Allowing external access to a MOSS 2007 site?

I know this has been asked a million times but...Allowing external access to a MOSS 2007 site

I just can't figure it out, here is what I have done so far;

  •  Extended the web application the I want to access externally on port 39397
  •  NTLM Authentication
  • Allow Anon = No
  • Use SSL = No (Ideally I will want to use SSL but just trying to get it to work first)
  • URL = http://<servername>:39397
  • Zone = Internet (I really do not understand what these zones do, I have tried extranet and Internet)

Then I have gone to Alternate Access mappings and;

  • set the Public URL for the Internet zone to be http://<FQDN>:39397
  • created DNS record internally for <FQDN> to point to <server> for testing purposes

So internally this works and I can navigate the site but on my firewall I have set up NAT for port 39397 to point to <server> but the page never loads...What am I missing?

uploading a photo into my site

I am working on my company's intranet which runs on sharepoint. Right now, very few people have uploaded their pics into their MYSITE. I know this can be done by logging in into the SSP, but I need a HR representative to upload the photo and they should not have access to the SharePoint server.

Are there any free web parts that I can install, that will give the HR rep to upload the photo..and then..it will automatically appear in the staff's MYSITE

Share Point integrated SSRS reports rendering when access from external site

Our client has a SharePoint (moss2007) site on Windows 2008, SQL2008 R2 Enterprise, and Reporting service is integrated with SharePoint

The authentication on the share point integration is set to windows, else the authentication for the SSAS datasource gives and error

The extranet zone ( forms) and intranet (Customer Forms) and default (Windows) zones are all access from inside the firewall and the reports render in each with no issues, as the datasources are configured to pass a sql username and password.

However, report rendering is a problem from the internet (external site), the following error is displayed:

An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is avai

How to create a single entry page for site collections in MOSS 2007

I have  7 site collections containing a few hundred team collaboration sites. Some users are internal (intranet) but most are external (extranet). Extranet users are experiencing problems with losing links to their sites and forgetting which URLs to use. So I would like to create a single entry page that all users can enter after the logon process, which shows a list of sites they have permission to access, and other user-specific information. Perhaps relevant documents, tasks, recently modified documents etc.

I know this sounds like a 'My Site' but we want to use use a general welcome page instead. We use Windows authentication.
What is the best way of doing this and is it something that can be done in SharePoing Designer or does it need to be done in Visual Studio?

Many thanks in advance.

MOSS Site with Basic Authentication and variations does not work on one node

Hi, We have one MOSS Farm with two nodes, on this we have several sites. For one specific site we have Basic Authentication and variations enabled in it, on one node site works fine. When we browse it pops-up for credentials and once credentials are provided it works fine and properly redirect to source variation home page. But on the other node when we browse the site it pops-up asking for credentials then after providing correct credentials it again asks for credentials twice and then it throws the following error : Access denied.   You do not have permission to perform this action or access this resource. And if we directly put the source site homepage url it throws following error: 401 UNAUTHORIZED We have checked the Alternate Access Mappings for the site and it is perfectly fine, if i enable windows authentication on the defected node the site works fine. This issue is just like pain in the neck still no resolution, please help us to resolve this issue. Regards, Jasjeet Singh

Custom Site Column in MOSS 2007

Hello, We have a request to add List in a List, for example, one of the column in the list should contain a table...so, created a custom column "Column with HTML Table" from the list of publishing fields...but, somehow, I dont seem to find that site column any more... That column type is "Publishing HTML", and it allows to define HTML table. I am unable to add a screenshot here...so, any clues? Also, can we copy the custom site column as a template and move it to another Site Collection? Regards, Kishore.  Kishore

How to schedule activity loaded from external source inside NativeActivity

I have a NativeActivity that takes an InArgument<int> that is the primary key of some table that contains a piece of xaml. When the activity runs, it loads the xaml from the database and uses ActivityXamlServices to turn the xaml into an activity. Then I try to schedule the activity using NativeActivityContext.ScheduleActivity. This fails with the message: The provided activity was not part of this workflow definition when its metadata was being processed.  The problematic activity named 'Sequence' was provided by the activity named 'RunWorkflowFromStore'. This makes sense because I never added the activity I'm trying to run to the metadata. However, when can I do that? It is only at runtime that I know the value of the primary for the xaml I'm trying to load. Or am I doing this the wrong way? Here is my code: public sealed class RunWorkflowFromStore : NativeActivity<ApprovalState> { private Activity _activity; public InArgument<int> WorkflowId { get; set; } protected override void CacheMetadata(NativeActivityMetadata metadata) { var workflowIdArgument = new RuntimeArgument("WorkflowId", typeof(int), ArgumentDirection.In); metadata.Bind(WorkflowId, workflowIdArgument); metadata.AddArgument(workflowIdArgument); } protected override void Execute(NativeActivityContext context) { // Load activity

SSRS 2005 external images won't display - images on DIFFERENT file server

Hi, Been having trouble getting external images to display in reports rendered on SSRS 2005. Images are displayed as a red X. However, my scenario is different from some of the examples I have read about. - The images are stored on a file server that is DIFFERENT from the box on which the Report Service is running. For various business reasons I cannot copy the images locally to the Report Service box. I am using "file://fileserver/path/to/image.jpg" to retrieve the images. - Since the file server does not have IIS installed, I cannot access the images using the URL method (http:// access). I need to use the file:// method. Currently I am prototyping this setup on my test box, which is running XP Pro and IIS 5.1. The Report Service is installed on this same box. I am currently testing this through the Report Manager web site (http://servername/Reports). The images are displayed using the Image control, which I added to the report using the visual report designer in Visual Studio 2005. It is set up with source=External and with "file://fileserver/path/to/image.jpg" path values. File names are retrieved from our database and file paths are built dynamically using a data processing extension I have written. My best guess as to why this is happening is that the ASPNET service account on my test box does not have access to the particular share on the file serve

Authentication for External Users to Access MOSS 2007 Resources

Our MOSS 2007 supports users from two domains that authenticate using windows.  Our clients WindowsXP in domain#1 and WindowsVista in domain#2 (which has presented problems authenticating to MOSS 2007.  I would like to give access to external users outside of those two domains.  However, our management does not want to establish trusts between domains.  What would be the best practice to accomplish this?  Additionally, will MOSS 2010 or Forefront resolve these issues?
