I took  backup of the content database using sql servr management studio tool. Can I restore this content DB to a test environment ( on sun Virtual box with 'windows 7' 64-bit host OS) and from test env't to new production system?  If my testing is done and ready to move to new production system then How can I add the data accumulated during testing period (one month) to new prod'n system from wss3.0 system. Cannot crawl sharepoint site and mysite after database attach upgrade form sharepoint 2007 to 2010.

After database attach upgrade site and mysite from sharepoint 2007 to 2010 , I have full crawl and get "The crawler could not communicate with the server. Check that the server is available and that the firewall access is configured correctly. If the repository was temporarily unavailable, an incremental crawl will fix this error. ( Error from SharePoint site: HttpStatusCode ServiceUnavailable The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable. )" for mysite and get "Access is denied. Verify that either the Default Content Access Account has access to this repository, or add a crawl rule to crawl this repository. If the repository being crawled is a SharePoint repository, verify that the account you are using has "Full Read" permissions on the SharePoint Web Application being crawled." for sharepoint site. The content access account for search is "db_owner" of both of site and mysite. How do I solved this problem ?

Monitoring and moving SharePoint foundation 2010 database on SBS 2008

I have successfully followed the white paper for upgrading SharePoint Services 3.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010. Other than an authentication link problem all went smoothly.

I do have two small problems. The Small Business Server console reports that SharePoint is not functioning (it is functioning as I can connect to the site), this is more a nussance as my daily reports are inaccurate and I hope if this is normal there is or will be a hotfix to repair the reporting. This also comes to the second more serious problem.

In upgrading the process moved the database from it's own drive back to the system drive. I should have payed more attention to the directories in the upgrade process. Live and learn. Since the reporting is wrong in the console the move database wizard also does not work. Knowing that SBS gets cranky when things aren't done with a wizard or in a super specific order, is there a proper way to move the database? I am beging to get the long list of warnings as the drive fills up.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

About database attach upgrade method

I'm planning an upgrade from MOSS 2007 to Sharepoint 2010 with database attach method and I would like to know what happens with links inside content pages and documents (words, excel, etc...) that points to the own site. Must we change the url host once we have finished to upgrade process in the new farm?. I suspect no, because I have meet some other experience attaching content database between MOSS 2007 farms and the host url has been updated (I don't know why) .

Where can I found information about it? Anyone has any related document?

Upgrade 2007-2010 Database Attach

Hi all,

Having read many of the articles abot upgrading 2007-2010, I wanted to see if a simple approach would work.

  1. Ran the pre-upgrade checker
  2. Simply detached the DB in SQL (SQL Manager only), forcing the connections to close
  3. Copied the DB to the new server
  4. Re-attached the original DB to the 2007 server
  5. Attached the copied DB to the 2010 box
  6. Ran the shell command to attach to a web application
  • All seems to work

The content databases in question are quite simple and test units, and we are moving from the staging server to production, is this a valid approach?

Also, before I try wih a 'real' db, is there any harm done in detaching/re-attaching on the original 2007 server?

Move SharePoint Foundation 2010 database from SQL 2008 R2 Express to SQL 2008 R2 Standard.

Currently, our Sharepoint Foundation 2010 's is installed in same server with SQL 2008 R2 express hosting the databases. We would like to move all the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 database to a new SQL 2008 R2 Standard Server. Can it be done?

In this technet document, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725.aspx, it stated "The new database server must be running the same version of Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server as the existing database server." Does it mean that I cannot move the database to  SQL 2008 R2 Standard Server?

cannot attach database from server explorer

Hello all,

In Server Management Studio, I am attempting to attach a database.  After selecting the database in the wizard

I receive an error: This file is in use, Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program.

I don't have SSMS open, and have restarted the computer to make sure the memory is cleared.  Not sure what to try next.  Any ideas?

How to upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 after mistanely de

I need a detailed instruction on how to upgrade From Upgrading from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0  (SBS 2003 ) to SharePoint Foundation 2010.

Background of the case:

I have all my databases (STS-database and STS_Config) saved but, I forgot to save my Virtual Site )Companyweb site) and I mistakenly re-installed IIS on the SBS 2003, hence  I lost the companyweb site. Is this an issue to migrate to Sharepoint foundation 2010. The Sharepoint foundation 2010 is running on a Microsoft HyperV Server 2008 R2
Also, I have created a Virtual 2003 SRV ENT with Sharepoint Services 3.0 running on it. I also have attached my Databases STS_Database and STS_Config)... how do I get it working like a regular website. I have modified the CNAME record to reflect the new server... http://companyweb - it take me to the new site but it loads a blank page. I did create a new CompanyWeb Virtual site on the VHD 2003 server.
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your prompt response. Nelson
