Error 5120 when trying to attach to a database.

I am using Windows 7 and SQL Server Express 2008. I need to attach to a database on local drive. I have the .MDF and .LDF files.

When I try to attach to the file from SQL Server Express, I get this error:

What can I do to attach to this database and open it?

Our GIS group is working with SQL Server 2005 in conjunction with ESRI's ArcGIS software. SQL Server is being used as a test bed until we formally migrate our existing Microsoft Access mdb's over. So, at this time we are conducting various tests and have the freedom to "blow up" our databases.

We are currently testing ArcSDE Workgroup edition, which will only work with SQL Server Express (SSE). SSE will let us create spatial joins and relationships, while maintaining data integrity. So one possible workaround was to detach the database from SQL Server 2005 and then attach it to SSE. Unfortunately, we ran into a problem in re-attaching the database back to SQL Server 2005.

The exact steps are as follows:

  1. Back up database using back up tool in SQL Server 2005.
  2. Detached database from SQL Server 2005.
  3. Attached database to SQL Server Express (hereafter SSE).
  4. Created a table in database while it was attached to SSE.
  5. Detached database from SSE.
  6. Attempt to attach database to SQL Server 2005 failed
  7. Succe

unable to attach database, security setting?

Hi folks,

I am using VS 2010 Professional with SQL Server 2008 Developer.  I right click on the App_Data folder in solution explorer and add an existing item, then navigate to the correct database.  However, I receive a pop up that Access is Denied.  How do I fix this?

cannot attach database from server explorer

Hello all,

In Server Management Studio, I am attempting to attach a database.  After selecting the database in the wizard

I receive an error: This file is in use, Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program.

I don't have SSMS open, and have restarted the computer to make sure the memory is cleared.  Not sure what to try next.  Any ideas?

How to fix error in MVC movie database tutorial from Asp.net?

I followed the tutorial at http://www.asp.net/mvc/videos/creating-a-movie-database-application-in-15-minutes-with-aspnet-mvc At 12:04 in the video, the author,  Stephen Walther. inclues the line

            return View(_entities.MovieSet.ToList());
When I tried to compile this I get an error:
Error 1 'MovieApp.Controllers.MoviesDbEntities' does not contain a definition for 'MovieSet' and no extension method 'MovieSet' accepting a first argument of type 'MovieApp.Controllers.MoviesDbEntities' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) P:\experiment\MovieApp\MovieApp\Controllers\HomeController.cs 18 35 MovieApp

If I just enter return View(_entities. then Intellisense  offers Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, and TosString.

Does this suggest that _entities is not being i

Detach/Attach database question

I recently restored a database from SQL7 to SQL2005.  When restoring the database I needed to create a c:\data\data folder or else it would not restore the mdf and ldf files. I would like to move these files to a new location.  Copied the the two files to a new folder, C:\database.  Using the sql studio manager, preformed a task to detach the database, then attach the database with the new location. This seemed to work, I am able to access my application that uses this database.  However, any changes I make to the program, are not writing changes back to the mdf file.  When I open the program, these changes are still in place, but the mdf file should be updated, correct?  When the database files were stored in the c:\data\data folder, any little change I made to the program changed the modified time for the mdf file. Is there something missing or where could these changes be written to?

MDW Disk Usage for Database Report Error - A data source has not been supplied for the data source D

Hello, On the MDW Disk Usage Collection Set report, I get the following error when I click on a database hyperlink. A data source has not been supplied for the data source DS_TraceEvents SQL profiler shows the following SQL statements are executed (I've replaced the database name with databaseX) 1. exec sp_executesql N'SELECT dtb.name AS [Name] FROM master.sys.databases AS dtb WHERE (dtb.name=@_msparam_0)',N'@_msparam_0 nvarchar(4000)',@_msparam_0=N'databaseX' this returns zero rows as databaseX does not exist on my MDW central server, but is a database on a target server (i.e. one that is being monitored and uploaded into the MDW central server). 2. USE [datatbaseX] this produces the following error: Msg 911, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Database 'databaseX' does not exist. Make sure that the name is entered correctly. why is the report looking for the database on my server? thanks Jag Environment: MDW (Management Data Warehouse) on SQL 2008 R2

One of our SQL 2005 database started to give us "Database is in transition...Error 952". We were trying to Take the DB offline when this problem occurred. Restarting SQL service did not help us. We were unable to do anything with this database as we were unable to obtain any locks. What resolved the problem? Re-starting manamgement studio on client machine. Go Figure!
