Here is the page directive for the page that throws the error:

@ Page language="c#" Inherits="University.AspNet.Index" CodeFile="Index.aspx.cs" %>

The code behind file Index.aspx.cs starts like this:

using University.Framework.UI;

namespace University.AspNet

public partial class Index : University.Framework.UI.HomePage

The code behind is extending this HomePage class, which is in turn an extenstion of another class University.Framework.UI.Page, which extends the System.Web.UI.Page class.

Code behind file controls not defined/recognized when using WSPbuilder in Visual Studio 08

I am in the process of adding my custom aspx pages to the LAYOUTS folder(a folder I created) in a WSPbuilder solution in VS08. The problem I am having is when I build the solution it fails because the controls(Load, Textboxes, dropdown lists,etc) in the code behind file for the custom aspx pages say they are not defined. They all have a blue squiggly line and I get over 100 errors. Does anyone know what to do to get the WSP to recognize the code behind pages. Is there a setting or something I am missing.

Can't access App_Code class in Code Behind file

I have a class defined in the App_Code subdirectory:

namespace WebApplication9_App_Code
  public class Class1

And I have a code behind class default.aspx.cs:

using System;
using System.Data;
using System.Configuration;
using System.Collections;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.Security;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls.WebParts;
using System.Web.UI.HtmlControls;

namespace WebApplication9
  public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
    protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
      WebApplication9_App_Code.Class1 cls1;

I get the following compilation error:

The type or namespace name 'WebApplication9_App_Code' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks very much for your help.

Go Global: Make the .NET World a Friendlier Place with the Many Faces of the CultureInfo Class

CultureInfo is a complex .NET class whose objects are used for resource loading, formatting, parsing, casing, sorting, and other conventions that change as the language, location, or writing system is changed. It can be tricky to use correctly in every situation. Here Michael Kaplan explains some common scenarios in which you will use CultureInfo and provides information about the behavior, best practices, and consequences of a wrong decision.

.NET Code Tuning: Make Your Apps Fly with the New Enterprise Performance Tool

Because the common language runtime (CLR) is a black box, it's pretty hard to divine what's going on when you want to track down performance problems. Microsoft will be delivering a brand new profiler, the Enterprise Performance Tool (EPT), as part of Visual Studio 2005 Team Developer Edition that's ideal for use on a production system because it offers some very lightweight means of collecting performance data. Here John Robbins takes you on a tour.

Debugging: DataTips, Visualizers and Viewers Make Debugging .NET Code a Breeze

There is a whole host of new goodies in upcoming release of Visual Studio 2005 that will enhance your debugging experience. One such improvement will make it easy to visualize types within the debugger. This article discusses those improvements and covers debugger attributes and type visualizers. In addition, the author shows you how to extend the display of your own types with custom attributes and how to plug in an assembly to visualize.NET types built into the framework.

Code Name WinFS: Revolutionary File Storage System Lets Users Search and Manage Files Based on Conte

One of the monumental problems organizations face today is aggregating information that's stored in disparate formats. Knowledge workers have long wanted to be able to search for content independent of format. The next version of the Windows operating system, code-named "Longhorn," boasts a new storage subsystem that makes that task easier. That subsystem, code-named "WinFS," allows the user to perform searches based on the metadata of the stored item, regardless of what type of file it is or which application created it. This article covers the basic architecture of WinFS and explains how to use the WinFS managed API.

How to make expanding/collapsing CollapsiblePanelExtender from code behind smooth and animated

I've got a CollapsiblePanelExtender in place on a panel in test and it works like a champ. (I get excited about the simplest things).  When I click the panel header it expands and collapses with smooth animation, as expected and desired.

But when I change its state via code behind, it seems I am merely changing its state and somehow bypassing the javascript that controls the smooth animation.

My markup is out of the box. I have added code behind and some javascript, but I am missing the connection.  Here is the javascript:

function pageLoad(sender, args)

function smoothAnimation()
    var collPanel = $find("CollapsiblePanelExtender1");
    collPanel._animation._fps = 45;
    collPanel._animation._duration = 0.50;

And here is the code behind:

protected void btnExpand_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    this.CollapsiblePanelExtender1.Collapsed = false;
    this.CollapsiblePanelExtender1.ClientState = "false";

protected void btnCollapse_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    this.CollapsiblePanelExtender1.Collapsed = true;

Extra file is included on the Page directive inherits =

I am trying to understand where the additional file name is coming from in my Page directives Inherits

attribute like so :

inherits ="Track_Milestones2, App_Web_techsrvcs_track_milestones2.aspx.cdcab7d2"

Is the result of this app being published on my local server at one time or could this

page have been compiled on a server ?

Thanks for your insights !

How do I find the file path from a namespace.class name?

I'm programatically looking ito a .aspx file and getting the file class name declared in its CodeBehind. For example, when analyzing myFile.aspx I read in its Page Directive and found its CodeBehind equals "myApplication\myPage.aspx.vb". Then I use the code below:

Dim Assm As System.Reflection.Assembly = System.Reflection.Assembly.LoadFrom("myApplication\bin\myApplication.dll")
Dim ClassType As Type = Assm.GetType("myApplication\myPage.aspx.vb")
' myBaseType = "myApplication.Forms.BasePage"
Dim myBaseType As System.Type = ClassType.BaseType

Now I want to read the BaseFile (class = myApplication.Forms.BasePage). However, to read in this file, I need I need to get its full path instead of its namespace.class hiearchy. In this case, the BasePage is wrapped in a different namespace declaration thus I cannot just change the '.' to '\' in order to get the path.

How can I get the path of BasePage so I can read it? Thank you - Frank

How to make "UserId" equal to the "logged-in user" in vb code behind

I need to insert a declaration in the codebehind function below that will make the variable "UserId" equal to the "logged-in user". In what way do I need to change the code below (elsewhere in the project, I successfully make reference to basically the same code and make the UserId equal to logged-in user by using this handler expression inside an image control: ImageUrl ='<%# Eval("UserId","Image.aspx?UserId={0}")%>'...But in the case below, the function is not fired by this expression, but rather by CustomValidator). Thanks very much.

Sub ValidateImage(ByVal source As Object, ByVal args As System.Web.UI.WebControls.ServerValidateEventArgs)

        If Request.QueryString("UserId") IsNot Nothing Then
            ' Get the connection string from Web.config.

            Using conn As New SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("MyDatabaseConnectionString").ToString())
                ' Create a command object.

How to change this code to allow more file uploads

I have a page currently setup to upload 1 image at a time, it uploaded the image, then creates a thumbnail for that image in the same directory. Client needs / wants to be able to upload a few more images at the same time. So i would like to see if i can use the existing code that works, but setup to upload a few more images and process them all to create the thumbnails. I currently have a page that allows them to upload 5 images at a time and that works fine, but its just simple uploading the images, nothing else is happening at that moment. Here is the code i am working with: protected void UploadBtn_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) { String pth = Server.MapPath("~/gallery/homebirth/images/"); String UploadedFile = MyFile.PostedFile.FileName; int ExtractPos = UploadedFile.LastIndexOf("/") + 1; //to retrieve only Filename from the complete path String UploadedFileName = UploadedFile.Substring(ExtractPos, UploadedFile.Length - ExtractPos); // Display information about posted file. Div is invisible by default FileName.InnerHtml = UploadedFileName; MyContentType.InnerHtml = MyFile.PostedFile.ContentType; ContentLength.InnerHtml = MyFile.PostedFile.ContentLength.ToString(); //div is made visible FileDetails.Visible = true; // Save up
