also tell you "How to combine the power of both framework". My Future post will related to ASP.NET and related frameworks.

I have 2 web pages. First page has a textbox and a button control.

when I enter test and click on the button , system goes to the second page. And in the second page I want to access the Textbox in the first page. When I try to do this I get the following error.

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Following is my code :

Dim txt As New TextBox

' Find the server name on the previous page
txt = CType(Page.PreviousPage.FindControl("TextBox2"), TextBox)
If Not IsNothing(txt) Then
Response.Write("[Name Not available]")
End If

I know I could do this with session, but I want to use the Page.PreviousPage.FindControl. Any help is greatly appreciated

Unique content within master page based on conditions met

 Hi all-

I would like to present users with unique content based on certain conditions being met as they land on the home page (default.aspx).  The condition logic will be in the VB code behind Page Load event. The content will go in a content placeholder as specificed from the master page.

However, the content change wouldn't be something small (ie making a panel or label visible or not) but rather it will be different HTML,  Divs and databound gridview content.  The HTML content will be stored in the database.

Can someone point me in the right direction for best practices on how to accomplish this?

Launch CMD File From ASPX Page

My organization uses a CMD file to install updated files for a major enterprise application. Currently, we send out an email to users with a link to the file and instructions to run it, BUT inevitably users don't update their machines until their in field and try to start the app.

We're now liking the idea of using an ASPX page to prompt the users to run the updates and to capture the fact that the updates have been run. I realize that we can't capture the success or failure of the update. But we'd like to capture the user accessed the page.

Is it possible to embed into the markup for the page a link to the file on the local intranet that the users can click on to run the file?

The user accessing the page would capture that they did just that. We'd deal with wether or not the update was actually installed or if it failed later with them directly.
