Programmatically creating a SharePoint Site based on user input

I am working on developing a “Create Website Wizard” for SharePoint 2007 that would do the following (I am simplifying a little for the sake of this post):

1.      Take user input as follows:

Product Code:

Category (I, II, III):

The category will be a choice field (radio buttons or a dropdown)

Configure Navigation Inheritance at the time of creating the site

Repeating items in calendar break after creating a site based on a template

We have the following issue when using a calendar in a site that is based on a template.

We add a calendar to a blank site. This site we save as a template in the solution gallery.

We then create a new site based on a template. After creating a repeating item in the calendar list, the end date of the repeating item will be the end date of the repetition. So the new appointment is spread across 4 weeks for a repeating appointment that repeats for 4 weeks.

If you connect the calendar to Outlook the appointments are displayed correct.

Does anybody have similar results and can confirm this is a bug?

creating a code based on the evaluation

I would like to create a simple program, like a game, but so far without any graphical interface. Only a code, supported with some numbers, so that the user will know whats going on in the background.

I was thinking of creating a racing game (like formula 1 or sometihng similar), with available data (attributes) like:

Driver: age, agility, concentration, experiance, stamina,...

Car: engine, chassis, tyres

ISAPI Extensions: Creating a DLL to Enable HTTP-based File Uploads with IIS

The MIME-compliant content type, called multipart/form-data, makes writing HTML that uploads files almost trivial. On the server side though, ASP does not have a way to access data in the multipart/form-data format. The most flexible way to access the uploaded file is through a C++ ISAPI Extension DLL. This article describes a reusable ISAPI extension DLL that allows you to upload images and files without writing C++ code. It is coupled with a few COM components that make it readily reusable for ASP development. With .NET, this whole process is much easier, and this article shows preliminary code that uploads files using ASP.NET features.

Go Global: Designing Your ASP-based Web Site to Support Globalization

If you have a Web site for your business, you already have an international presence. But how can you make sure users in any country can access your site effectively? The Trigeminal Software site at http://www.trigeminal.com has pages localized into up to 48 languages and allows users to see pages in the language of their choice. This article describes how the site was implemented and how issues such as whether the site should use frames and what character set to choose for multibyte languages were dealt with. Which database to use for storing dynamic content, whether to use static or dynamic pages, and how to implement localized solutions on both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000 is also discussed.

C# - Creating web client for automating user activity on a HTTPS site

I've been wracking my brain for a couple of weeks on this.  I need to create a web client (I don't want to use the webBrowser control because I need this to be as lightweight as possible) to log in to a secure web site, and then effectively click links and fill in fields to get the data that would normally be displayed in the web browser.  I'm then going to parse the data and perform other actions with it. I have been working with HttpWebRequest and HttpWebResponse and many permutations of suggestions I have found while Googling my issue, but I can't get rid of my problem:  Sometimes when I effictively click the ultimate link that I need to click to get to my data, I get what I am looking for.  However, MOST of the timel, I get a response page that tells me my connection timed out and that I need to log in again.  I have tried messing with cookies and such, but to no avail. I know it's good form to post my code, but it is so sloppy and screwed up right now from tweaking this and trying that, that I'd rather not take the approach of fixing what's there, rather I'd like to start with solid, clean code to begin with. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, ALo

Silverlight - Creating Image Map with Hotspots

Recently I was working on a Silverlight application and one of the pages contains a graphic. One of the requirements is that the graphic should contain clickable regions (Hotspots) and display a dynamic navigation menu when the end users click on it. An image that contains one or more Hotspots or clickable area is called an image map. I have put together a simple tutorial on how to get this done.

Getting Started
Image map can be created by using Microsoft Expression Design or Expression Blend.

If you do not have Microsoft Expression Design, you can download a trial version from here.

Binding byte[] to image control in navigation application leaks

Hi there, I have a (minimal) navigation application with two pages. Page1 contains an image. Switching between pages is done via a buttonhandler in code behind, for instance, (this.NavigationService.Navigate(new Page2())) The image is loaded in code behind via: private void LoadImage() { string fileName = "./images/image.bmp"; if (!new FileInfo(fileName).Exists) throw new Exception("File name doesn't exist"); using (FileStream fs = new FileStream(fileName, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)) { this.ImageData2 = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(this.ImageData2, 0, System.Convert.ToInt32(fs.Length)); fs.Close(); } } ImageData2 is a byte[] property that sends a propertychange event on changing. ImageData2 is bound to an image in xaml: <Image Grid.Row="1" Source="{Binding Path=ImageData2, Mode=OneTime}"/> When we unload Page1 the following clean up code is executed private void Page_Unloaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { this.ImageData2 = null; GC.Collect(); GC.WaitForPendingFinalizers(); GC.Collect(); } Now, when I start changing pages, I expect the Page we leave to unload, so the GC removes the byte array. However, it doesn't. Am I missing something? Binding the image to a BitmapImage (ImageData1, as you might have guessed:-) ) doesn't leak.

Creating a "Save Button" in a browser based Form

I'm not sure if I'm missing something obvious, but I need to have the funtionality of the "Save Button", which is available and works on the tool bar, available in the form...and I can't seem figure out how to do it.I've found examples, in this forum, of how to use the "Submit Button" to act as the "Save Button", which did work for me, but only when specific basic criteria was met.The criteria that I now have is that I'm initiating a workflow to automatically start when a new item is created.  My workflow then moves the form to one of a few possible different form libraries, based on the logic in my workflow.  The different form libraries are to manage different teams of people that would have access to the Form and then that team would process the form accordingly. My specific situation: 1 - User opens a new form (works) 2 - User enters data and then submits the new form (works) 3 - Workflow is initiated and the form is moved to another form library to be worked on by a select group of people (works) 4 - The form is opened and reviewed and some changes are made to the form data by the select group of people (works) 5 - The form data in the form libary is updated (works, but only if the save button is pressed in the tool bar and then manually closes t

Navigation settings not applied when site created from template?

Hi, I created a customized site on MOSS and disabled Quick Launch and enabled Tree View on it. But when I create new site from this template it has Quick Launch enabled and Tree View disabled. I downloaded the STP file and looked inside and in the details <Details> ... <EnableTreeView>1</EnableTreeView> <EnableQuickLaunch>0</EnableQuickLaunch> ... </Details> Does anyone have a clue why it does not work correctly? Does this work for you correctly?

Global Navigation across Site Collections

MOSS 2007 Global Navigation across Site Collections I have couple of questions. a) Is there an easy way to share a global navigation between site collections? b) Portal has the navigation tabs (tab1..n). User doesn't have access to all the tabs, may have access to one or more tabs. Each tab represents a site collection. Is there a way to display the only tabs to which the users have access? If we can develop using SDK, please provide some hints.   Thanks,

Creating a new root Site Collection using a custom site definition file (ONET.XML)

Using Powershell, I am trying to deploy the our custom solution to SP 2010.  The script is doing the following: Deleting the web application using Remove-SPWebApplication Creating a new web application using New-SPWebApplication Adding and deploying a series of WSP files (one of which has the site definition file in it) using Add-SPSolution and Install-SPSolution Create a root site collection based on the site definition file provided in the WSPs using New-SPSite I get the error "WARNING: Template is not found and is not applied." When I run Get-SPWebTemplate, my site definition does not show up. I saw this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/sharepoint2010general/thread/5ea46e07-a4b0-4bab-b698-9b6eeb695607 but I want a solution that does not involve me reloading a DLL, as, I feel there is something else I am forgetting. I have also tried: IISReset Resetting the timer service Cleaning the Cache (as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939308) Nothing seems to work.  Does anyone have any ideas?

Can not init SPSite for claims based authenticated site

Hi, trying to write a simple console application i was not able to init a claims based authenticated site with API nor with the Managed Client OM. Opening a site with only windows authentication is working. Running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 and SP 2010 server and logged in as the buildin Administrator account. Administrator is Site Collection Admin. static void Main(string[] args) {     ClientContext context = new ClientContext("http://mypc:300");     Web web = context.Web;     context.Load(web);     context.ExecuteQuery();     ... } throws "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.". Setting credentials for the context is also not working. or same problem with     static void Main(string[] args) {     using (SPSite spSite = new SPSite("http://mypc:300"))     {         ... throwing FileNotFound-Error. In Sharepoint 2007 while creating a group "Give Group Permission to this Site" section is missing

I have a strange anamoly in Sharepoint 2007 but I am guessing I am missing some minor step since I am new to Sharepoint. I am trying to create a new group which I have done before successfully. 1.On the home page of the site,  I click Site Actions, point to Site Settings, and then click People and Groups. 2.On the New menu, I click New Group. 3.Type a name for the group, and then type a brief description of the group's attributes in About Me. 4.I change the owner of the group or click Browse to find an individual's account name. 5.In the Group Settings section, I click the options to specify who can see the members of this group and who can add or remove members. 6.In the Membership Requests section, I click the options (No, No) and no email address entered Here is the problem part: I am supposed to see  the "Give Group Permission to this Site section"  but I see only Create and Cancel buttons.   Can you please help why I do not see  "Give Group Permission to this Site section". Is there another way to assign group permission?

Creating a volume control slider/setting one template property based on another

So, what I want to do, is to make a volume control that looks like a right angle triangle with the 90 degree angle on the bottom right, and then when you click on it, the area to the left of the selected point is shown in a different color.  In other words, I've created a slider with the right background, what I can't do, is work out how to show the selected area by filling in the triangle.  I have worked out how to bind the height of my triangle on the left to the value of the control, but right now, the rate of rise is exactly half of what I need it to be.  I need to know how to change the template for the area to the left of the selection ( which is the repeat button ) so that the background is twice the height that it is right now.  No matter what size I make the slider, the area is always 1/2 the size it needs to be, so I am sure if I could get it to double inside my template, it would work fine. <ResourceDictionary xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"     xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml">       <Style x:Key="SliderButtonStyle" TargetType="{x:Type RepeatButton}">         <Setter Property="SnapsToDevicePixels" Value="true"/>         <

Creating a Resource Reservation Site - suggestions on how to accomplish

After some suggestions here for solutions. We upgraded from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010, and the RoomEquipmentReservations.wsp template stopped working. We knew it might happen - so no shock there. We need a way of allowing staff to view and reserve resources (such as ICT Rooms, Digital Cameras). I have tried using a group calendar, but this has two major issues: I can find no way of having all of the resources shown when the site is accessed, the user has to add them in. When you click a resource after adding them in, it thinks you want to book all of the resources shown. To summarise what we are trying to achieve: A calendar style list showing all resources and any bookings for those resources (gantt style?) The ability to have the user click a free slot on the calendar above and be asked to enter other information about the booking. Once a booking is made, the user who created it. Any suggestions on how best to make all of this happen? As an aside: anyone know if MS are going to be recreating the 40 application templates for SharePoint 2010? Thanks. Craig.
