using policy based management to exclude database access

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :Sql Server
After reading information on the link http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1492 I was wondering whether its possible to have a policy in place such that database A cannot make reference to objects in database_B, I am guessing that one would have a policy such that the contents of the objects must not be like %database_B.%   Let me know whether there is a better way to do this. Thanks.

Policy-Based Management and On Change - Prevent

I’m working on Policy-Based management feature and I’m keen to implement some of the features. I tried to setup a Policy for a “backup device” facet based on the condition that the name starts with bkd_. I tried to set the evaluation mode to “On Change – Prevent” but unfortunately I could not find the mode at all in the Policy Screen. I also made sure the “Nested Triggers” advanced Option is set to 1.

I went through this  link http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlpbm/archive/2009/04/13/policy-evaluation-modes.aspx and checked for the execution_mode in  msdb..sysp

How to create a condition and policy to deny access based on host name

With SQL Server 2008 Enterprise, can I prevent an Active Directory Account Login ( domain\user ) from connecting if its coming from a host_name?

What I really need to do is this:

On SQL1, login mydomain\user1 is only allowed to login from servers APP2, APP3, and APP4.

If mydomain\user1, though it has a login on SQL1 attempts to connection any other hostname besides APP2, APP3 or APP4 I want to deny it access to SQL1.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for the correct condition(s) for a policy that would work?

SQL Server 2008 R2 Enhancements to Policy-Based Management

I'm reasearching enhancements which have been made to Policy-Based Management in SQL Server 2008 R2.  I"ve found several articles and posts on PBM in general, but nothing that explicitly describes what enhancements have been implemented in SQL 2008 R2 which are not available in SQL 2008.  Does anyone know of any white papers or articles which discuss this?

Policy based management missing evaluation modes

For some reason, I only get the on demand and on schedule evaluation modes with my instance of SQL server, what is even more suprising is the fact that i am following a step by step guide and the guide seems to have the on change log only evaluation mode.

Is this a bug or something ?

I am using SQL 2008 SP1 developer edition, I get the same issue even on my standard edition.

Bug Tracker: Build a Configurable Web-Based Bug Management Tool Using ADO.NET, XML, and XSLT

One of the most significant features of ADO.NET is its integration with XML. Developers can either use an ADO-like API to access the data or work directly with an XML representation of the data. This article demonstrates how both of these techniques can be used together to create Web applications that take advantage of XML standards such as XSLT. The example presented here is a bug tracking application built using C# and the.NET Framework. The development of the application covers several topics including data access using ADO.NET, the presentation of data using XSLT stylesheets, and the integration of ADO.NET with the .NET XML Framework.

SQL and Outlook: Enable Database Access and Updates Through Exchange and Any E-mail Client

Using Microsoft technologies, you can insert, edit, query, and delete database entries using any e-mail client such as Hotmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or even WAP phone. While e-mail is certainly a powerful and widely used tool, it is usually not integrated with an application for performing any tasks other than sending reminders. The application scenario described here, an e-mail-based SQL update program, uses a simple data model; however, this solution will apply to any data model that you are working with. It will also eliminate the need for complex n-tier Internet applications and serves as a low maintenance solution for providing data access.

Upsize Your Database: Convert Your Microsoft Access Application to Take Advantage of SQL Server 7.0

What if you need to convert an existing Microsoft Access 97 database application into a true client-server application that is based on a SQL Server back end? If you know a little about Visual Basic and SQL Server, it's easy to make your app take advantage of the power and scalability provided by SQL Server 7.0. Using some concrete code examples, this article takes you step by step through converting the native Jet queries in your Access application into stored procedures and pass-through queries that SQL Server can use. You'll also learn how to pass on parameters when your client-server app calls these SQL Server stored procedures and queries.
