ClickOnce deployment problems with Windows XP

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :WPF

Hi, I just deployed my WPF Desktop Application using clickonce. The application was made in a Window 7 pc and it worked ok in other Windows 7 pcs, but when I installed it in a fresh Windows XP SP3, the app works normally, but it doesn't appear in the Add/Remove Programs, leaving no easy way to uninstall it.   Hope someone could help me with this or point me to another thread if it has been already answered before.

Escape DLL Hell: Simplify App Deployment with ClickOnce and Registration-Free COM

DLL Hell that results from versioning conflicts is generally not a problem in .NET because components do not require registration, and are either totally isolated to an application or are managed in a well-defined side-by-side way with the help of the Global Assembly Cache. But if you're still using COM, wouldn't it be great if you could deploy your existing COM components using a model similar to the .NET Framework? In Windows XP, you can, and this article explains how.

Windows Forms applications solve many of the problems inherent in building Web applications the old fashioned way?with HTML. To demonstrate the use of Windows Forms over the Web, the author takes his existing app, Wahoo!, and ports it to Windows Forms. In doing so, he discusses versioning, linked files, security, storage isolation, the deployment model, and everything else you need to get started building your own Windows Forms apps for the Web.

ClickOnce problems with IIS/Win7 64bit due to ResponseHeader CR/LF

Hi, my ClickOnce application is running fine on XP/IIS6 and several other Window Versions. On Win7-64bit it does not work. The CR/LF-problem was solved in the application itself, but ClickOnce seems to have the same problem that we had.   Any idea? ClickOnce deployment fails if .NET Framework isn't installed

Hi,   I have noticed that installation of my application fails in some cases. If the user has .NET Framework installed the installation works. But if it's not installed then Click Once will install it, after asking the user to accept the EULA, installation will complete and the "Install"/"Don't install"-dialog appears. My application is downloaded and then fails with the error message:     Following errors were detected during this operation. * [2010-09-01 15:22:17] System.Deployment.Application.InvalidDeploymentException (ManifestLoad) - Exception occurred loading manifest from file Stoffi.exe: the manifest may not be valid or the file could not be opened. - Source: System.Deployment - Stack trace: at System.Deployment.Application.Manifest.AssemblyManifest.ManifestLoadExceptionHelper(Exception exception, String filePath) at System.Deployment.Application.Manifest.AssemblyManifest.LoadFromInternalManifestFile(String filePath) at System.Deployment.Application.Manifest.AssemblyManifest..ctor(String filePath) at System.Deployment.Application.DownloadManager.ProcessDownloadedFile(Object sender, DownloadEventArgs e) at System.Deployment.Application.FileDownloader.DownloadModifiedEventHandler.Invoke(Object sender, DownloadEventArgs e) at System.Deployment.Application.FileDownloader.OnModified() at System.Deployment.A

Windows 7 (64x), Visual Basic Xpress V10, Sql Server Xpress V8R2 -Deployment results in Attempt to a

Hi all, I'm at my wits trying to figure this out.  It's a new 64x computer running Windows 7.  I've installed Sql Server Express V8 R2. The connection string is user instance = true.  And the database is located in a directory off the main directory to which the connection string points to. The error I get when starting up my VB Express 10 app is "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file ‘C:\datadirectory\data.mdf’ failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located in UNC share. I've attached the database using sql server manager v10, and can see the data. Googling his error, there seems to be a lot of web-aps seeing this as well. I did have a problem after I installed sql server version 8 r2, just trying to create a database.  That was resolved by going through the IIS -configuration. If I can provide any other information, please let me know.  Cheers

.net framework 3.5 SP1 installation problems on Windows 7 x64

Hi everyone.  I'm having a big trouble installing .net framework 3.5 SP1 on my Windows 7 Professional (x64) OS.I've tried to install it but only thing it says is 'installation error' at the end of installation.  Strangely, it doesn't even give me an error code.I thought it could be having problem with previous versions of .net framework so I tried to varify this with the tool I've found on MSDN, and I only realized I couldn't verify any of .net framework product on my OS.  (neither of 2.0 3.0 or 3.5)This doesn't really make sense because I've freshly installed Windows 7 a week ago and not letting me install the program.  I've tried by doing web installation and tried to download the whole package and install it but still no luck.plus, i am not even sure if this varification program really works.. I wiped out 1.0 and 1.1 using cleanup tool and reinstalled 1.1, and it's still saying it is not installed.  And it even says i have 2.0 3.0 and 3.5 installed.......which i wasn't able to do..  any thoughts?[10/22/09,14:46:50] Beginning of new SetupVerifier activity logging session[10/22/09,14:46:50] Activity log file location: C:\Users\Jin\AppData\Local\Temp\setupverifier_main_10-22-09_14.46.50.txt[10/22/09,14:46:50] Error log file location: C:\Users\Jin\AppData\Local\Temp\setupverifier_errors_10-22-09_14.46.50.txt[10/22/09,14:46:50] Build created on October 19, 2009[10/22/

Problems with Windows Authentication

I have one webserver alone in the network and all the users authenticate in another server. I'm trying to implement windows authentication in a application in the webserver,  but every time that the page loads a login window appears exactly that the windows client was authenticated in the order server. Is It necessary both server stay in the same domain? Is there another way? Finally, I need to get the user id in the windows client, but webserver and domain server don't communicated between itself. Windows 7, SQL Server 2008 Express & VWD 2008 Express Setup Problems

Hi I have Windows 7 Home Premium, and Visual Web Developer Express 2008 (which came with SP1) installed. SQL Server 2008 Express never worked - Windows 7 won't allow the Management Studio to be installed and VWD was asking for SQL Server 2005.  Looking on the web, I found advice to try the 32 bit version of SQL Server instead.  This would work with VWD, apparently.  I referred to these instructions (http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/3/163A851B-D956-42E9-B426-F5C0EBE6B654/ReleaseNotes.htm) and used the latest links and instructions, but I could not install SQL Server at all - apparently something to do with WOW64... This has been going on for a WHILE and I'm going nuts.  I am reluctant to uninstall VWD and start again, because I had to manually fix a few things, and now it's working...  PLEASE can someone tell me of a working configuration, I have read SO MUCH advice on this, and none works, including those release notes (unless I missed something) :(

problems registering a 32 bit activeX dll and library file on a windows 7 OS (64 bit) using regsvr32

Hi have been getting this message box error when i try and register a dll and lib using regsver32.exe, is there an alternative way of registering dll's and lib's? i am using visual studio 08: the error say's something like the module "GrFingerX.dll" might not be compatible with the version of windows you are running, is "GrFingerX.dll" compatible with this version of regsvr32,exe. my system is windows 7 x64 (64 bit) does anyone know why am i getting this message. please help me so that i can get my program up and running. Thanks p.s i have heard that regsvr32.exe has to versions on a 64 bit system but how do i just get the necessary one to run and register the files, because when i try the following steps, start->and type in regsvr32.exe and then the dll name i get the error i stated earlier.

Deployment Problems with LINQ

If I am in the wrong place, I apologize up front.

I have a Windows appliction that uses Linq-To-SQL.  I am updating a set of tables that are related in the DBML through a FK.  On the development machine all this works fine, and it works regardless of whether I am using the development database or the production database.  When I deploy this application, I get an exception, "Specified Cast is not valid" in the Linq classes.  Since the application works on the development machine and works to any database instance, I don't think this is an issue with SQL server or the application (although I could be wrong about that).  It looks to me like this is some sort of deployment problem with the framework.

I am running .Net 3.5 SP1 on all the machines including the development machine, and I have verified that I am running the same version, (at least I think I am).  I am pretty much stumped as to why this is working on the development machines, but will not deploy to any environment.

I have this same issue with a web service application.  The web service runs fine on the local machine for development, but I can not publish it to any srver without getting this exception.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  If I need to post this s

Deployment of Windows Application

Hi Friends,

I have a windows application and i want to deploy it on the client side in such a way that i want to host the database on database server locally on the client side. And i want multiple users from multiple machines access the data through the application.

So my question is that should i keep the application and the database on the server together or should i install the application on separate computers and keep the database separate on the Database server.

Also, how can i allow the user to access this application in this scenario from the remote place say for example from another country.

Please give some suggestions on how to implement this.

Thanks ,

Syed

Important: Windows App deployment

Hi Friends,

I have to deploy a windows application on windows 7 home premium OS PC and i want this PC to act as a server or a database server where different PC's have an application installed on them and access the common database on the windows 7 PC through the application.

There are 2 scenarios that i have to implement

1. I can allow the user to work in a LAN and use the application from a maximum of 5-6 PC's .

2. I should also allow the users to work with the applicaion remotely from their laptops outside of the LAN. In this case, the application will be installed on the laptops but the database will be on the Windows 7 PC .

Thanks and please help me on how to implement this.
