PHP 5.3 and IIS 7 - beware of MySQL issues with IPv6

Posted By: James Crowley     Posted Date: September 06, 2010    Points: 0   Category :ASP.Net

I'll keep this short and sweet as it's covered in depth elsewhere. After installing PHP 5.3 suddenly my website stopped working - but instead of throwing errors, it simply sat there and eventually timed out (with no error). Turns out there are issues with both PHP and MySQL around IPv6. The most common solution is "turn off IPv6 support" - not a reassuring answer. On the PHP front, the issue seems to be around fsockopen which works fine in 5.3.0 but not in 5.3.2. The major issue for most people though is that the MySQL driver doesn't properly support IPv6 if you're using a hostname (such as localhost) to connect instead of an IP address, particularly when localhost resolves to "::1". I'm not sure what changed in PHP 5.3.2 to bring this to the surface, but the solution is either to switch to using an IP address, for which there are other good reasons to do so, or modify your hosts file (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc) and change the line the starts with "::1 localhost" to "#::1 localhost". Hope this helps someone!

Individual field - MySQL

Hi

I was wondering how to recieve an individual field from my MySQL database.

I have been able to get a row, but what I am trying to do is get a name from my database and set it into the HeaderText in my DataGrid.

The way I am trying to do it at the moment is

using (OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(formQuery, con))
            {
                con.Open();
                formDataGrid.Columns[0].HeaderText = cmd.ExecuteReader(
                    CommandBehavior.CloseConnection |
                    CommandBehavior.SingleResult).GetValue(0);
            }

This doesn't seem to get a value from the GetValue, but if use

using (OdbcCommand cmd = new OdbcCommand(formQuery, con))
            {
                con.Open();
                formDataGrid.DataSource = cmd.ExecuteReader(
                    CommandBehavior.CloseConnection |
                    CommandBehavior.SingleResult);
                formDataGrid.DataBind();
            }

it will bind my data into the grid.

I just want to be able to change the HeaderText in the first coulmn of the DataGrid from one table and have the DataGrid be filled from another table.

I can fill the DataGrid its just changing the HeaderText that I am having trouble with.

Any help?

Regex pattern for validating IPv6

Can anyone can make a regular expression pattern for validating IPv6 (not IPv4)?

Ipv6 has many formats and aliases. I tried making the pattern but written in a lot of codes (i'm not sure my code below will be 100% accepting valid formats and 100% declines invalid formats).

Versioning Issues With Optional Arguments

One nice new feature introduced in C# 4 is support for named and optional arguments . While these two features are often discussed together, they really are orthogonal concepts. Let's look at a quick example of these two concepts at work. Suppose we have a class with one method having the following signature. // v1 public static void Redirect( string url, string protocol = "http" ); This hypothetical library contains a single method that takes in two parameters, a required string url and an optional string protocol . The following shows the six possible ways this method can be called. HttpHelpers.Redirect( "http://haacked.com/" ); HttpHelpers.Redirect(url: "http://haacked.com/" ); HttpHelpers.Redirect( "http...(read more)

Issues with Visual Studio 2010 editor

hi all,

I am having a weird problem with VS 2010. I am using the premium edition.

It seems that none of the asp controls <asp:..> tag are recognized by the editor. I keep getting a green underline under each control name. To check this, I have created a brand new web site targeting .NET framework 4.0 and even in the auto-generated pages, none of the asp controls is recognized. I am also unable to see the properties of any control if I click inside the tag (at an attribute). All I get is the ID of the button and the tag <HTML ELEMENT>! Furthermore, when I drop an ASP control from the toolbox, the attribute "ID" is not generated. Only when I switch to the design view that I can get to see the properties of the control and the ID is set automatically. The message for the green underline says: Element 'Button' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web Site, or the web.config file is missing.

Does anyone know what is going on?

Thanks,

Talal
