WCF Workflow Service Application - Required Extensions

Hello, I built a WCF Workflow Service App and I built a custom activity that requires an extension in the workflow. In a web app, I'm trying to create a service reference to the WCF workflow service but it says that an extension that is required has not been provided; so how do I consume a service with a required extension? At what point do I supply that extension in an ASP.NET scenario? Thanks. http://linkedin.com/in/brianmains

how do I host wpf browser application in IIS

I would like to host several WPF browser applications in IIS, and include these as iframe in one IIS .net webforms application. Would you please provide the procedures involved in the first step: creating a wpf application in visual studio 2010 for hosting in IIS 7. I understand I need an xbap, but how do I get an xbap from the browser application project? I'm not seeing this in the folder after build. Also would you please confirm whether it is possible to run multiple xbap iis websites (using bindings possibly?), and present these though regular webforms website in multiple iframe?

Set execute permissions for web site at web host

Hi all,    I have just succeeded doing a Publish to server from my local sql db and run the sql script on my web host's sql server 2005 db. (I'm very proud! :-)   )   Now, I get the dreaded The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'MyStoredproc', database 'db12345', schema 'dbo'. error. I can't set the permissions from within Visual Studio, can I? What should I ask the web host to do? a) Should I ask them to globally set execute permission on ...? b) Should I ask them to set execute permissions to ... for only INSERT/DELETE/UPDATE stored procedures? c) Should I ask them nothing, and handle this myself? If so, then how? And, the question remains, should I set execute permissions globally or on a per stored proc basis? And what's the name of the user who needs the property set correctly? The reason why I ask these questionsis that I used to work with winfomrs at a university. There people should have different permissions depending on what group of users they belonged to. In this instace I have no idea!   Muchos gracias in advance, Pettrer, Sweden

User does not have required permissions to view Report Manager on SQL 2008 r2

Hi all, We are installing SQL Server 2008 r2 onto a server, and this installation includes Reporting Services. SSRS works, I can deploy reports, use Report Manager, Report Builder, etc., all using my admin privs. The problem is when NON-ADMIN users connect to \\server\reports.  They get the following error: User 'DOMAIN\user' does not have required permissions.  Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed. This error is resolved by giving the DOMAIN\user account local admin privs on the server. Granting admin privs is not a solution.  We have accountants and other non-technical people that will use Report Manager and Report Builder.  We can't just give every person admin privs on the production SQL server. I have done a lot of research on the web... I see a results involving earlier versions of SQL Server and Report Manager, but this is 2008 r2 - different webserver, etc. How can I resolve this issue?

Problem with Host an external application in WPF

I wanna host an external application,for example "Notepad.exe" in WPF?I use HwndHost to do so:

            Process notePadProc = new Process();
            notePadProc.StartInfo.FileName = @"notepad.exe";

            hwndHost = Win32Native.FindWindow("NotePad", null);

            uint oldStyle = Win32Native.GetWindowLong(hwndHost, Win32Native.GWL_STYLE);
            Win32Native.SetWindowLong(hwndHost, Win32Native.GWL_STYLE, oldStyle | Win32Native.WS_CHILD);

            Win32Native.SetParent(hwndHost, hwndParent.Handle);

            return new HandleRef(this, hwndHost);

        protected override void DestroyWindowCore(HandleRef hwnd)

            HandleRef handleRef = new HandleRef(this, hwndHost);

            Win32Native.SendMessage(handleRef, Win32Native.WM_CLOSE, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero);

I am running vista home + sql express 2008 + reporting services.  I installed everything using window authetication.

Everything was working fine.  However, now when I try to go to RS http://bvp-pc/Reports_SQLEXPRESS/Pages/Folder.aspx I get an error:

Can someone point me in the right direction to fix this?  thanks

Required Permissions for SQL Server 2005 DB and Impersonation

I have an Intranet ASP.NET WebForm application that uses Integrated Windows authenication and Impersonation (required becuase triggers are used to create audit logs) to connect to a SQL Server 2005 DB on the same box (no double hop issues). Normal users get their DB permissions via the <Domain\Domain Users AD group, which has a SQL Server login and a user created for the DB.  Everything works fine when I explictly grant the associated DB user CONTROL permissions on the DB.

However, after doing more research on the actual permissions granted via CONTROL, this seems to be way too much access.  The best decription of the CONTROL permission I found was at http://www.mssqltips.com/tip.asp?tip=1718, which states, "This grants the equivalent to ownership over the database. The db_owner fixed database role has this permission implicitly."  However, every other DB permission combination I've tried without granting CONTROL always fails to connect to the DB.  Impersonation is working, the correct accessing Domain/User is referenced in the error message.  The approriate User in the DB is in the db_datareader and db_datawriter roles and when I explictly grant them every single permission on the DB except CONTROl they fail with a "

expense claim application - how to set up item level permissions on expense claim document set

Hi All,

I want to create an app that replaces the existing paper-form based expenses reimbursement process with a SharePoint solution.

I have created a content type called an Expense Form Set ( it includes an excel sheet for the user to enter expenses and also includes any digitised receipts associated with the claim )

The claimant can create an expense form set in an Expense claims document library and the Expense Claims Approver is notified, they approve or reject and reimburse if necessary.

however there is a stumbling block.

How do we prevent anyone else other than the person who submitted the claim and the person who needs to approve/reject from seeing the expense claim.

Is turning on content approval the only way to do this.

If so then the act of approving the content will make it visible to anyone else who has view or contribute access to the library.

thanks and regards,

Creating a "my site" - permissions required

I had a problem whereby users connecting to my SharePoint site (user is authenticated with their domain account) couldn't access their 'My Site' or 'My Profile' - Access Denied errors kept occuring. It is a pretty standard installation of SharePoint, and the User Profile Service Application is fully configured and all authenticated users have permission to create a personal site. However, I found that all users (other than me as admin) could not access their personal site or profile.

After much searching about this, I found a solution was to grant all authenticated users access to "My Site" (http://server/my) site. Is this the correct thing to do? I was assuming it work by default and nothing I read suggested I had to do this. Only administrator and system account seemed to have rights the 'my' site by default.

Permissions required for "Copy..." function in "Manage Content and Structure"

Hi! I have a question...

I have created a custom permission role i sharepoint, lets call it "Creator". What List ans Site permission are needed to be able to use the "Copy..." function in sites and subsites in "Manage Content and Structure" tool in Sharepoint?

According to my tests the roles "Approve" as well as the "Manage Permissions" is required to be able to "Copy..". Why is this? Doesn't seem to have anything to do with each other.

Thank you for any hints and tips regarding this!!

Best Practices for elevating permissions in a Win Forms Application

Here is the situation.  I am working to create a windows forms application which allows various help desk personnel to view active directory and powercampus (a sql db) data for users.  The program must also be able to reset users passwords.  It will be installed on multiple desktop machines on our network.

This requires a certain level of permissions which we do not want to give to the Active Directory accounts of the personnel who will use it.

My working solution in this case is to create an Active Directory account for the application, give that account the necessary permissions and then have the application impersonate this account when it needs elevated permissions.  I'm using advapi32.dll-LogonUser.  The username and password for the account are hard coded into the program.

My question is, how do i do this better?  Is there some other way to give the application elevated permissions without giving those permissions to the users.  Is there a better way to impersonate an active directory account.  Last, i know that hard coding the username and password is not very secure.  I would prefer to encrypt the information somehow, but then the program must have the key to decrypt, which is only 1 step removed from what i have now.  how can i safely and simply encrypt the account password?

What are the required Security permissions to call SAM accountmanagement over the wire, using System

I need to perform remote management on the local SAM database.  I am getting a security permission error, but can't figure out what the required permissions need to be.  My test harness works great as a locally authenticated user however the permission issue gets thrown when I am trying to connect to a remote host that isn't part of the domain.

The exception is getting thrown on the call to ValidateCredentials, which is found in the constructor for the LocalAccount class below, specifically you will see it  public LocalAccount(string Server, string User, string Password)

My test environment includes windows 7 machines that are working in a offline mode trying to connect to machines running XP, 2003 and Windows 7 that are not part of the domain.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Weird application behavior -- Action required to trigger service response otherwise the application

I am a WCF beginner and is trying out with a basic host service with callbacks to the client.

My code works wonders if my client app is a console.exe but when I transferred the code to a Windows Form app, the application will freeze.  But if I right click on the form window task bar, the code suddenly goes through and it would work...

Is there anything wrong with this?

The service is hosted on IIS

Unable to Authorize Launch Permissions for missing "Microsoft Excel Application" in DCOM Config

I would like to develop Excel charts programatically using VB .NET and the Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library (http://www.beansoftware.com/asp.net-tutorials/generating-excel-reports.aspx).  To accomplish this, I need to authorize the aspnet user on my machine launch permissions on "Microsoft Excel Application" DCOM (http://blog.crowe.co.nz/archive/2006/03/02/589.aspx).  I tried using dcomcnfg.exe to do this, however, I cannot find the "Microsoft Excel Application" DCOM under DCOM Config.

I am developing on a Windows XP (work machine) using Office Excel 2003

Why is the ""Microsoft Excel Application" missing in DCOM Config? More importantly, how can I give aspnet launch privileges to if Microsoft Excel Application DCOM is missing in DCOM Config?

Permissions for DirectoryEntry.Invoke("Recycle") on Application Pool

I'm trying to write code so that certain website users (not Windows users!) [editorial staff] can recycle the application pool of the current site.  I've gotten through finding the name of the current site's application pool and even how to recycle it, but I cannot seem to get the proper permissions.  Below is some hack code:

Protected Sub cmdRecycleAppPool_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdRecycleAppPool.Click
      Dim strPoolName As String = Request.ServerVariables("INSTANCE_META_PATH").ToString.Trim

      Dim strVirtDirPath As String = AppDomain.CurrentDomain.FriendlyName
      strVirtDirPath = strVirtDirPath.Substring(4)
      Dim intIndex As Integer = strVirtDirPath.Length + 1
      intIndex = strVirtDirPath.LastIndexOf("-", intIndex - 1, intIndex - 1)
      intIndex = strVirtDirPath.LastIndexOf("-", intIndex - 1, intIndex - 1)

      strVirtDirPath = "IIS://localhost/" & strVirtDirPath.Remove(intIndex)

      Dim objDirEntry As New DirectoryEntry(strVirtDirPath)

      strPoolName = objDirEntry.Properties("AppPoolId").Value.ToString

      strPoolName = "IIS://localhost/W3SVC/AppPools/" & strPoolName
      objDirEntry = New DirectoryEntry(strPoolName)

Permissions issue when deploying a VB.NET application

I have developed an app in VS 2010 and deployed it on a Windows 2003 server.  Now I'm attempting to deploy it on a Win 2008 R2 server.

I am getting the following error message:

	Below is a summary of the errors, details of these errors are listed later in the log.

	* Activation of \\Asiapp1\applications\OnlineClaimsImageProcessing\OnlineClaimsImageProcessing.application resulted in exception. Following failure messages were detected:

		+ Configuration system failed to initialize

		+ An error occurred loading a configuration file: Access to the path 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config' is denied. (C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config)

		+ Access to the path 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Config\machine.config' is denied.

This is a VB.Net Console app, NOT an ASP.Net web app.

What account(s) must have what permissions on the above-referenced machine.config file for this to work?
