Essential SQL Server Date, Time and DateTime Functions

The essential date and time functions that every SQL Server database should have to ensure that you can easily manipulate dates and times without the need for any formatting considerations at all.

Date/Time Conversions Using SQL Server

There are many instances when dates and times don't show up at your doorstep in the format you'd like it to be, nor does the output of a query fit the needs of the people viewing it. One option is to format the data in the application itself. Another option is to use the built-in functions SQL Server provides to format the date string for you.

ISA Server 2004: Developing an Application Filter for Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration S

The beta version of Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 is now publicly available. It includes a rich SDK with several extensibility mechanisms that allow third parties to integrate their specialized solutions on top of the ISA platform. In this article, the author explores the application filter extensibility mechanism, which enables you to add high-level application layer filtering capabilities to ISA Server and to provide rich content filtering solutions. He also highlights the new features of the ISA Server 2004 SDK, then moves on to describe how to develop a basic application filter that monitors all data going through the ISA Server, and how to integrate a filter into the ISA Server management console to create a seamless interface experience for your users.

SQL Server: Build Apps that Provide Real-Time Information and Customized Content Using SQL Server No

The adoption of wireless devices continues to spread unabated, and organizations are looking for new ways to get in touch with customers through these new mobile devices. In the past, unsuccessful ideas such as push technology were used to send targeted information to customers. Now, SQL Server Notification Services uses the SQL Server 2000 database engine and the .NET Framework to promote a new breed of notification applications that will allow relevant, consensual communications to be sent to any subscriber device. Here the author provides an architectural overview of the core features that make up SQL Server Notification Services. Along the way he discusses how they can be used for pushing Web content.

Info on the Go: Wireless Internet Database Connectivity with ASP, XML, and SQL Server

Many handheld wireless devices such as cellular phones and PDAs already have the ability to access Web sites. So how do you build Web applications that tap this wireless audience? Although there are a number of limitations to wireless devices-such as screen size, navigation, and connection speed-you can use familiar Web development technologies to make your existing Web applications available to mobile users. This article outlines the services and equipment currently available to support wireless Web access. A sample wireless-accessible Web site that dynamically draws data from a SQL Server database back end in real time is created using tools such as ASP and XML.

Does SQL Server have to load and init statics every time a SQL/CLR managed proc is invoked?

We are working with SQL/CLR stored procedures, triggers etc and it seems that all assemblies we use are unloaded/loaded every time a proc or trigger or TVF is called. Is this true? Is there any way to retain data between invocations of procs? for example can I create some static struct or object that I can setup once and then just refer to after that, so that unless we terminate SQL server, the static data is always in memory? Thanks PS: This was originally posted here, but that forum seems to be rarely frequented.

WCF - First call to Callback instance from Server takes considerable time to make it to the client.

Hello. There's a performance problem we are facing that we are unable to fix using DuplexChannels. The first call made by the client to the server reaches the server instantly. The first call made by the server to the first client using a Callback proxy will take several seconds to reach the client. All subsequent calls to the client (as well as other clients) will reach and execute instantly. The client connects to the Server using a proxy to IServiceProvision, supplies an instance to an implementation of IClientCallback and calls IServiceProvision.Start(). The server instantly processes the call and makes an asynchronous call to IClientCallback.DoWork(), which takes several seconds to enter the client's DoWork() implementation. The remainder of the execution then runs smoothly. Also, the server will experience such a slowdown only for the very first call of the first client that connects to it. Is it normal for the Callback interface to take so much time to warmup, only on the first call to the first client? Below is the full source code. Thanks for any information you may provide. Cheers Mike Shared Class Library using System.ServiceModel; namespace Test { [ServiceContract(Namespace = "http://test/IService", CallbackContract = typeof(IClientCallback))] public interface IServiceProvision { [OperationContract] void Start(); [OperationContract] void

Server Time Dimensions - language mix

I'm making my first steps with SSAS and as part of my test project, I added a server based time dimension. During generation, I configured the langage to be German (Germany) (the machine and Visual Studio are set up in English). What is being generated is a mix between English and German though - the calendar year and quarters remain in English, and the months and day of week are in German. Shouldn't the whole hierarchy be in the language I chose? I'm using SQL Server 10.0.2531.

Time difference : Hosting Server and client

hi All,I have asp.net/c# web project. How to manage the time difference between the server and clientFor instance, I am at India, and Server is located at UK. So if do any activity, like "comment on friend's photo" etc. the time stamps is UK's time. So if do some activity from India at 10.00 AM, the time stamp would be 5.00 AM. So if the user who sees his activity at 10.00 AM sees it as if it was done at 5.00 AM.If user whom he acted upon (like friend whose photo got the comment) too see 5.00 AM. this is ok if the friend is at UK, but causes confusion if he was at other time location like Australiahow to handle this

Publish Sharepoint Foundation Server to Internet

Hi guys, first of all I don't want exactly to publish SPF server to Internet, but place it in DMZ and make available from Internet. So I won't have any dedicated web server, only one server with MSSQL and SPF on it. Is there any practices to make it more secure? So far I'm only came up with form authentication... Any ideas or links are highly appreciated!

Server Time out settings question

I’ve followed the instructions for the login time out but we are still getting time outs prompting login within less than the stated time (currently set to 30 minutes). I’ve evenn tried setting it to never time out, but still we have to re-login after about 20 minutes…. Do you know if there is a further setting somewhere that would over ride this one? Configuring login expire time for sharepoint site   You need to set the "security validation time-out":   Central Administration > Application Management > Web Application General Settings (be sure to do this for the correct web application)   Ensure that Security Validation is On and set the timeout to 20 min. (default 30 min).   ThanksSharepoint Customiser

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" from IE7 - ASP.NET Development Server Error?

Dear everybody, I've just installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 on Windows Vista Ultimate. I created "New Web Site" and Started Debugging the page to see the blank page rendered. To my surprise, IE 7.0 displayed an error message saying: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I spent some time investigating and here is the result: The page going to be rendered assumes port 49791: http://localhost:49791/WebSite3/Default.aspx The ASP.NET Development Server operates under different port no: 49793 After changing the url above manually to use the port of ASP.NET Development Server, the webpage gets renderred correctly: http://localhost:49793/WebSite3/Default.aspx ASP.NET Development Server uses dynamic ports. I noticed that Debugging process always assumes port number lower by 2 than the real port number of the ASP.NET DevSer. Therefore Debug process never runs and displays the page. I do not want to manually edit the local host URL after every page rebuild, so my question is following: How to make the "Start Debugging" function to use appropriate port of the ASP.NET Development server? How to make Visual Studio to open the page being debugged? To mention couple of things I tried: I reinstalled Visual Studio2008, tried to disabled IPv6 as some threads recommen
