Stuck during restore process, no error messages

Posted By:      Posted Date: September 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :SharePoint
I need to restore a solution (a webpart) from a Sharepoint 2010 backup to another Sharepoint 2010 installation on another server. In CA and exactly in the page _admin/BackupStatus.aspx I see that: A backup or restore is currently in progress. There are no current or recent backup or restore processes to show. If you recently started a backup or restore process, you may need to refresh this page after several minutes for it to appear. Hours have passed since I started the restore process In _admin/ServiceRunningJobs.aspx there is no backup/restore job running. The question is: What can I do to try again a restore if I cannot stop the restore that is "running"? Please Help.

Stuck with a SQL restore via Powershell error

If this is not the right forum, apologies. I've been tasked with setting up a test environment for an application currently in Production. It uses SQL as a backend and it currenlty has 240+ databases on its SQL cluster. We are ready to do a release update of the app, thus my task to create a test environment that currently mimics whats on production. My main issue right now is with the SQL backend. I have to backup all the 240+ databases in prod and restore them on a SQL server on the test environment. As part of the restore process I also have to change the path for the mdf and ldf files. I don't want to manually do this 240+ times. So I though of using Powershell for the task.

With the help of some google searches I've put together this script to handle the task:

# clear console
#load assemblies
[System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.SMO") | Out-Null
[System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended") | Out-Null
[Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo") | Out-Null

  The error not occurs frequently but sometimes it will happen, can someone tell me why the error occurs and how can I solve the problem?

Thank you very much.

Error in RESTORE in LOG FILE. Anyway to exclude it?

I'm trying to install a database (on a SQL Server 2008 machine) with test data sent by a partner company in the form of a .BAK file. (Version of SQL Server they are using unknown). I'm using this script: Use Master RESTORE DATABASE XEMS FROM DISK = 'C:\temp\xemstest6-29.bak' WITH REPLACE, MOVE 'XEMS' TO 'E:\XEMS DATABASE\XEMS.MDF', MOVE 'XEMS_Log' TO 'E:\XEMS DATABASE\XEMS_Log.LDF' The Restore process churns for a while, then I get: Processed 2576 pages for database 'XEMS', file 'XEMS' on file 1. Processed 5 pages for database 'XEMS', file 'XEMS_log' on file 1. Msg 3283, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 The file "XEMS_log" failed to initialize correctly. Examine the error logs for more details. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. At this point the database is unusable - trying to do anything with it produces an error indicating the database is still in a Restore state. There is some problem with the LOG portion of the backup, which I really don't need anyway. I'd like to just NOT restore the log. Came across this article which seemed to refer to the exact problem I'm having...  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/915385/en-us They offered this suggestion: "Use the WITH NO_LOG clause during the restore process." However - in checking the RESTORE syntax.... http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/libr

Returning custom error messages with an UserNamePasswordValidator

Ok, my head hurts from banging it against the wall. I'm new to WCF, I have searched for a solution for days, please help a desperate fellow programmer if you can :-( I have a WCF service hosted in IIS, I implemented a UserNamePasswordValidator, and it seems impossible to find a way to return a custom error message to the client when the user is not allowed in, this blows my mind. I have searched everywhere, many are asking the same question since 2006 and so far I haven't found an answer that works. If you are thinking of replying that it is not secure to return a custom error message to an unauthenticated client, please save yourself some time and don't do it. There are multiple enterprise business scenarios that this is required. Just in our organization an account could be locked out, in which case the user must be directed to the IT department to get it unlocked, it could be that the credentials are correct but the user hasn't paid their fees in which case they must be directed to the appropriate department, or it could even be that the user tried to access the service during a time of the day in which the service is not available. From searching around, I have tried doing the things below in the Validate method, however the client always receives a MessageSecurityException, which contains none of the custom messages that were originally thrown, neither in the object,

Execute Process task - On Error (i want to override the error message)

Hi, In my package I am calling one exe to copy the files from local folders to SFTP. I am using a execute process task and I am passing the parameters like (address, username, password,....). The exe and syntax are given below. SFTPCopier.exe <<machinename>> <<username>> <<password> <<local directory path>> The problem is when the exe is failing to copy the files to SFTP due to some reason, the SSIS package is outputting the entire command in the log information (including the username & password). I dont want to write the password in the log information. I want to remove that password from the log information when an error occured in the execute process task. Can some one please tell me the way to override the message? Can I put a on error handler for that execute process task and use a script task to modify the "ErrorDescription" variable? Will that works? Thanks in advance.

custom 401/login failure error messages

I have a req to display a custom error message when a user fails to log in 3 times.  The default behavior seem to be for a redirect to something like this http://server/_layouts/AccessDenied.aspx?loginasanotheruser=true&Source=http%3A%2F%2Fserver2k7%2FPages%2FDefault%2Easpx after the third login attempt.  The resulting page just comes up as blank...I'm guessing because it failed auth.  My initial thoughts were to create a custom error page, and redirect with an http module.  That solution (while it does redirect) puts me right back to the initial problem of just a blank page being displayed after the failed auth.  I've been struggling with this for a while now, ANY thoughts or advice would be greaty appreciated.  Is it even possible?

Best practice for user defined error messages in SQL Server 2005/2008 --Need help

My requirement is to setup a standard practice for our team in handling DB erros and also  user defined messages. We are handling exceptions using Raiseerror method with in Try and Catch blocks.  For user defined message, we are using Sp_addmessage to add our application specific error/warning messages with error codess>80000.  Ex: 80001 | Company name already exists. please check. Here is the sample code ********************************************************************* CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_CompanyProfile_insert]  -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here  (@company_name VARCHAR(50),  @company_code VARCHAR(3),  @user_id INT  ) AS BEGIN  -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from  -- interfering with SELECT statements.  SET NOCOUNT ON;  BEGIN TRY -- Begin Try Block      -- Validate company name   IF EXISTS (SELECT company_id FROM companyprofile WHERE company_name = @company_name)    RAISERROR(90021, 16, 1)      INSERT INTO companyprofile (company_name,       company_code,       createdby)   VALUES(@company_name,     @company_code,     @user_id)    END TRY  -- End Try Block &

Restoring 2008 Database with Filestream - Process cannot access file error

I'm trying to restore a copy of a database that has a filestream and am getting the error below. I've tried with move option to specify a new path and left it with default path, neither worked. Did a trace with procmon, didn't see anything. FileStream1 is a new folder that the restore process creates. I've deleted the folder, tried it with a new name, re-took the backup from the source machine, restarted SQL, rebooted the machine, drive permissions are open. I've run out of ideas on how to debug further. Looking up the error online wasn't much help either. Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operating system returned the error '32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)' while attempting 'OpenFile' on 'X:\Data\FileStream1\4ecb2e48-0eee-4c99-a3f0-f1e6c7f00b24\f2efe374-9481-4c1b-a7f2-dcdcee350807\0000001b-0000aaa6-00f6'. Import Error: Could not process the file Documents/Application Deployment.mht as a Single File Web P

Hi there everyone, Version: Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 with Cumulative Update June 29, 2010 applied. I am having issues importing an exported site into a different domain. I've overcome most of the issues and actually got most of the site to import, however, the import process get's stuck on import a Single File Web Page document from a document library. I believe the original cause of this error is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980079 The issue I face now is, I already have a large number of .mht files in my document library which I do need to import into the test environment (or that I might need to restore in a DR scenario). Does anyone have any information on either: forcing the import commmand to "on error resume next" (ie. not stop processing when it encounters an error) fixing the already corrupt .mht files in the database easily The error text from the import command is: Error: Could not process the file Documents/Application Deployment.mht as a Single File Web Page document. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequest.CreateOrUpdateFileAndItem(String bstrUrl, String bstrWebRelativeUrl, Guid& docId, Object varDoc, Int32 docLength, Int32 exists, String bstrCreatedBy, String bstrModifiedBy, Int32 iCreatedByID, Int32 iModifiedByID, Int32 iVersion, Object varTimeCreated, Object varTimeLastModified, Object varProperties, String checkInComment, Int3

Dear Gurus, I'd face a "STRANGE" problem. I'm using SQL2008 connect to Oracle Data Source (OracleOldDB.1) When I process a snow-flake dimension . There is a ORA-00942 problem. But if I past the SQL Statement to a Oracle Tool . It worked without any problem. Does any body ever face this "STRANGE" problem ? And I'd try to remove this table from data-source-view and re-join it . Still same problem !!  Wilson

Hello,Please bear with me as I am no Sql Server guru, but am getting this error that is preventing me from continuing with my development work.  I am the only developer on my team running Sql Server 2005 and it has been working just fine for the last week.  I opened the Management Studio this morning, just like every other morning and got this error:TITLE: Connect to Server------------------------------ Cannot connect to (local). ------------------------------ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) Of course the help page says no help is available.  I have googled myself sick and still have not found a way so resolve this...has anyone else had this error and/or a fix?  I am using XP Pro SP2...any help would be greatly appreciated!Thanks!Steph
